Name: Robert James Carr
Nickname: RJ, Rob, Robby
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Appearance:
RJ is 6’3” and appropriately muscular, not so that he looks passionately athletic, in a way that shows strength and a healthy state of being. He has thick, dark brown hair which curls and typically is let alone to do whatever it pleases. RJ pulls it back into a small bun at the back of his head whenever he deems necessary, whether it curled strangely or has gotten in his face one too many times recently. When a bun still won’t cut it, RJ wears one of his many hats, beanies, newsboy caps, baseball caps, etc.
RJ’s eyes are round and innocent looking. The faint bags under his eyes show off his past of forced maturity. He has central heterochromia, meaning that he has two colors in each eye. Radiating from the center is a golden brown which weaves into the pale green that occupies the majority of his pupil. Because of this, RJ’s eyes seem to glow golden when the sunlight hits them. RJ wears thick rimmed square glasses most of the time
He has a strong jaw line which is more often than not covered in a thin layer of thick stubble. His facial hair grows from just below his cheek bones to the top of his neck. If he thought it was becoming for a young man to grow a grandfatherly-type full beard, RJ would most definitely do so. He hates shaving because of his extreme tendency to develop razor burn and end up cutting himself. He only shaves for interviews and other events where he would likely be addressed as “Robert.”
Ethnicity: Caucasian (Scottish and Scandinavian)
Usual attire:
RJ often opts for comfort over fashion. He is rarely seen without a hoodie, a sweater, or a long sleeved t-shirt. He does not wear much jewelry aside from the gold and diamond cross necklace that belonged to his mother and the small beaded bracelet that his younger siblings gave him as a going away present. RJ wears mostly blue jeans but is not adverse to different colors or fabrics. He is, however, extremely adverse to skinny jeans. RJ has not met a pair of slacks that he has liked either. Shoes are something that RJ has a lot of though. He proudly owns 8 pairs of Converse, 4 pairs of dress shoes, 4 pairs of boat shoes, 2 pairs of Nike sneakers, one pair of combat boots, and one pair of classic Timberland boots. RJ always carries a worn looking leather messenger bag which he has affectionately named ‘Rags.’ It holds his laptop, camera, notebooks, a sketchbook, and a few pens amongst other miscellaneous knick-knacks.
Relations:
RJ’s father was always very open about death and brought his children up with a healthy understanding that, while death is sad, it is a part of life. From RJ’s perspective, reapers are beautiful and necessary. He has never harbored ill will against any reaper, even going as far as to declare himself a Reaper-Activist. All of his school and college friends are pretty sure RJ made the title up, but joined him anyways. RJ minored in reaper studies at his college and aced every class he took. He has a logical answer to every question and argument against reapers. He has won academic debates on reaper rights. RJ’s perspective tends to draw people in and convince them that reapers are not bad. He has won his fair share of enemies, though. Humans who are of the ‘reapers are bad’ opinion do not take kindly to RJ’s activist persona. That being said, RJ has been in many fights, though not recently.
RJ has three younger siblings, two sisters and a brother, two of which still live with their father. RJ’s mother was a soldier and was declared KIA (killed in action) overseas just after she returned from having RJ’s youngest sister, Claire. RJ’s father is a lawyer in their home town which is smack dab in the middle of the country. The Carr family lives on a ranch that is also home to three dogs, four horses, twelve chicken and two pigs. The children had a normal childhood. RJ served as a second father of sorts after his mother died when he was nine years old.
Physical strength:
7/10 RJ works out occasionally. He was on the football and rugby teams in high school. In college he played rugby with some friends but never joined a team. He and his roommates still play sports every weekend. RJ knows how to fight and win from his many years of getting into fights with boys who were often times bigger than he was.
Mental strength:
9/10 RJ has Master's and Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology with minors in Reaper Studies and Social Work. He continues to have a thirst for knowledge. RJ is a very logical thinker and a quick problem solver.
