Here is my unpopular opinion. With all that has been said in this thread, it taking nothing short of Nazi apologetics to derail it was actually pretty impressive.

this thread has gone from "ok" to /pol/ tier in less than a day.

holy fuck.

But anyway, I knew many were going to rage at the "fabricated opinions" one, so I just kind of put it there for ironic purposes. Not that I'm dismissing the thought that there's still some that seem fake as hell to me, though.

On a long enough time line every unpopular opinions thread devolves into "who can be the edgiest edgelord"

We really should've seen this coming

I mean, I'd like to think the intent was for people to be like "Popular thing is actually bad!" which isn't really edgy but hey who cares. But in all truth it probably was the plan deep down inside. It's good for drama.

In the past few pages, we've rolled enough bunches of straw to make a big, big man.

Look at what you've all done. Burn it down.

And maybe try actually posting some unpopular opinions here. I don't have any, or I can't think of something EDGY in my mind right now, so how about you all get back to doing what this thread was made for?

Breaking news

Judging someone for being male and generalizing all males is just as sexist as judging someone for being a woman and generalizing women.

This just in

Judging someone for being white and generalizing all whites is just as racist as judging someone for being black and generalizing all black people.

Am I doing it right?

I mean, you're not...exactly...wrong. The Red Army were literal animals during their incursions westward. But to say the Nazis weren't war criminals...Bruh, you need help.

also Japan was pretty bad too.

also every country commits war crimes.

Here's my unpopular opinion: You're all edgemasters and this thread is pure concentrated cancer.

I was, of course, making a genuine point, but with hyperbole to spice it up and drive it home.

Stalin's policies were responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people. His military had a policy of using its own soldiers as meat-shields, using recruits to intentionally soak up the bullets of the enemy, so that the Germans would eventually just run out of ammo. They knowingly traded hundreds of thousands of human bodies for bullets, with no intention of success or survival! They created artificial famines across all of the surrounding soviet states, killing 2.2 million Ukrainians, 1.1 million soviet-loyal citizens in Kazakhstan, and so on. And that's not to mention the unspeakable torture, death camps, executions and assassinations. Or the fact that the communists erased their own history, and rewrote a false retelling of the events, killing history on top of all the people who lived through it. The Russians also exported their ideology to China, and supported the Communist Party's rise to power there, overthrowing the government and leading to millions upon millions of additional civilians dying of torture, assassination, and starvation, not to mention the decades and generations of suffering that continued under the Mao regime, and subsequent regimes right up to present day.

The Brits bombed the cities of innocent civilians, where no soldiers were stationed, prompting return strikes that lead to the death of countless women and children in both Germany and the UK. They also put in place dozens of restrictions on freedom of speech, expression, and assembly, giving them an excuse to arrest anyone who disagreed with the decisions of the country, sending thousands of innocent British civilians to prison.

The Americans had racially segregated concentration camps for innocent Japanese-American citizens, tortured their prisoners (you think waterboarding is a new thing?), launched city-destroying fire-bomb raids, and dropped experimental radiation-bombs on multiple, highly-populous urban-centers.

The Canadians also had Japanese concentration camps.

The Italians brutalized thousands of citizens in the streets, and butchered hundreds of political officials and rivals, forcing the entire state under totalitarian control, inventing the notion of "Fascism".

The Nazis did human experiments and some freaky Soylent Green shit with a couple million captured minorities and suspected traitors, while the rest of their nation flourished.

As has already been said, every country involved was guilty of war crimes (kind of devaluing the whole point of calling it a war crime, really), but the blame and the hatred always falls exclusively on the Nazis. Did the Nazis do some fucked up shit? Boy did they ever! But, my point is, "one of these things is not like the other", and I don't think it's Germany.

As for the comments about sexuality, you're welcome to state your case. I'm open-minded about the whole situation, and would be happy to hear you out if you've got an argument to make.

And isn't the entire point of this threat to state edgy, controversial, "unpopular" things? It's not like we're going onto Facebook and Youtube, and intentionally triggering millennials. We're venting our opinions for our own purposes, in a specially purposed thread, on an off-topic discussion board, on an RP forum.

My unpopular opinion:

Being a lesbian myself- I think pride parades are pretty, for lack of better words, dumb. I mean, I get it. It's hard to be gay, lesbian, sexually attracted to butterflies, people can be assholes.

"But, they're marches to celebrate LGBT culture, pride, and legal rights like same sex marriage!"

Great. That's nice. What you're really doing is saying "I'M GAY FUCK YOU." It's like, ratting out your high school bully and doing a victory dance in front of him/her. Yea, bullying ain't cool, but by doing that you just enforce retaliation.

This goes for all pride and "power" parades. It's unnecessary. Bad shit has happened to me, you don't see me going around throwing parties about it and asking for a holiday. LGBT rights are important, but rallying all of us queers out and baking our rainbow cookies don't accomplish anything. Why do you have to specifically celebrate a specific culture.

Throw a parade. Celebrate the Chinese new year, celebrate the unification of everybody.

I mean, think about it. How many white power parades do you see? How many "Yay I'm straight" parades? It's like a Facebook social war except you're probably going to get hit by a rock.

Also, hummus is disgusting.

For the record, please, please, please take everything I say here with a grain of salt. Everything I type, I do so with a grin on my face.

I'm happy to address anything anyone becomes uncomfortable with. The spirit of this thread is fun, after all, right?

Edit: For all those triggered snowflakes, let me make myself clear: Nazis are bad. Trump is a buffoon. Overwatch is fun if that's your kind of thing. You have the freedom to identify as DoritoSexual, and there's nothing I can do about it, and nothing I would care to do about it.

Edit #2: And I'm not actually hitting on your sister. I promise.

well this isn't controversial though, it's appreciable fact.

Regarding the war crimes argument though, I agree that all sides did war crimes, I'd suspect that is true for most wars. The difference though, between the allies and the axis, is the Axis was basically all about committing atrocities. That was their shtick even before the war started, and it seemed likely that at the very least Hitler planned to escalate the atrocities after the war ended if he were to win. The right side won the second world war. There are few times where it is easy to say that so generally, but in that case it was definitely true.

No, only the superiors of the German side were about committing atrocities. The sticker underneath reads 'German prisoners-of-war watch footage of concentration camps in an American PoW camp' in German. The wehrmacht, luftwaffe and panzerdivisions were not really in charge of most of the atrocities, and the atrocities that happened in conflict areas (i.e. civilian deaths) were largely due to Soviet tactics that employed civilians to do random shit. And also because war is cruel, Russians were more cruel, and people have a tendency to get savage when they are given power.

Other Axis states (like the Italians) were so incompetent that they didn't even get to commit atrocities.

Japanese committed atrocities due to their feral warlike culture that promoted showing no mercy. It's terrible, yes, it's also war culture, so can we really blame the soldiers. :/ I studied international peacebuilding and I can say that the dilemma of justification during peacemaking is one that is very critical.

If we didn't offer Japanese soldiers amnesty from crimes, there would be such a stupid situation. It's just impossible to blame the Japanese soldiers for anything except in your head.

I was saying that of Axis powers, not everybody who lived within them. The point I was making was that, compared to the Allies, the Axis approach naturally lent itself to committing atrocities. I think that their policies of aggressive and unrepentant militarism, combined with their views on race and nationalism, just naturally lend them to atrocity. It seems pretty likely that, if they had won, a world dominated by Axis powers would have had more atrocities than the one that happened.

And for the record Italians did commit atrocities, they just all happened before the War started. Libya and Ethiopia would have some things to say about Italian atrocities though.
