I still vote for something different away from being just another modern retelling. It doesn't give me any incentive to do my character ideas here rather than in Maximum alternatively where I can develop them there in the same kind of scope. I know I'm not a Hype player like Byrd or Morden or Andy but after three or four years I am not going to spread myself thin across RP's that are basically the same thing. The hook has to be pretty good, the game has to be inclusive and dynamic, and it needs to have the right player energy with it. Also, I know for a fact switching over to casual won't change the player energy as every sandbox worth it's spit dies in there quite quickly; so basically the idea of shifting over is a bad one in my opinion. Unless you guys like character's being in purgatory and all that or being hung up far more than one arc.

Alright, after thinking about this and sleeping on it, this is what I have decided.

We will be sticking with a modern setting. Although selecting an "period piece" as the setting could bring something new to the table, I think that a modern setting is more accessible to players. People might not be as familiar with that period or if they have some familiarity, it is probably stereotypes of said era. We're looking for something that is accessible to more people, not more niche than we already are.

On the Casual vs. Advanced forum point, if people are concerned about the Casual forum and what they do to sandbox games, then we can try Advanced one more time. However, if we cannot get some more people to bite, then we either will have to go to casual or just move on to different things. Nevertheless, I think we should be proud of what we have done here in All-Star Marvel. Unlike most other threads like this (just look through the Advanced forum), this probably is one of the longest lasting games of its type since GuildFall happened (Create-A-Hero is one that has us beat). With that said, I still think we can make this work.

Now, for the background, this is what I have decided on for what we should start with (again, we can change them as we see fit before the roleplay begins).

1) The appearance of superheroes should be like the graph of f(x) = ex. Should be small early on but it quickly skyrockets in the modern age.

2) Mutants have finally received equal rights under the law. However, there is still concern in both mutant and human camps. Regular people are still worried about how mutant powers might be used irresponsibly, while mutants, although technically protected under the law, fear that the safeguards that the laws give them are not enough to fend off the anti-mutant bigots.

3) S.H.I.E.L.D. was created as a secret spy organization at the beginning of the Cold War to ensure that the Soviet Union not somehow get an upper hand in technology, including the ability to create superhumans. Although the general public is not aware of their activities (or existence), the superheroes and villains of this world would be more acquainted with them because of S.H.E.I.L.D.'s interest in them.

4) On that faithful day, the world's mightiest heroes joined forces when several villains concocted a plan to break out of S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. Once they had subdued these escaped convicts, this team became known as the Avengers.

I am going to wait a little before posting the interest check so that it gives the Guild Mods to clean up the bot spam so that the interest check can get at least some time on the front page.

Works with me.

I recognise this idea ^_^

this team became known as the Avengers.

This is a good idea, while forming the Avengers IC is a worthy notion, and you know all the work I put into it and Avenger Arcs I feel that having them start IC works so much better, as it also allows those that want to be on the team to be part of the team right from the get go (albeit a newer team that is working out the kinks). You probably may want to limit the size of the (initial) Avengers team however, so that if say we get 15 players 12 of them don't end up on the initial roster.

There is only so many catalysis events for the Avengers to form. The other option that we could do is a "What if Batman was right about Supes in BvS" (I am talking about the type of situation, not the actual characters). It is basically what we had planned for this game: Hyperion would first appear like a hero (kind of light the Regent in the recent Amazing Spider-Man comics) but would then turn on us. Then the Avengers would have to form to stop him because no man (or woman) could stop him alone. The only different would be that he would be independent from SHIELD.

Already ahead of you on this one. ;) I would also recommend not to do a training scene.

I always liked the idea of it somehow relating to an outside threat, that way peoples eyes got opened like "Woah what's going ooooon?!" But then again Skrulls, Kang and all the other major invasions are probably wanted to be done IC. What about, as a nice twist as no-one took on the Sentry in the past rendition (or shown interest) the Sentry became one of the most prominent heroes (Man of Steel-esque) a beacon to regular folk before Void comes around, it'd be a nice story that would need heroes to band together (some of them forming a team) and can even end on the Death of Sentry. Maybe S.H.I.E.L.D even covers up that Sentry and Void were the same person and he gets a massive statue built in his honour as he died fighting Void? Maybe people know and are slightly more distrustful of heroes now.

Who knows.

#ideas.

Thinking I’ll be doing covert 1960s stuff with Madeline Joyce or somehow have her still around in some capacity in SHIELD; maybe her super-soldier serum gave her decelerated aging on top of everything. Might draw some influence from Her-Oes and some other ideas.

My other central idea is Moon Knight as a well-tested noir hero who has worked in New York’s underground since the 1980s. So he’d be well into his fifties at this point in his life. Just an idea, I’ve never read a Moon Knight comic so it’d be a “fresh” interpretation.

I could also try to import my White Tiger stories into modern capacity here— for those with me in Maximum Comics II you’re well aware what that entails. Revenge, Street Level grit, and mystical bullshit. All in a days work.

These are just my immediate three ideas and any thoughts would be dandy.

@Dedonus Okay.

I am actually very sorry I just one day left. I guess I sort of started to forget of this because of so many other roleplays I was in. But if you want to do this, I'm perfectly fine with it.

I may actually even join the reboot.

Oooooooo don't tempt me with the other half bro... DON'T TEMPT ME.

As for my plans, I'm not set in stone since frankly I've got a few different ideas for Spidey I'm going through including revamping Spider-Gwen while keeping Peter around for other possibilities. There's also trying again with Fantastic Four but I don't know with that, I'd have to think of other options too just in case.

@DrewVonAwesome I'd go back to the Human Torch but I'd really wanna make him go solo or join the Avengers. Surely four people can share an origin and NOT be tied to the one group exclusively. I'd also insist on dropping his 4 suit and going with the modern look...

I think breaking up the dynamic of the Fantastic Four in general is a poor choice. Yes, they can have solo bouts and series but breaking them apart is just a bad decision overall. The Fantastic Four is tied together for a damn good reason.

Three of them are related, so they'll always be tied together. One shouldn't ONLY be defined by their family though. Or limited to only being on the one team.

X-Men go solo all the time, making the four split up is about the only thing they haven't done in the comics till now and that's just cause half of them are dead or in limbo. The Invisible Woman working for SHIELD was an incredible idea that was wasted when she was written off with Reed. The Thing in the GotG was a nice change. And it was about time the actual human Torch joined the Avengers and not just the machine again. I just think there's more potential when you split them up and move some characters around. If you've read one or two F4 stories there's a good chance you know how every other story played out afterwards.

The only thing the F4 really did was introduce other characters like the Inhumans, the Skrulls, the Kree, Black Panther, etc. Aside from the Hickman run before the FF title the comics had been dropping in sales and the team didn't seem to matter in the grande scheme that is Marvel. To me it seemed like fans stopped caring around the same time Marvel did.
