So, as stated earlier, my newest effort shall be something of an experiment.

More specifically: My nation does not yet exist - it will slowly become a more material thing as the roleplay progresses. For the time being, I imagine I will be working with most of you on a collaborative basis. I will be sending pertinent details to (some) posters with posted nation sheets.

Solsys Network

Name of nation: Solsys Network
Species: The Solsys network originated on Earth/Terra and has a large amount of terran derived population.

The Solsys network is a technologically advanced nation that wholly embraces cybernetics, AI and to a lesser extent genetic engineering, The difference between "AI" and "Human" is blurred with the Solsys network as most members are cybernetic lifeforms or fully digital. As the Solsys Network had its beginnings on earth the majority of them are at least based on humans Neurologically.

Description of government: The Solsys network is a sentient social network capable of making decisions based on the will of the people but also not a complete "slave" to mob rule. The Network is distributed throughout Solsys explored space and different "nodes" have some degree of independence. Reputation plays a major role in Network politics and economy, those with a positive reputation tend to get more support and thus greater access to resources. Those who manage to piss enough people off enough might hit rock bottom. Any conceivable thing can gain reputation. Generally, Higher Reputation entities are trusted more so that when they give someone rep the rep means more.

Description of military:
PMC Overwatch: Many Private military Contractors exist throughout Networked space, Protecting employers assets in exchange for sweet sweet reputation. Overwatch exists to police them, those PMCs who join overwatch are given better equipment and are generally better trusted due to the codes they have to follow. PMCs are still largely given freedom of who they work for but "Using force to acquire Reputation" is strictly forbidden. If the need among the network is high enough, Overwatch may organize PMCs into a true military to deal with threats to the Network as a whole.

CommGuard: Commguard is a paramilitary organization who dedicate themselves to defense of Interstellar communication and trade. In a society such as the Solsys network this job is considered of utmost importance. Commguard Security forces defend planetside communications equipment while in space they command fleets of escort ships to protect wormholes and traders.

Technological Overview: The Solsys network shares much in common with the Terran Union technologically, however they tend to have a technological edge over them, especially in Cybernetics. The Network also maintains a vast network of wormholes, most of these wormholes are designed to communicate at faster than light speeds while some are used to transport physical objects from place to place. Recent research suggests the possibility of Moving wormhole nodes faster than light, though this opens up questions about the nature of time. Due to instabilities common in this procedure the Solsys network has been working on "Temporal Containment Fields" which will prevent "Temporal radiation" from destroying the wormhole. Though a shielded wormhole would thus not be a portal through time, only space.

Cultural Overview: The Solsys is fairly multi-cultural however some ideologies have become more common, in general most members of the network are accepting of augmentation technology. Over the years the network has become more focused on information rather than physical objects. Within the network hundreds of subcultures and cliques exist and it would be near impossible to describe them all
History: (WIP till Terran Union posts) The Solsys network traces its routes back to ancient Social media on earth, Early human AIs started to gain some rights through "Legal Shenanigans" one of these AIs was originally tasked with being a social network. This network gained a massive amount of followers becoming the dominant social network in the west. As the old government of the United States began to crumble from corruption and attempts to correct the corruption The Network remained. Under a new reputation based economy the corporate landscape underwent major changes, some old companies could no longer survive while others thrived. Eventually the network spread to the SpaceX mars colony and eventually the entire solar system becoming the "Solsys Network"
While having vast ideological differences with the Terran Union the Solsys network was its ally during the war against Fascism in Europe, The Solsys network and Terran Union still have qualms with one-another but very rarely openly fight, often working with one-another. The Solsys Network created a large interstellar communication network using wormholes that allows FTL communication between Systems close to earth, they plan on expanding coverage whenever possible, The Commguard protects these wormholes to ensure they are not sabotaged by hostile forces.

BTW, how large are the warships of people?
Mine would be between 200-800m with Vega-class being around 675m.
Although I plan to have my ships being relatively small compared to what everyone else has.

I'm just imaging your nation calling for reinforcements, getting put on hold for a few weeks, told that they are currently number 999,999,999 in a queue of callers, and then when your main nation responds it's an automated message telling you they're sorry but they are unable to respond at this moment and they apologize for the inconvenience.

I haven't actually thought too much on the details, to be honest. Though I've been thinking of them usually being on the larger side. And now that I'm thinking about it, it would actually make sense. The Simulacrum aren't big fans of violence, so if they can intimidate people into not fighting them then all the better.

@Willy Vereb Asivar- and Smite-class ships can be considered city-size though rare. Lower classes are still pretty huge. Much like the Simulacrum the Asivar Theocracy depends greatly on large ships. Because their warp-drive increases in size exponentially depending on mass. In other words, only really god damn big ships can hold the Faith Engine and the Enlightenment Engine big enough to warp it in and out. Same goes for the Yvuïn ships. Their doctrine is that either their small ships (Deliverance bomber and Emissary fighters) are capable of taking down a foe or they must slam it down like a mosquito should the smaller ships not be capable enough.

That's....108 miles.

For reference, Cuba is about 760 square miles.

By my limited understanding of maths....

It'd...it'd crush a good seventh of Cuba by landing. Cuba is also, at the largest, 55 miles wide. It couldn't even land on Cuba without hitting ocean....

Has the Universal Union not invented the concept of turrets? Or are most of the guns too large to mount of a swivel, or something? Honest question, I'm just curious because it's probably the one thing that stuck out at me (aside from the size).

I'll be honest. I've had people swear the same thing, up and down. It's never turned out well. The lack of reinforcements did alleviate my fears, but the ships that could rearrange the geography of a fair amount of earthbound nations simply by landing rather served to reignite them.

But the rulings been made, and I'm not the type to continue to demand an RPG change to accommodate my preferences once the GM has had their say. So I'll simply have to wait for one that does.

@Ophidian except none of them are designed for reentry. I'm not going to kill you by just landing on a planet over and over, the army is for the ground. I don't think I'll be killing anybody, in fact. not the UU style to kill off other species when they could make them a client state and leech their tech designs.

edit: and to be perfectly clear, 20 ships and 10k troops could hold maybe a single solar system and a portion of a planet. any further, and you're going into overextension.
