Character

Name:
Erwin [er-vin] (Schmidt) Schwarz

Age:
32

Race:
Human

Sex:
Male

Appearance:

[art by me]

Homeland:
Kingdom of Renalta

History:
Kristof Schmidt was once an honorable man. He was a member of the Templars, the Kingdom of Rheinfeld's elite military. At the beginning of his career, Kristof was a stubborn young man learning the blacksmith trade. The Faith was all he believed he needed, until he began to question as he grew older. He rarely ventured outside of Rheinfeld except for border patrols, and was completely unaware of the outside world. How could he put trust into the Papacy if he could not see what the creator sculpted?

It was the middle of the night. He and his superior were to guard a soul shard until the following evening. Kristof asked the other Templar about the shard. The man said nothing other than “it’s to be destroyed.”

Kristof’s question of his Faith made him curious as to why the shard would be destroyed. And, for a moment, he felt that the object would enlighten him about the truth of creation. He killed his superior and took the key to the chest holding the shard. He removed the ax, the word Bedauern shadowed within its neck. Kristof removed his superior’s uniform and weapons, took both of their supplies and loaded his horse.

He ventured to cross the border in the mountains. He eventually met with merchants, and sold the uniforms and weapons. The only weapon he kept with him was Bedauern. Weeks later, Kristof found a small settlement across the Rheinfeld border. He became the apprentice for the master smith of the settlement, and refined his knowledge of the trade. Meanwhile, he met the daughter of a carpenter by the name of Hollyn Schwarz. Eventually, the two married and had a son: Erwin (Schmidt) Schwarz.

Erwin and his father had to take on his mother's maiden name to prevent the Templars from finding Kristof. At this point in time, Kristof Schwarz was the owner of his own shop and forge. His customer base was fair in number, spanning across various settlements, allowing for a reasonable business. As Erwin grew, his father taught him more about the trade..as well as how to wield a weapon. His father was never strong in marksmanship, but melee combat was his strong point. Hollyn's brother, James, is the man who taught Erwin how to throw axes and use a bow.

Erwin had a good childhood. His parents were loving, and so was his mother's side of the family. Not meeting his father's side never bothered Erwin much at all. However, Kristof never told him why he fled Rheinfeld. His father also did not tell him who was looking for him, nor that he was once a Templar.

When Erwin was the age of 19, one year after becoming a man, the Templars found Kristof by chance. A former Templar comrade of Kristof's saw Kristof, James and Erwin out hunting for game along the border. He alerted his patrol group, and as the sun fell the Templars surrounded the camp the three men had made for the night. James and Erwin were tied to a tree and were forced to watch as the Templars demanded to know where the shard was. After about an hour of them repeatedly asking and Kristof refusing to answer, they put a sack over his head then flung him atop a horse. James and Erwin were helpless and watched the group ride off with Kristof. After this incident, Erwin had to take over his father's business to support his mother, Hollyn. 13 years later, Erwin's mother died of illness. This came after his time served in Renalta's military as a smith. It was a few days after both his mother's burial and his service ending that he was asked to join the Queen's Blades.

Motivation:
To learn what happened to Kristof.

--Attachement - There is a strong connection between Bedauern and her master. If Bedauern is used as a throwing weapon, she can fly back to Erwin handle-first.

Personal

Romance: Doesnt matter to me so as long as I'm not writing anything pornographic (kissing is green light, it's not awkward to write). Keeping the romance option leaves room for more plot development anyways.

Play style: I enjoy action, but also careful planning. So as long as it's a challenging task, I'll have no issues.

Does the Kouri Plushie exist?: Yes?

Right. I should be computer bound again in about 2 hours. I can make some key changes to Jellial that make him more lore friendly.

I'll hopefully be able to discuss them with Tempest now, despite phone based limitations.

Edit: @Tempest, I was amongst the crew of Brovo's mech RP, just as GM shut down. I was under a different tag though.

@HEISENBERG

Some notes on your character. Largely, there is a mountain terrain between Rheinfeld and what is now Renalta today. I'm not sure what Brovo has in mind, but the Templar were largely involved in crusades or matters in their own lands. I do not personally believe a large effort would be made to send Templar across mountains to find a deserter as there have been deserters numerous before. From what I understand, they were not actively sought out, but that is not to say if they were stumbled upon in their wider travels, the Templar would not execute one who abandoned them. I do believe the standard procedure for any who 'betrayed the order' in the past was outright execution without a trial.

