While it would help with the current situation I don't think it's a good enough long term solution. With sep leaving that takes out captain America and hulk, then facepunch is still MIA. We're losing a lot of important characters with no one really stepping in to either keep the numbers up or bring in anything new.

I'm going to again just suggest rebooting this thing from scratch and putting a tighter restriction on how many characters someone can have. It just felt like this was all too ambitious and destined to crash like this with people up and leaving causing stories to grind to a halt.

Sorry again. Just busyness levels through the roof, I felt it unfair for me to keep dragging you all along.

As an idea based on drews maybe plarrs need to have so much of a solo arc done before they can team up, and collab it all out and post in segments (like we did for the Thor/Ms.America/Hulk scene in season one) so that when it is done it can all be posted and if players go awol nothing wilk have been posted in the IC so you can continue as normal.

I am torn on this. Although part of me really wants to just keep sailing full steam ahead because I want some closure to the story arcs that I have been building up to over the past two years, at the same time, I can see the attribution that is happening. We were unlucky that most of the newcomers to Season 2 did not stick around and even some of our regulars that I could usually count on were beginning to thin out. If I were to make a reboot, I would make the two following changes, at least.

1) Getting a second character will remain the same, but I will only give out a third character to people who I think can handle it.

2) This is more of a quality of life change, but I, as the GM, will be posting character sheets into the Character tab so that I can ask the mods to delete posts of unused characters.

I would like to here all your thoughts.

I can agree with the first one wholeheartedly, when it comes to the second I think that is actually a good idea... one I shall steal in the future.

But yeah, I also think if we do restart this a suggestion should be not taking the same characters as before. I say suggestion because I would love to give Fantastic Four another go, but I wouldn't mind giving up Iron Man and Thor to someone else. Of course I would also like Spider-Man because YOU CAN'T HOG HIM FOREVER DEDONUS!

Should apologize though that I haven't gotten an America post up as I've been extremely busy working all summer since i'm going to uni sometime this upcoming month! Should be back to a regular schedule soon!

Personally I'm happy with both of those ideas if we do decide to go ahead with a reboot. Also agree with the idea that Sep suggested in that we shouldn't collaborate until after finishing a solo arc, as well as the collabing format he suggested!

@Dedonus I can agree with those two things, and I like the idea @Sep mentioned where you can't collab with anybody till after your introductory arc.

However I think for the RP to keep building up and moving forward after intro arcs there needs to be a common subplot to tie everything together sooner than later. Don't build towards the formation of an Avengers team for two seasons and then never actually do anything as Avengers because a two hour scene takes three months to finish in-game between 3-5 players. The obvious choice would be something like Skrulls, with X-characters it could be anything involving an anti-mutant organization, etc. Something's gotta tie everything together though.

As for @DrewVonAwesome's suggestion, I think everybody still in this using a new crop of characters could be interesting. Maybe instead f leading the way with Spidey, Ded could take Ironman and do like Marvel's doing with him in expanded media...

While I do think that something should be done about people stalling arcs by disappearing, I don't know if this the solution. Waiting to post an arc until you have finished the entire collab means you probably are not posting regularly. I think that having regular posts in the IC motivates others to post (and the inverse is true for the opposite). I think the better option would be to make a rough plan on hwo you want the arc to go between the posters involved and, if someone disappears for a week or so without prior communication, the other players can just puppet their character.

But yeah, I also think if we do restart this a suggestion should be not taking the same characters as before. I say suggestion because I would love to give Fantastic Four another go, but I wouldn't mind giving up Iron Man and Thor to someone else. So, the truth comes out. ;)

I believe there were plans for the Avengers. They just were plagued by that prolonged/delayed story arc in Season 1 along with players (such as Angel Vicky) disappearing. Again, I think having a plan about the story arc should help prevent these issues, along with giving players options of control AWL characters so that you guys could continue on. And if something like the Captain America arc this season happens again, I think it would be totally fine if Drew could just opt out of the arc and continue onto a new story arc.

Another issue that we need to solve is getting some new blood into this (or the reboot, if we go down that road). If we cannot secure some new players in an interest check for the reboot, then we are probably better of just sticking it out here and allowing players 'stuck' in collabs to move on. Unless we acquire some more players, I don't think a reboot will solve anything because we will eventually get back to the same point where we are today (minus the few modifications to the rules that will help prevent collaboration purgatory). So, here are three things that I thought of that might help get more blood into the game.

1) Rebrand: Over the last year or so, I have been throwing recruitment interest threads that have been meager at best in gathering new players. I think the only one that was really sucessful was the one that I recruited most of you from. So, would trying to "rebrand" (i.e. name-change) the game help out with recruitment?

