Legacy:The Mysterious Mysterion
WW II Predecessor:Benjamin “Ben" Ellis Kurt
Name:Bartholomew "Burt” Alexander Kurt
Alias:The Magnificent Mysterio
Relationship to Predecessor:Grandson of Bartholomew Kurt
Age:28
Powers/Skills/Equipment:-Coming from a background in hollywood, Burt has a plethora of skills that he has employed in his days of villainy and now in the war. He put most of his more technical skills he learnt working in hollywood into his Mysterio suit. The most impressive part of the suit is it’s hallucinogenic gas nozzles located in the gloves and feet of the costume which also can act as a smoke screen. The gas itself doesn’t do a whole lot on its own but compounded with Burt’s holographic displays turns it into a deadly weapon as he can seemingly make dragons fly from the fog or make those under it’s influence think they’re in the himalayas. The suit also has some more practical weapons at it’s disposal such as the helmet filtering out any harmful chemicals such as his own gases and also containing a ten minute supply of air if needed. The suit also comes equipped with a pair of gauntlets fitted with custom made firearms allowing for actual killing power from the suit. The suit’s cape is also able to be electrified to stun opponents in close quarters. His suit also has some light armouring that is effective at stopping bullets from small firearms at medium range.
-Having worked as a stuntman for a while, Burt has picked up a few skills in the art of taking hits and dishing out hits. He is by no means a professional but he is still able to hold his own against someone of his size and stature in hand to hand combat if they are of a similar level of skill.
-Burt possesses a great deal of both mechanical and chemical know how though both are easily outshine by the greater geniuses of the world.
Weaknesses: -His holographic Illusions only work well on those effected by his smoke gas and to those looking at the holograms from the outside the gas, it becomes painfully obvious that the holograms are fake.
-Since in the past Burt has mostly worked solo, his powers aren’t suited to be used when fighting alongside allies meaning unless his comrades are wearing gas masks at all times, they will likely also see Burt’s illusions as realistic looking beings which may or may not frighten them or possibly harm them in a worst case scenario.
-Many of Burt’s own powers can be used against him such as if he were to get wet and use his electrified cape he would stun himself or potentially worse, if his dome-mask is cracked and he inhales his own hallucinogenic gas he can become frightened or harmed by his own holograms if he lets it get to him.
-While his illusions can be very convincing, they are still illusions and can only harm whoever they’re attacking by mentally scarring them or by having them harm themselves. (Such as making them think they are being fired upon by a lone gunman when in reality they are being shot by a comrade who is seeing the same thing or making a Pyrokinetic think they are being burnt to death by a dragon when they are actually engulfing themselves in flames.
-He is still human under his costume and though his costume does provide some light protection from small firearms, continuous firing will likely result in Burt’s demise.
Appearance:Predecessor's History:Benjamin Ellis Kurt was a second rate stage magician (going by the stage name ’The Mysterious Mysterion’) before the war whom was barely able to make ends meet by doing his tricks at small gatherings and children’s parties. This all changed when the war started and the allies’ morale began to falter. The American government began sending out movie stars and performers to entertain the the troops in between engagements. Ben was luckily recruited for this entertainment program which saw him traveling all around the various battle fields, bringing a small amount of joy to those fighting valiantly for their freedom. This kick started his career back home and he now resides happily in a retirement home in Las Vegas.
BRIEF Bio:Bartholomew "Burt” Alexander Kurt grew up in a very well off family with a mother whom held a steady job working as a receptionist to a large corporation while his father worked as a special effects supervisor for various bands. Burt learn’t a lot from his father and it eventually led him to take up the same occupation after going to college and majoring in chemical engineering except rather than working with bands, he decided to put his expertise to work in the movie business. Things started off good for Burt as he got a few jobs here and there on various small time movies, allowing him to make ends meet more often than not, it wasn’t luxurious but it was good enough for the time.
As time went on, Burt’s work life came to a stand still where it seemed he wasn’t going to be doing much better finically in his profession than he already was. This lead to some insecurities within Burt as he began to realize that more movie companies would likely pay some point-dexter half of what he charges to make some fancy CGI. This thought continued to fester in his mind all the while his mediocre lifestyle began to fade as business slowed down. Eventually he hit his tipping point when his long time girlfriend and him got into a fight, ending with her calling his job a joke.
This was Burt’s tipping point. He began stealing gear from whatever jobs he could find as he started construction on a suit that would give him an edge in his incoming criminal career. Two months after his breakup, The Magnificent Mysterio hit the criminal scene in Hollywood. His first few bank heist went off without a hitch as his illusions easily took care of everyone in his way, police included. It wasn’t until the sudden appearance of Spider-Man did Mysterio get caught. This was the beginning of a long cycle.
Eventually after being imprisoned once again, now in a high security facility in Washington DC, Burt hit rock bottom. He vowed to stop his criminal ways since all it had lead to was a slew of bad luck for the run down villain. He promised himself that if he ever managed to get out of prison, legally of course, that he would take up the mantle of a hero! Or at the very least get a more reliable job. After spending nearly a year in prison, The Magnificent Mysterio felt like he was rehabilitated though his request for parole were repeatedly shot down. One day as he sat in his cell, the entire building shook as a large cargo ship busted through the facility from seemingly nowhere. This amazingly random event was enough to bust Burt’s door off it’s hinges but not enough to harm the man. Burt tentatively stepped out of his cell and made a break for it. He was ready for his freedom, law or no law, but regardless he planned to stay true to his promise he made nearly a year ago.
He was going to be a hero… Or a chemistry teacher depending on how things panned out.
Additional Notes: -He still harbours a strong hatred of Spider-Man though he realizes that he probably shouldn’t since he was just doing his job..