In the time that your character's father was abducted, Renalta would not even be a fledgling kingdom. Any authorities dealt with during that time would likely be local governance of say... Perhaps a small city-state region at best, simply a town or small farming community at worst. The Kingdom was, at the time, long-since destroyed and it was not until literally 10 years ago that the gods were banished and the Kingdom of Renalta began to be reestablished at Kouri's hands.

As far as the father of your character being imprisoned, while it does have a margin of possibility, it seems largely unlikely to me. Again, Brovo will need to be discussed with on this to compare against current lore. But, if he were still in captivity, I likely see him in the hands of the Papacy. Even with the Templar Order having some internal friction, I would not see the current leader leaving any but true criminals and madmen being kept imprisoned. He, himself, was a man who deserted the Order at one time.

Notes when discussing with Brovo
No. The Templar would not attempt to cross the mountains in large numbers to hunt a renegade.
Maybe a small group, but no way would they send a significant force.
And even then, he'd have to be suspected of some pretty heinous crimes to warrant sending a group of Templar after him.
Templar who betrayed the order were dealt with in numerous manners. Dependent again mainly on severity.
Besides Renaltans dislike Rheinfelders anyway. They'd go out of their way to help a refugee.
Especially if that refugee knew how to fight.
The father would only be imprisoned by the Papacy at this point unless he committed a serious atrocity.

Basically, needing to know just what your father was involved in to warrant such an actions against him and some work to fit in with the currently established lore.

OH! Also, Heisenberg. What may be a major note for you, you have no magical endurance. This can in fact effect your soulshard ability. Magical Endurance also determines your ability with magical items and so forth. So, ya know, at least 1 point is advised.

Name: Draza Zorya
Age: 37
Race: Sprite
Sex: Female
Appearance: Standing at a whopping one and (just under) a half feet tall, Draza is petite in most senses, but not all. She’s got a big heart, and a little plumpness from all the party cake she enjoys with others. Her face is freckled and her blue eyes shine with a preternatural joy. She almost has a visible aura of joy and compassion, and her posture when talking to big people screams of spunk. Her hair is blond, and usually braided in an almost formal manner, due to years serving as a courtier and then as nearly a full diplomat in her own right making it a habit by now.

She’s usually dressed in very utilitarian dresses, arranging a party involves movement, and she doesn’t want to be too restricted in her movements. But when she’s not set to work in the kitchen or hanging streamers or arranging flowers, her other set of dresses are more elegant, with light and flowing floral designs. Usually she has a purse book of recipes hanging on a strap either over her shoulder, or around her waist, with one of her many lutes always on hand. While dressed more utilitarian, she has a backpack that keeps a variety of long lasting treats. Just because she has to go on long treks, doesn’t mean she can’t still make sure those around her eat well and are merry.

Homeland: The Rheinfeld Republic (nerts to that kingdom!)
History: You know, some would say that the world is a dark, or even dreary place. Not Draza! In her eyes, the world is getting better every day.

When she was but a young sprite, she was taught the ways of Lada, the beautiful goddess of youth, merriment, and festivities. She grew up in a simple peasant village, that her family was new to migrate into for a few generations back from some of the lesser incorporated regions of the Kingdom. She was a bit picked on for her stature by the other kids, as they would grow taller than her, and here life gave her an opportunity to be glum. She refused it, knowing that the best way to win people was not with revenge, but by being their friend.

Working hard at school and in the fields, she realized she couldn’t do the great tasks of strength needed to help, but there was something she could do that was a blessing for others regardless. She could sing, she could dance. She picked up a lute, and would sing, dance, and play, brightening the days of those around her, and they worked harder, they worked longer, and it was less of a chore. At school she began to make friends, and began to be invited to most parties for her merrymaking.

But that was not all that she would do, when others were troubled, she’d approach them, and listen to their problems, learning about them and their confidence, and she’d tailor entire events to make them feel better. She knew she couldn’t make everyone happy immediately, and sometimes her joyous intrusions had to wait due to tact. It was interesting learning when to be a solace, and when to be a surprise, and learning how to bake so many cakes and pies and desserts like you’d never know!

As her skills grew with age, she began to work as the head baker of her home, Inerinich. She began to serve those who lived there and was the go to girl for festivities, and her connections to brewers and farmers made sure that her parties were always home-grown affairs. One day, a travelling band of crusaders made their rest at her home, and she treated them all nicely and made sure they were rested and made happy! So grateful for her efforts, they invited her to go with them on their journeys, as their personal aid and chef. Very much so flattered, she accepted when it was mentioned that if she travelled with them, she could also help those that they visited.

