@King Tai Sure, two times seems alright. What would th estimate to that be? If becomes extremely light, he'd have great mobility, but his defenses would be vulnerable. Imagine what would happen to his 1 kilogram skeleton if it gets hit with a tackle. Or him being on top of a mount then suddenly increases his weight. Think of th poor horses. Just remember that only weight changes, nothing else. These repercussions are situational though, but if you phrase it well, you could probably avoid some of them.
@Scio So Annabelle's ability would be transmutation correct? Also that means her secondary that she'd be able to be 80% in is liberation. What would be some examples of what liberation would do to her ability?
I think I can live those risks. I changed up on the description. He'll just have to shift his weight at the right time when performing actions and if possibly, build up his physical tolerance and body over time. :)
@Letter Bee I have no problem with most of the contents of the application form. Now, let's talk about his magic. Wellspring seems balanced, so I won't be commenting on that. Fundamental Siphon, however, is something totally different. I don't mind Mikhail being able to absorb magical energy from spells, but he wouldn't be able to nullify or significantly weaken it. That's the price he has to pay for absorbing magical energy would be his body; he has to take the brunt of the spell before or while absorbing. Aside from that, we won't be using time or distant restraints since those don't translate well in text-based roleplays. You alright with that?
Can I change Fundamental Siphon to something else, then?
@January Alright, so it won't be a problem if I just make an intro post of him arriving to the school, post smoke-screen?
Not sure if Scio wants you to have been there the entire time or if it's okay to arrive now with scary Varus taking center stage.
Probably just draft up an intro + reaction post to the smoke event and Varus for now and wait on Scio to confirm if it's okay to arrive late and not be obliterated by Varus. If you needed to have been there the entire time, it'll be a simple matter to add that in before posting.
@Scio, Double-post; had to collect my thoughts. The concept behind Mikhail is that of a Non-Elemental Mage, aka a Mage without power over the physical elements. Rather, Mikhail's power is that of the Soul, and I don't mean ghosts or spirits, but rather the inner energies that allow one to use Magic. Basically, the 'Magic of Magic'.
Sounds overpowered, right? Well, Mikhail's would-be drawback is that again, he cannot control any physical elements, and he is vulnerable to mundane fists and mundane attacks. Nor will he ever have the sheer raw power of someone who can control fire, earth, or gravity. With that in mind, here is Mikhail's edited Character Sheet:
Name: Mikhail Suburov-Tachibana
Age: 16 Appearance:
Personality:
Mikhail Suburov wants a lot of things, both unselfish and selfish. One is for Magical Beings and Humans to live in harmony, nay, symbiosis, and the other is for a girlfriend or boyfriend; he's not picky. He is aware that for those to happen, he has to have power, and is frustrated at his lack of it, including magically. Then again, he's also the type that tends to rush first without thinking, while believing he's up to whatever the world can throw at him, so it's best that he has no power at first.
He also tends to act as though his life is that of an Anime, taking most of his social cues from things he watches or reads, as well as hides deep insecurities inside, due to his past.
History:
Born to a relatively rich Japanese-Russian Couple with magical powers, Mikhail was nevertheless subjected to prejudice because of his ancestry and his parents' abilities, with only his family's wealth saving him from the worst of bullying. It was something he didn't want to remember, and something that left him friendless, dependent only on Anime, Manga, Light Novels, and Videogames for a reason to live. Then, one day, his mother suggested:
"Why don't we just not send you to school? I mean, your father might not like it, but I'm sure that if we confront him with the staggering suicide statistics among schoolchildren, we can convince him to just let you be homeschooled, or allow you to spend your days in the library?"
Mikhail accepted the suggestions gratefully, with open arms, and discovered a subculture of people who avoided school by staying at the public library, unwilling to choose between school or death. There, he found friends among nerdy people like him, people who learned at their own pace, who were more open-minded than the normal student, and had also found a safety valve from the stifling conformity of Japanese society. And in his happiness, he manifested his magical power at dinner with his parents as he was gushing about his friends. And with a smile, they went over and embraced him.
The letter from Four Winds came thereafter, and while Mikhail was hesitant, nay, resistant to going to school again, his parents reassured him that this time, he would be able to defend himself, and that the teachers there won't bully him. And all Mikhail can say was:
"All right, I'll give it a chance, but I'm running away if something bad happens, okay?"
And with that, he went off, to what he hoped was an environment where he can actually learn...
Skills: History, Literature, Kendo, Sabers, and Wrestling/Grappling.
Abilities:
Name:Magical Fundament
Type: Enhancement.