Special ability:
Contact-based emotion manipulation. This ability allows him to change the emotion and disposition of anyone he is in contact with. RJ rarely uses his ability in favor of convincing people on his own. He was raised to value the freedom of choice in others. He has used it to calm his siblings and stop his opponents from taking the beating too far. It relies on skin-to-skin contact, so RJ cannot use it whenever suits him. He has to either ask permission, or convince the other person to trust him before he can do anything. The effect is not instant and, with enough willpower, can be resisted.
Outward personality:
RJ is a laid back person in general. The people around him describe him as warm, inviting, and ‘like a big brother.’ He is friendly to everyone he comes across regardless of how they treat him. RJ can be annoying that way. His friendly nonchalance is tossed to the wind when reaper-human equality is in the balance. RJ becomes passionate and hard to keep up with in a debate. He talks a-mile-a-minute when he wants to. RJ is not quick to fight but, when the other guy throws a punch, he tries his best to be the one to finish it. He is not averse to fighting as long as it’s between him and another human. That being said, RJ will not hesitate to physically defend someone. He is fiercely loyal to his cause and his friends so much so that he often gets in trouble.
Inward personality:
RJ’s inner voice is always actively super friendly. He has to reign in his outgoing tendencies so as to not annoy anyone. He acknowledges the fact that he can be too much of a people person and tries to stay on everyone’s good side. RJ likes to have good control over the situation he is in. He is always trying to figure out how to diffuse arguments amongst people. More often than not, he is in deep thought, making others think that he is zoning off or tired. RJ is always thinking of arguments to support reaper equality.
Bio:
Robert James Carr was born to an American-Scandinavian mother and a Scottish father. He is the oldest of four children. He lived with both of his parents in the bustling capital of Washington on the west coast. He was well liked by his peers and mostly got along with his siblings. They were raised to respect life and honor death. Their father taught them about the stages of mourning and how mourning was a part of life, however small. RJ especially took to this philosophy. He became good friends with many of the reapers at his school and never missed an opportunity to ask them questions about their life.
His mother was a soldier who died in action when he was nine. At that point in time, RJ’s father took all of his children out of school and moved them to the countryside. The Carr family continued to grow there. RJ developed a fatherly shepherd from that point on. His father had to work on cases, sometimes away from home, so RJ stepped in. His siblings often fought with each other but rarely ever with him. RJ’s relationship with his only brother, Joseph, the second oldest, is strained due to Joseph’s drug use and anti-reaper mentality, which he developed after his mother’s death. Joseph was too young to understand the lessons their father had taught them and only knew that reapers were responsible for taking their mother away. He became bitter and isolated himself from the family. RJ, being as family oriented as he is, was broken by his brother’s choices. He does not consider Joseph to be his brother, much to his father’s (and his own) disappointment.
By the end of RJ’s senior year, his father’s practice was well-off enough that he could afford to only work regular hours, letting RJ go off to college. There, RJ thrived more than ever before. He developed his knowledge of reapers, as was his plan, won debates, joined clubs, and made friends. RJ even started a program for freshman humans and reapers to get to know each other, make themselves feel safe at the university, and insure equal opportunities within the workforce, on and off campus.
When RJ graduated, he and a few of his friends came to Grim City to find jobs as social workers. They rented an apartment in Lower Raven with all of their savings combined and got to work.
Occupation: Social Worker and Therapist
Borough:
Has an apartment in Lower Raven with some college friends but mostly works in Rosen.
Hobbies and interests:
Loves photography and sketching. RJ keeps a journal where he documents the things he did each day and writes the names of people he meets so that he doesn’t forget them. RJ is wildly interested in humans and reapers.
Other:
RJ's dad was a native Scotsman. He brought his accent with him and children semi-inherited it. Because of this, RJ has what he likes to call an "international" accent, not completely Scots, but not entirely plain either.
Theme song: Old Sea Brigade – Better Days