Her ability to make quick friends was indispensable during her travels, as she always wanted to make sure the best was brought to bear for her get-togethers. She began to learn a little bit of mundane medicine skills at this time as well, helping treat the wounds to the best of her ability. She was almost the mascot for the group. When it came that they were assigned on the frontlines in their battles against dangerous mages, she met this very special person, so she heard. They were Erasmus, a mighty anti-mage templar! She did her best to make them know that they were appreciated for their good work at keeping people safe and healthy and alive when she learned of their birthday and threw a surprise party for them.

After their stint on the frontlines, the group was assigned to be transferred to a new station, and before they could even arrive there, new orders came through. The entire group was being split up, some going to new chapters and others getting an honourable discharge. Draza and the others were dearly heartbroken. She did her best to hold their colours high when they went to a place she couldn’t believe she had the honour of seeing in person, the capital, Heiligen Stuhl! It was for their last time together, and there were many tearful goodbyes to be had, as they were given their new orders, and ceremonies were held for the older members who were to retire. She arranged things for a final party for them all. Little did she know how much attention her festival would catch.

After the specially wondrous party she helped put into motion for the clergy and visiting dignitaries, and a farewell to her templar group, she was given an offer, to become under the employ of the government there! So it came that she was courtier among the Papacy, a helper with planning of parties and festivities for foreign parties, to make them feel happy, and more at home, so renowned were her skills at merriment, both the orchestrating, and the execution. She’d have been a travelling minstrel if she could, share the joy, but she felt that it was more important to help the nation appease dignitaries. The smile on the face of a child was priceless, but the smile on the face of a noble child could mean a lucrative trade agreement that puts smiles on many families as they have more to eat, and more to get toys and the like!

But everything changed when the gods were banished. Oddly enough, due to the particulars of her faith, she didn’t see this as a bad thing, and knew it was in the best interests of mortals, for the brother in law to her patron goddess had decreed it as such so long ago! But when the Papacy began to lose the right to rule, and things began to get heavy, she felt she needed to take a leave of absence, as the Papacy was becoming more isolated from the people they were supposed to be helping as their sovereign. Making her escape due to a network of favours, she arrived back home to her family, and her old village home.

Things were changing so fast now, and she would first use all her skills at peace and love to make everyone in just her village be good and happy, but various others began to talk of a republic, for the good of all! Needless to say, she was immediately smitten by the idea, and went off to go and help this movement, fully joining the ranks of the Rheinfeld Republic! She was able to easily convince her homeland to join under their banner as well, and despite the chaos she was able to make quite the living trying to mitigate the issues of a poorly united leadership, or the sometimes lack of one.

During her early years with the Republic, one she was part of since near its birth, she worked at making sure people who wanted to join or move into the republic had an easier time moving in. There were many families, but one of them while in transit seemed a bit special to her, they were those who behaved a bit structured, reminiscent of her days with the templars and they had with them a young girl, aged 11, and soon to be 12. Seeing as they would still be within her region for that birthday, she wanted to give a dollop of sunshine to the girl. She approached her father about a surprise party, but he rejected it. Instead, she decided she’d do the best she could, and with a few favours, she got a special birthday cupcake baked up and delivered to her for her to wake up with. She doesn’t know if the little girl ever got to see it, or if her father got to it first, but she likes to think she got it and was happy before she moved on to other parts of the Republic.

Continuing her work, she became more and more important to trying to keep things from falling apart, dealing with dignitaries who dared to brazenly grace the Republic instead of the Papacy… and it was around this time when things got a bit messy. The revolutionary nature of the republic meant that it sometimes had to do unsavoury things, and it had to work with criminals, people that she never really thought about working with before! Assassins, thugs, smugglers, and the like. But this was really no problem for Draza, she could make friends with anyone if she tried hard enough, and she could make the criminal underworld love her too if she wanted! She just needed to know what type of cake to bake…

As time went on, she began to forge all sorts of pleasant agreements with the newly needed branch of activities of the republic! Where others may keep ties through force of will and coin and fear, she did it strictly through pleasantries, parties, and fun. Even the most cold hearted assassin could open up to her after she found out what meal his mother used to make for him before she tragically passed, and she replicate it for him. The joyous tears and comforting hugs reminded her that deep down, everyone’s still a person, and everyone still loves hugs.

Her services were invaluable to the Rheinfeld Republic, but she made it clear, if she could do more good for everyone, she would have to go. Her loyalties were to everyone, not just family, criminals, and countrymen! So when it came pass that the Kingdom of Renalta came to her of all people, asking her to join their cause, be part of the Queen’s Blades, to help save the whole entire world? How on earth could she say no? It was sad to say goodbye to her mother and father again, and the weight of responsibility hung over her. She would do her best, or she would die trying.

