What happened to Spam?

A long time ago, under the name TheMusketMan, I experienced Spam in it's prime. Sarcastic, unlikable, edgy douche bags everywhere making posts about topics and videos and spamfics. OH, THE SPAMFICS. What happened? Now it's just a bunch of pointless games. WHERE IS THE ANGST, PEOPLE!? I, personally, can't be more disappointed in how far you've fallen from YOUR ROOTS! Whatever happened to that faggot with the little finger Profile Pic? Jafar? Javar? I'm somehow getting a J name... ANYWAY, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY FOR YOURSELF!?

On topic, all those old douchebags moved on to other places and we got the dregs from other communities to fill their spots. After Jorick build a wall of words tall enough to climb out of here, Village appeared. After Nat got banned, Aaron came to cringe up the place with his shit. Etc.

People get tired, time goes on. Friendships only last so long and online friendships can grow especially faint. The human beings constituting those friendships wear thin and move on and change, and nostalgia accumulates in the absence.

Like not banning Nat sooner.

Also, there was a thing with the general user base trying to be polite and accepting for a time. Bad idea.

I understand the principle behind not banning people because you don't like them. But I think we could have used a handful of breaking that principle. But it is dangerous.

In fact, I probably would have been banned in my first year for being a dweeb. Probably would have worked out better for everyone.

So yeah. Too many bad posters left unchecked.

I'd like to remind you that you were the primary and strongest proponent of the "Mr. Nice Guy" attitude to all the terrible, annoying, fucking 12-year-old idiot shitposters that flooded in. It used to happen every summer and it was fine because the community didn't tolerate them, not because mods banned all of them. Don't blame it on just the mods*. Take some friggin' responsibility - this community died more because of the people like you (or rather, like you were at the time of the dying) and less because of mods.

* although, admittedly, the days of Sophi just not giving a fuck were probably more beneficial to Spam than Sherly's genuine competence

I doubt it had much to do with any singular cause other than the passage of time. I mean yeah old spammers have moved on or been banned but also we just grew up I think. I did at least. I was much more fun (and probably more obnoxious) as a teenager in Spam than the boring psuedo-adult I am now. The internet was a major part of my life back then and I had a lot of online friends, a lot of whom dropped off the edge of the world without a word, or slowly petered out as they lost interest in the forum or found better things to do with their time. As a result I started coming online less and less, because I knew the people I always talked to wouldn't likely be around, and I also found other things to do. In college I was so busy I only checked in every few months or so, and it wasn't as if anyone missed me so I had no reason to make an effort. The community aspect that originally attracted me to the shit hole that was Spam just kinda dissipated. People find other things to do with their time when they're bored, and Spam got boring over time for a lot of reasons but I don't think it's fair to blame any singular people for that, it's just what happens.

Maybe I was apart of it more than I remember.

If there were three classes of spammers; the elite, the regulars, and the 12-year-olds, I would say that I spent time trying to dissolve the barrier between the elites and the regulars.

I did defend Maxipad for a moment when I arrived. I really don't think I did it that much.

Edit: Even if I did it too much, I was the only one doing it for a time. By the time I switched sides Spam was still alive. The I was in the minority, while many others were Mr. Nice Guy.
