Berling has no idea he is goinf to die and in the near future NKVD planning has looked very bad for Poland.

Isn't this alternate history? Whatever happened in real life doesn't apply here I think. (except real people's deaths, I think)

It's alternate history, but that doesn't mean just going and doing whatever you want. We need to keep some sense of realism and realistically, neither NATO nor the Warsaw Pact is going to let any of their countries go.

You forgot the part where Poland was their own army group and turned into a major.production area that by 1951 was key in keeping East German based forcds supplied with tanks like the T54.

And no, Poland did not have any proper armed force before the mid-50's.

Poland did not have any proper armed forces before the mid-1950's and all production of this was done in Russia and East Germany itself. Stalin had such a fixation on heavy industry the USSR didn't know what to do with all of it by the time he died.

I honestly think we should just RP out wars and figure out what happens with realism in mind.

I don't mean that far as too leave NATO or the Warsaw Pact but I think it could be possibly to negotiate with the Soviets over the deployment of the NKVD in Poland.

That has a lot of potential for metagaming, powerplaying, etc.

It's hard not to powerplay when you have IS-3s.

Oh, different kind of powerplay. Right.

Well, it's nice to hope that people can play with a sense of 'this is a game between people, collaborative in nature.' But there is also always, especially in NRP, the potential for a bunch of OOC squabbling that brings down the whole thing. It's the call of the players to decide which kind of player they want to be.

I think it's a nice potential for people to step up to the plate and prove they can roleplay responsibly. But that's my usual mantra and sometimes that fails completely.

I'm not a fan of roleplaying wars. That is going to be powerplaying. If only we had sort of a game where it could be done.

Ya, they kind of did. Before the government was setup they were almost their own theater force before being rolled into the Belorussian theater. Afterwards they expanded to several hundred thousand strong and were fully modernized by the Soviets.

Anything that happened before the RP started is in effect so those massacres still happened.

That was in the second world war. All armies shrunk during that time, and the Polish army is no exception. It had no military-industrial complex and a tiny regular army devoid of equipment proper equipment, no air force, etc. These countries were kept down so that Russia could easily roflstomp them. I can't say this for the Poles, but the East German units actually had Russian troops embedded in them.

Poland was almost their own theater strength force before 1945 and began production of state of the art Soviet tanks in 1951.

If you intend to rely on heavy armor this is not going to be a very fun invasion for you.

The Soviets based almost 100,000 men in Poland and because they had good control of the Polish armed forces as they controlled the officer corp. Poland also did shrink, down from 1 million on all fronts.

Sources on military strength and production? Also note that it's 1950.

Airdropping in again because I am nosy and annoying, as women should be:

If Dutch intends to rely on heavy armour, this is not going to be a fun invasion for /you/, Omega. The IS-3 made the west shit their collective pants and quickly pull designs out of their ass to counter it. How do you even intend on countering it?

Vaexa out. For reals, hopefully, as I am without a doubt getting annoying

The IS-3 is meant for an outmoded form of warfare, we are less than a year out from next generation MBTs. The IS-3 was not a big deal, the T-54 was.

It's still going to kick the living shit out of your entire army, since your army is still stuck in the era the IS-3 is from. The MBT era of tanks kicked off properly after Korea.
