wolf only has bite (1d6 plus trip) tho which is pretty ok with the trip maneuver, there's also wasp(giant) who has sting (1d6 plus poison) and poison special attack, that being said there is a list of animal companions here but then there are these "Animal Companions - Effective Druid Level 1" which look way more powerful, unless i misunderstand something, the animal companion creation mechanics are a bit confusing to me, there's alot of the a.c. x is half of the druids y thing and all those kinda things that i lose sense of :(

i'd like to pick an animal companion over the element domain, but i'll need a bit of hand holding with it's creation, if any of you have time sometime and are willing to lend a hand, let me know unless i have to make it with the GM if it needs dice rolling and his confirmation on them:)

Animal companions are a lot simpler than you think. Seriously - they give you the stats right there for 1st level animals. Just gotta pick a skill and maybe a feat, and you're set. Now Summoner's Eidolons - those are complex.

ok so my animal companion, who's a giant wasp has these starting statistics

and the table with the Animal Companion Base Statistics shows this

it also says "An animal companion's abilities are determined by the druid's level and its animal racial traits." what animal racial traits?

do i have to pick all it's abilities and feats and what not, or they are already picked like the one from the first hider, if so, what's the point of the stuff in the second hider?

Hehehehe.

So couple things:
1 - Both the bite AND the claws are priamry. This means when the panther does a full-attack action it performs 3 attacks (bite/claw/claw) at it's full BAB (in this case Melee using DEX). If they were secondary, the claws would've gotten a -5 to hit.
2 - The bonus trick that you get from animal companion is in addition to those normally granted to an animal. Which means your panther can know 7 tricks, of which 1 doesn't require training. All other tricks (the 6) you will have to teach during the game, unless our GM states otherwise. I have never used animal tricks, but I've heard they are pretty situational. Just pick whatever you like (mechanically or fluff), most of the time your panther's gonna be hitting things...a lot...really hard.
3 - Just to be clear, rake's are also priamary, but only usable while in a grapple. And they are 1d6 for a Big Cat (which I assume is where you took the stats from).
4 - Any creature (except those without a CON score) get their CON mod as bonus HP per hit die. Your panther should be getting (+1)x2 extra HP not just (+1), since it has 2 HD.

I think that might be all.

I've never had much experience with them since the only player of my live group to use animal companions was my wife, who's standard combat plan is charge in with power attack and forget about the companion half the time.

Hey, guys! I realize it's been a long time... I've been having some issues with internet recently and having job/money related issues these past few months so I've been busy with trying to get myself back on my feet. I'm in a place right now where I can start the campaign for those that are still interested, but I understand completely if interest for it has gone with time.

Lemme know either way though. I won't be disappearing again in the foreseeable future, so that's not going to be an issue. If I can get at least four players I'd be willing to start this up again.