2) Switch over to High-Casual: Do you all think it would be worthwhile to start the reboot (again, if that is the road we choose) to place the thread in the casual forum in order to maximize potential players?

3) I think this third option is the least effective out of the three, but I wanted to ask it anyways. These types of games (Create-A-Hero RPG, All-Star Marvel, Ultimate DC, One Universe/Maximum Comics) were all born on the SuperHeroHype forums. Today, that section is all but dead beyond the occasional attempt to try to recreate one of the above threads. When there are two games (especially when they are roughly the same) are being run on both RPG and SuperHeroHype, it kind of splits the potential players in half. While I know that many of the players that dwell in that subforum are also members here, do you all think it is worthwhile to make a mention over there just so that we can make sure the audience is not split over two games on two forums?

Lastly, we better make a decision about rebooting or not because the Create-A-Hero RPG is about ready to begin Season 2.

1) Rebrand

2) Switch over to High-Casual

Yeah I think a mixture of these two ideas may be best. Especially switching to High-Casual if we only go with one.
Especially since my posts can be quite short sometimes...

Like the idea of a more overarching plot too, as could give players something to tie on to if they struggle slightly with personal arcs.

Completely up for a reboot! Probably go with someone other than America if we do. Although i do agree that we would need more players to get on board if we did reboot. While we initially gained a few players for season 2 here, we've ultimately resulted in returning to the original people from before :P Hence why I believe moving to High-Casual (in the casual threads) would be best!

@Natty: Heck, I don't even think changing subforum would really affect the expected post quality. It would just get rid of the "scary" word "Advanced" that so many High-Casuals are so afraid of.

There was one other thing I wanted to say, but I cannot quite remember it.

Edit: Now I remember. I in no way see this game as a failure. Considering that is has lasted for almost 2 years (it will/would hit that in December) and how I believe it was the second or third largest roleplay in Advanced behind only Create-A-Hero RPG (which will be going on 3 years around the same time), I feel it was quite successful. And the reason I believe it did so well (as well as why Create-A-Hero is also doing well) is that it has a core group of dedicated players that keeps the game running. In this day and age, people's attention span has grown smaller and smaller. I just want to thank everyone one of you for being dedicated players. You all are why I consider this game successful, even if we need a reboot.

I entirely agree with this!! This RP is one the most gripping (no actually, its THE most gripping) group RP I've been in in quite some time. A lot of group RP's die before they even take off which is why I primarily go for 1x1's they tend to have higher commitment rates. This RP has great standards in terms of the length, quality and style of the posts produced and the story is great too.

Sorry, just saw this response ^^" Yes, that sounds good to me. The more characters a player has, the bigger the void when they disappear (plus, if their three characters are all occupied with other people's characters, it could cause a backlog waiting for them to do 1 huge super-post with all three characters, or a trio of individual posts spaced out over time). Waiting till someone is able to show their ability to juggle and keep up with 2 characters, then possibly 3 sounds good to me! I also like the idea of deleting unused chars so that the CS tab isn't clogged up with characters that aren't being used (in case someone else wants to come along and play them etc.)

I knew you meant Maximum/One Universe, but what do you mean? Since there is already a "Maximum Comics" roleplay in progress, I would consider it highly disrespectful to @Gowi and all those involved to just make another Marvel/DC comics roleplay. If you mean something other than doing a Marvel/DC one universe roleplay, then I would request you explain yourself.

Also, another thing that I thought up was that maybe we should go with a "sliding timeline" approach that the comics do instead having definite dates. Instead of the IC of the roleplay taking place in 2012 or whatever, we can just fudge the details a little so that we don't (read I don't) have to pull our hair over how old people are compared to others and when certain events took place.

While a "New Frontier" roleplay that gives more creative leeway might be intriguing (and Drew might get his wish about getting a shot at Spider-Man, although MJ is MINE bwahahaha!), I still think it infringes on their player base (even if we do go High-Casual). I mean, if @Gowi comes in here and says he's fine with it and if everyone want would want that, then I might consider it. However, I really don't like splitting up the player base for the games. That is one easy way to kill the roleplay.

@Dedonus well in my defense I didn't see Maximum when I gave that suggestion, it's two months old and was probably opened when I left.

Also guess who actually has enough time to RP.

This guy, for reasons I won't bore you with. But with all this talk I'm gonna hold off the Cap'ness.

@Sep: Don't worry about not knowing. I was just explaining my reasoning.

When I get back home from class, I'll see if @Gowi is on Discorn if he has not replied to this thread.

Also, I would like to hear form everyone else. Would you all prefer we change things up and do an One Universe game or stay with a pure-Marvel roleplay? The One Universe idea is not set in stone until I hear back from Gowi, but I would like to hear opinions.