Description: The Magical Fundament governs the flow of magical energy in people, places, and things, as well as the composition of said magical energy.
Edit: As of late, Mikhail only has one ability:
Aura of the Cornerstone - Mikhail gives himself or someone else a silvery-white nimbus/aura that grants mild resistance to Magic. However, the longer it's applied, the more it taxes Mikhail.
This can change as Mikhail grows in power and advances through schooling, but right now, the protection it grants is basically limited. Further weaknesses are that Mikhail's aura also resists healing Magic, and that forcing him to breathe in or ingest something magical, like, say, magic poison, would get past his resistance.
Inventory: Clothes, books, school supplies, a bento box, smartphone and laptop.
@Scio If we have to have a progression I guess she'd just get stronger.
Also you've set this game in pretty much the most inconvenient place possible so I'm not sure how Layla could get anywhere if not by bird taxi. If you have any suggestions for alternatives, feel free to let me know.
Changed the formatting on her magic to what it's supposed to be now, also.
@Ayemdar So Annabelle's ability would be transmutation correct? Also that means her secondary that she'd be able to be 80% in is liberation. What would be some examples of what liberation would do to her ability?
Primary would be Transmutation (100%) which would be the transformation of her magic to mimic the properties of water and eventually you can give it a healing factor. The secondary properties of her magic would be Enhancement (80%) and Conjuration (80%). Enhancement would increase the effects of the healing, the force of the blasts of water she creates, or the rate of volume increase she can do given a small amount of water to name a few. However, Liberation is required for long-range release of your magic, but that's on the opposite side of the chart for Anna, so she wouldn't be that proficient in releasing her water towards far ranges. Luckily, Conjuration is close towards her main attribute, so you can use to this counteract this dilemma of not being able to produce long range attacks. You can create constructs of water efficiently but most would be short ranged. Would that be okay? If not, I can think of some other mechanic for Anna's ability.
@King Tai That's all I needed to hear. Accepted, man. Sorry it took too long. Feel free to post in the character tab and in the IC.
@hagroden Just type as if you were part of the whole smoke fiasco. I mentioned in the latest update that Jasper was waiting for the rest of the students to arrive. The rest of the students I was referring to were the characters who I just accepted recently; that include you.
@Menhir Well, to be fair, that's how you wanted to play the game I offered to you. Anyway, despite her size, I believe her strength is that of an average grown man, so I think her speed would be on par with that. It terms of moving speed, she wouldn't have problems traveling, but a mere walk in the park would probably be an adventure for her.
Where's her CS? Could you repost it or give me a link to it?
Personality: Impulsive, unshakable, and spectacularly blunt, Layla may very well win the award for world's smallest bulldozer. She's a well-intentioned but irritating sort of person who gets through life by being as persistent as humanly possible. She has a bad tendency to make light of other people's problems- after all, when molehills are mountains, mountains don't seem all that bad. Understandably, many people find her obnoxious. That being said, she's still a basically good person at heart and will go to ridiculous lengths to help a friend in need. In spite of her insistence on helping others, she has an extremely hard time accepting help herself.
History: As far as anyone is aware, Layla has no mother or father. Found in a flowerbed as a baby, she raised in an orphanage. She spent most of her early life struggling with her small size, giving birth to a fiercely independent and fiery demeanor. Determined not to make trouble for anyone, she refused any form help from others. This led to a lot of alienation and she failed to make very many friends during elementary school. Through middle school, her bluntness and small size made her an obvious target for bullying. She did her best to soldier through things with hard work and guts, but there's only so much a positive attitude can do. When they received the letter, the matron was against it, worried for Layla's safety. Layla, not wanting to be a burden on her family any longer, insisted on going.
Skills: Sewing, getting along with animals, coping with daily life while 6 inches tall, sneaking around
Magic:
Name: Thumbelina
Type: Enhancement(?)
Description: Layla is approximately six inches tall. In spite of this, she possesses disproportionate strength, equivalent to that of a full-size human. She's just as loud as a full-size human, too.
@Menhir Well, you don't have that much options given her history and ability though. Searching for a mount that would cater to your needs could definitely be done within your stay in Four Winds. You could inconspicuously hitch rides with the other students?
@Menhir Sorry, man. I just wanted to be fair since I rejected mostly everyone who wanted to bring/have weapons. The only way I'd let the bird fly if it was part of her magic. Anyway, accepted, dude. Feel free to post in the IC and character tab.
@MenhirProbably, depends on how you use it. but it counts as something outside from her ability. I mean, mobility was a handicap that came with the ability you chose.