Armed with a lute, a recipe book, her finest dresses, and a cheeky little smile, she heads off to save the world. She can’t wait to see if her new friends like parties as much as she does.

Fortune ever smiles on her, as she befriended a ‘somewhat gentle giant’ of an ogre, Gahrul. Those she traveled with wanted to do him harm, but she knew she could speak with him, and befriend him. He was not a beast, he was a person. And so it came to pass that they did bond, forming a friendship that, really, is going to keep her safe if things get as bad as her pessimistic companions think they’ll get for her. They’re such Debbie Downers.

Motivation: To make the world a better place. To see a smile on everyone’s face.

Experience Traits
--Untouchable Reputation; If there’s one thing Draza has going for her, it’s her reputation and charm. She’s genuinely nice and caring, and if it would do the most good, would totally give away all her possessions to help others! It’d take a powerful liar to paint her as nefarious.
--Cultural Mastermind; From her days as a courtier, and party planner for the diplomats, Draza has learned a bit more about foreign cultures, and how to make them all smile. She’s an equal opportunity life improver!

Conditions
--Unbreakable Faith; One of the more benevolent, but minor goddesses, is her patron. Lada’s married to a more important (and a bit dickish) solar god, but is still the one that she holds to her heart, despite the whole banishment thing. It’s not like she was interacting much anyway, her family’s way was non-interference… even though they were awful at following that rule. Strangely, this banishment plays into her religion, it’s something that the forge and king god would really like having been done. Not that she can ask him, or Lada, now.
--Powerful Connection; She’s been a merrymaker diplomatic aid for most of her adult life now, a hit with parties and fun of most if not all types. Of course she’s probably pulled the heartstrings of someone big and important in the past! But who…? Up to you, GMs!
--Underworld Contracts; How’s work going for you Ezio? Yeah, assassination gig’s a bit hard, but you know you’re always welcome with me and my family if things go sour! Long live the revolution, and may the banished gods pass on some favour to the people for a change!

Unique
--Soothing Aura; There’s just something about Draza, that makes it very difficult to be angry when near her. Aggression and malicious intent simmer down to being bothered, or more prankish than destructive. It’s hard to get riled up around her, but definitely not impossible. Short fuses are just made a hell of a lot longer, and people just assume a bit better about motivations; less likely to be offended as well. Keep calm, and carry on.

Romance: Romance is fine, just remember she’s like tiny. You did read her description, right?
Play style:
-Do you prefer action-oriented missions, or more dialogue heavy ones? Given the nature of the character, dialog is better. That said, action dialog works too. Like going with some others to go try to convince others to come help those directly in the battle? Nifty stuff.
-Do you prefer a more linear progression or having choices? Choices are nice!
-Complex missions, or straightforward ones? Uh, leaning towards complex? Like some thought required, but not convoluted and requiring me to keep a codex of the mission on hand if I miss a day or two.
-UPDATE So because of the Gahrul thing, I’d like to note that more action would be nice for the dynamic. One will be thinking for the other, but I don’t want either to be really out of place given their cooperation!
Does the Kouri Plushie exist?: So, taking a page from those who have sheets in, I’m assuming it’s a reference to an older LoR thing, and so… sure. They say yes, so yes!

I mean, Elendra.

Quick checklist of things Draza brings to the group
-Joy; Probably, in her mind at least, her most important talent, Draza brings joy and calm where she goes! Great for morale and diplomacy.
-Cooking; Both of meals and of sweets, Draza can cook on and off the field, using what’s around to make dishes for those around her.
-Medicine; Granted, no where near the degree that healing magic can provide, she does know some field medicine from her time with the templars. Enough to keep someone together until a serious doctor or healing mage can take over.
-Connections; From the aristocracy, and to the underworld, there are few places that Draza can go and not end up making friends. There are many people willing to do favours for her.
-Diplomacy; From her time as a courtesan merrymaker, to a full diplomat in her own right, Draza is remarkably capable at heading important meetings. It’s all that party planning skills, it’s very hard to safely throw a surprise party for an assassin.
-Teamwork; She spent at least a year working alongside crusaders and templars, traveling from place to place. She understands a bit about what makes a fighting unit functional, and while she is begrudged to be the militant leader herself, she knows how to keep morale up, and support the true leader well.
-A Big Friend; Not necessarily an asset of her own (he’s a friend, not a tool), she does come ready with her very own Gahrul! You know, in case you needed something smashed very thoroughly.
