It's possible. KoL's inspiration for this RP is based on numerous visual novels and a particular video game series. So it is possible.

How does summoning/ dismissing a Spirit work? Can a Spirit dismiss themselves from the plane of existence back to whence they came?

This may or may not make me choose between having Tia throw Mary via Boulder travel, or just strolling through the plaza as attention-grabby as possible

I think a Spirit needs the assistance of their Song Knight to be summoned/dismissed at all times.
