“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”

Welcome to my interest thread, now, let me tell you a little more about what I have in mind!

I am a huge Tolkien fan, as I imagine many others are, and have always wanted to run an Advanced RP set in the Tolkienverse and so this shall be my first attempt at doing so. So bear with me.

That being said, this is what I had in mind;

A dedicated and, hopefully, long-running RP set against the backdrop of the Fourth Age of Arda; beginning a year or so after the Fall of Barad-Dur and Sauron, our group (imagining mostly Men, but Elves or Dwarves might possibly be accepted too) setting off on an adventure quite of their own - I do have a narrative lined up, although, depending on the number of players and exactly where it goes, I'm more than happy to be more malleable about the plot line.

Secondly, I must reiterate that this is both an Advanced RP, and that I would prefer players with at least some knowledge of Tolkien and his universe. By that I do not mean everyone needs to write like Tolkien, nor that you need to know the background to every leaf from the Trees of Valinor, just that you haven't simply seen the films and that you can carry a character from this rich fandom.

Yes, I understand that this is potentially the broadest and least detailed interest thread ever, but until I know there are those willing to join I've forgone a more detailed look at what I've got in store. Please feel free to ask questions though!

Now, do I have anyone's attention?

Interested! I've been a Tolkien fan for even longer than I've been a Warhammer fan. Read the books (including just some info books), seen the movies more times than I can count, and read the Hobbit 6 times because I used to read it once a year in school. Elen Sila lumen Omentielvo

@POOHEAD189 Ah, POOHEAD, mae g'ovannen and I am honoured to have such an experienced soul showing their interest. :) Do I detect a Dwarve on the horizon?

@Andromedai You are most welcome, for I know of your love for Tolkien and embrace you with open arms.

Is there no-one else?!

I shall either be a Dwarf, or a Ranger of some kind.

Good man, reference achieved!

Ranger sounds cool as well, as long as you're not basing him on Aragorn.

@JbcoolI like the Dunedain concept, but no he wouldn't be a carbon copy. Might even make a man based on Rohan or Gondor (book nations, not movie nations). But then again...will probably go Dwarf.

Tempted, and am actually in the middle of reading The Silmarillion. But am reluctant to jump into a big group. What exactly did you have in mind for this idea?

@eloraczyr Need not be a huge group, we're three of us presently.

As to what I had in mind, it may well involve a Silmaril...as well as place(s) not covered, really, in the books - the East maybe, Harad perhaps, possibly the frozen north - likely to bump into a Black Numenorean that is not the Mouth of Sauron aaaaand yea.

I do have a more detailed scheme, but it really depends on how many of us there are and choices for peoples characters.

I realise it's not much to go on, but until I know there's an amount of interest, I don't have much to go on either. If that makes any sense.

Nah, I totally get it.

I'd have to seriously brush up on my lore (it's been a while since I've read the trilogy/The Hobbit) but I'm certainly interested.

I'm kind of leaning towards an elvish character, but understand if we need more of the human type to the party :D

@eloraczyr Muchos gracias!

Wouldn't wory too much about the lore - as I said, I'm not going to need everyone to know the backstory to every single thing Tolkien ever wrote...that way lies madness.

As for an Elf, much like a Dwarf, if the profile is good enough then I'm pretty open-minded to most things. Humans are preferable, but yea, I'm easy like Sunday morning.

Glad to have you aboard.

One...two more folks...then I'll get the OOC up!

Haha okay. I'll work on a normal person! From reading up above I see we have a ranger.

What about a newly initiated wizard of sorts?

Not a wizard, thank you, unless they're part of the Istari...and I'd not allow that. Apologies.

Also, methinks POOHEAD will probably go for a Dwarf - he loves Dwarves.

No worries! Just trying to find the best fit for the group.

I might actually dust off an old character now that I think of it, who might fit. An old black smith if you think that might fit better!

Interested on principle and by Tolkien - but I'm sort of a First Age only snob. I would need more information on where exactly you are thinking of driving the story.

@eloraczyr@POOHEAD189@Andromedai

I'll tell you what - I have no actual set Age for this RP, as of yet (this is just an interest thread), but I would be interested to know if anyone would be interested in a First or Fourth Age RP sort of...looking back.

The First is clearly set in the 'glory days' of Arda, while the Fourth does allow more exploration post-WoTR, and even a little bit of invention on the players/characters parts.

I will say now that the general idea was to head into 'parts unknown' - the East or Far Harad most likely - and aid in the recovery of one of the two otherwise 'lost' Silmarils.

A Fourth Age setting would aid in this, I believe, as vast upheavals caused by Sauron and the toppling of Barad-Dur as well as the just the general affect of the war on folks would probably cause a more 'dark age' feel to the tale.

Then again, that is allegedly why Tolkien didn't write a Fourth Age book in the first place.

Interested, though I'd like a clearer depiction of the potential plot and scale before I fully commit. IE how large of a cast you want for the RP, what the tale is about, etc

@JbcoolIf I am being honest, the '2nd Age' is my go to. Though the War of the ring in the North is also a fine idea.
