Countless times throughout the history of mankind has shown us that no Great Empire, no matter how rich and powerful, lasts forever, all great peoples fall eventually. The Romans, the Ottomans, the British, the Mongols, and many more. Great Empires that simply withered away into the passages of time, small traces left only in the history archives of their successors. And into the truly far and distant future, yet another is to fall into oblivion, by far the greatest successor of these previous powers in sheer scale alone, the Terran Imperium. The Imperium came about in the 28th Century, seven hundred years after humanity left Earth to colonize known space, there was a great conflict that had engulfed all of Human Space, a war between the Democratic Nations of the Solar Confederation, and the forces of the young Terran Imperium. Over a decade later, and the Imperium proved to be victorious in its final conquest of Earth and all of Human Space.

The victorious Teran Imperium soon turned its gaze upon the greater galaxy, and embarked upon a Grand Campaign that would last for over five hundred years. By 3345 A.D. or the 560th Year of the Imperial Calendar, a great portion of the galaxy fell under the dominion of the Terran Imperium, and would continue to rule for over a thousand years and so begun Pax Terra, or the Terran Peace, although for many, it was far from it.

The next Millennium was far from Peaceful for the most part, wars, insurrections and revolutions were a common occurrence, and all met with brutal Imperial might, all seemed hopeless, the Imperium seemed an unstoppable and well-oiled warmachine, what they were unaware of however, the Imperium was slowly rusting away from the conflict and sheer size, and was on the verge of collapse from within, but the Emperors of past and future had fiercely maintained the Propaganda of a unified and stable Empire, despite the contrary, even the Imperial Family and the ruling Noble Houses were divided among generations that schemed against one another.

By 4455 A.D. or 1670 I.C., It all came crashing down, the Terran Emperor and Empress, along with several members of the Imperial Family were assassinated, their personal star yacht shutting down and crashed towards the Capital City of New Rome. Blame was set upon by many suspects, be it the the older children, rival Houses, Anti-Imperial terrorists, the list goes on, nonetheless, chaos and disorder fell upon the Imperium as the various Princes and Princesses bickered and fought to claim the throne for themselves.

With no clear successor, the Imperium fragmented and fell into civil war, all the while thousands of various revolutions sprung up throughout the Imperium, cementing its final breaths. Over two centuries have passed, the former Imperium now split between dozens of Successor States, some claiming to be Ture Inheritors of the Imperium, others leaving the past behind and looking to the future. The Succession Wars however, still drag on even to this day.

It is the Imperial Year of 1895, it is a dangerous and turbulent time for the Galaxy at large, what path shall you take?

@Sigma What sort of techs are going to be common in this setting? Are we going to have some sort of framework for what is common or are we going with whatever works? I'd imagine that, after the fall of the Empire there was some loss in technology like what happened when the Western Roman Empire fell.

Hello, friends! I'm running an RP, but I've got time to spare for some spacefaring fun. I haven't touched sci-fi in quite a while; it's refreshing to dip into it again.

@Darkspleen Hmm, I'd say we'll just go with whatever works, perhaps we'll get a good grasp on tech of the setting eventually. Although yes, some technology, not quite sure what yet, has been lost since the fall of the Terran Imperium.

@Aristo Welcome aboard!

If anyone's playing humans, I intended my race to have been encountered/assimilated early in the Imperium's history, having fought in the war against the Solar Confederation and aided Terra in its conquest through the galaxy. Not wholly sure yet what kind of race they'd be, but I'm really drawn to this guy.

Aristo... My group are highly xenophobic humans that blame aliens for the empires downfall.

Though there could be exceptions if they were early helpers of humanity.

Edit, if its ok, can I have earth??

I guess it'll depend on what sort of canon we establish regarding the war between the Democratic Nations of the Solar Confederation & the Terran Imperium. One way or another, my people had an incentive to throw their lot in with the latter.

My nation would be one of the revolutions that rose up using human clones as the bulk of their military. They would've been a main supplier of military trained clones to the terrans. Think of them like the kaminoians from Star Wars just with different genetic techniques.

@Monkeypants Well, you could own a chunk of it, currently Earth is contested between whatever successor states are nearby.

I am going to play an imperial remnant, ill take a big portion of the sol system but my primary areas will be the near sol stars. It'll be loosely held due to the fact the remnants (at least the core earth ones) are still falling. A near earth star will be the capitol if a new forming military group led by a human-first fascist dictator, called simply, the Dominion of man.

I'll get on an ns asap cause I'm really feeling this RP. Got good players here so it might not be a ten post max RP.

Hey I'm wondering if it'd be possible to work under another player as a general/admiral or if you prefer people having their own empires? @Sigma

Zell, if sigma is ok with your question, ill host a fleet/general. I'll technically have two nations. The still crumbling imperial remnants and the new rising super racist dictatorship.

Obviously once my ns is up you can skip my nations, I wont be hurt :)

Well I decided to go with my old "Powderkeg Stars" idea (Though now renamed to something else as the analogy is more apocalyptic rather than Cold war proxy conflict), as such my nation is huge but also extremely divided and made up of many numerous factions in a brutal civil war with itself. It will include humans and aliens, mostly all killing each other.

Working on the sheet now.
