That really does help me out. I'm tossing through some ideas and I'm hoping to have a CS put together soon. The only part that's really stumping me is how to bring the character in via the backstory - I'm going to read what you all have done to see some examples!
Thanks for the answer, Igraine.
Name: Aoife, or just Ava
Gender: Female.
Type: Fae
Appearance:Possessing a tall and willowy build, she moved with a light step that barely leaves any trace behind. Her beauty has an almost ethereal quality, with her pale skin and long red hair that flows past her waist. Her eyes, though, are a bright emerald green. Her features are small and pert, but she always seems to be on the edge of a smirk.
Age: Appears early 20’s, in actuality is over 200.
Powers/Traits:
Powers:
Glamour - a very sophisticated and supernaturally powered illusion, allowing for invisibility and a change in appearance. Since glamour is her strongest skill, she can hold one indefinitely, even in sleep (unless incapacitated with cold iron).
Tongues - allows her to speak any language at will. This power also allows her to work the elements, but her skill is limited and spotty.
Sight - a limited precognition which comes upon her randomly. Usually the visions that come to her are fated to happen within a few days, but the visions can be so spotty that she only has a vague idea of what will happen. When she acts on her sight she is just as likely to harm as to help.
Truth and Lies - a Fae cannot outright lie, however, they are adept at word play and the twisting of meaning and literal speech.
Weaknesses:
Cold Iron - like all Fae, she is dangerously weak to cold iron. A brief touch is enough to cause searing pain, prolonged exposure weakens her to the point of incapacitation. Ingestion of iron is incredibly dangerous and if she has enough iron in her system it can kill her.
Distractibility - like many fae, she has a weakness for shiny, pretty objects. Now they won’t actually harm her, but she can be easily lured or manipulated by the strategic use of these “shinies.”
Oaths and Obligation - they cannot give anything away for free, nor can they take anything without giving something of equal value in return. A favor to return a favor. An oath will put a mutual obligation on both parties, and are binding. A Fae will have to make good on a promise, but they will makes sure that an involved human will do the same.
Background:
Aoife is young for a Fae, and as such is still a victim to her capricious and fickle nature. Many Fae of her age do not often meddle in the mortal realm, but Aoife - or Ava, as she lets most humans call her - lets her rash nature get the better of her. She flits through the mortal cities, enchanted by the humans she meets and the lives they lead - so short but so energetic. She has watched them grow for two centuries now, and the progress that they have made is incredibly, and their ingenuity is intoxicating.
[I was thinking that maybe I could play off her entering the service of Bain & Hoyle Company to some botched Oath or Obligation, making her bound in service to them for a time. This is just to get started, however, and I’m thinking that after her debt is repaid she will stay on for excitement value alone. However, I will need to work with someone to come up with the oath/obligation that lead to this.]
