USS Tricyion

It has been over 30 years since the USS Enterprise started its voyage of discovery. Starfleet has made some improvements since then in their starships, and lately have been sending out more scouting ships than ever before. Science vessels have also been in high demand, since Starfleet believes in learning about the newly discovered uninhabited planets. Soon, they created a new class of starships, one in which is small and great for scouting, but also is equipped with scientific equipment and the personnel to operate it. The new Nova class has taken off and you are on board one of the very first ones.

The crew of 78 people is full of qualified officers from Starfleet. From Engineers to Scientists, it is full of interesting people. Welcome aboard the USS Tricyion.

Alright, obviously since this is a Starship, it needs a crew. Down below is a list of positions that are needed to make this ship operate. There might be some problems though, with figuring out what rank everyone on the ship is. Aside from the Captain position (I'm playing Captain so that the RP can continue on effectively), every rank is going to be randomized. Before you create your character, I need you to tell me what general position you would like your character to be in, I'll use a list and a random number generator to figure out what rank you are to make it fair for everyone, instead of having everyone call positions. Since that does tend to get confusing after a while.

There is also another little something I'm adding in here. Since this takes place 30 years after the Original Series, you are allowed to have your character related to someone from the original crew. Before you create your character, tell me which person it is so I can make a note of it. I'll only allow up to 2 characters being related to the same person, and you have to take about it with the other person. This is on a first come first served basis.

Now that all of that is out of the way. Time to start listing things off...

General Possible Positions
Bridge Crew
Science Officers
Engineers
Medical
Security

Possible OS Crew Relations
Kirk
Spock
Chekov
Uhura
Sulu
Scotty
(Bones isn't listed since I am making one for him. PM me if you want to use him too)

CS Sheet

P.S. I edited the timeline a little, technically the Nova class wasn't created until 2370, and I'm technically having it around in 2315.

Interested. Either want to be a Vulcan medical officer or a Vulcan science officer. Which would you prefer? (I know Vulcan's are common, but they're my favorite Star Trek race. I'm a full Original Series fan myself.)

Alright, here's a quick idea. I'll accept the luck of the draw, though I would like her to be of a rank that would put her in a position to interact with the bridge crew and/or go on landing parties.

Well, this might work for you then, you seem to be following the footsteps of Bones. You got chief medical officer, you are the ships doctor and are of the rank of Lieutenant Commander. If your curious that rank goes to Chief Engineer, and the Chief Medical Officer. Not that bad considering.

I added a few things to the character sheet. Like age and a new section.

Alright! Thanks. I will edit the parts to fit the changes.
Now two parts of the triumvirate are complete. Is your captain more of a Kirk or more of a Mccoy?

Hmm... Well depends on what you mean.

Probably a little more towards McCoy (Most people would expect if anyone was Captain, they'd be related in someway to Kirk, I might have decided to go with a relative of Bones instead, hehehe...)

Personally, I've always liked Bones better than Kirk or Spock, him and Scotty were always my favorite characters.

All three of the main were my favorites, though especially Spock and Mccoy (especially how they bounced off each other and sparred). The dynamic among them was enjoyable. I also enjoyed Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura though.

By that I mean dynamic wise. Part of the fun of the original series and something they somewhat tried to emulate with all other versions of Star Trek was how the "main three" could play off each other in an id-ego-superego matter or in other words emotion, logic, and the choice between. Explained well on Tvtropes about the Freudian Trio.

It's not a big deal, mostly just for the fun. The only way to get the same dynamics would be to have the same characters as the original. T'Plior is mostly a Spock, but has a very Mccoy-ish part to her. Your Mccoy-ish captain and her might have the same sort of snipe battles or they may head a very different direction. However it turns out, we'll have fun either way (if anyone else expresses interest).

I'm going to also post this topic in the General Interest Check, since it took me a while to discover this area existed and it might get more people to join in.

Sounds good. You may also want to put Tetra on as an example of how the character sheet works. People like to be able to have a feel for what the GM wants and an example character is a good way to achieve that. Just a suggestion.

I wonder if anyone would actually make a Kirkish Chief Science Officer. An impulsive scientist, always wanting to be in on the action, yet having to be the mediator when tensions rose too high between the captain and the ship doctor. The romancer aspect would be optional. Someone could have fun with that role.

Not a requirement though. It might be better with no Kirkish person or the Kirkish one might be in a different field like engineering or navigation. The stars are the limit.

@Cyrania

You know, having an example of a CS sheet sounds good to me. Also, having someone like Kirk as a science officer would be hilarious!

@DepressedSoviet

It will be fun having you on board. What kind of character are you thinking on playing?

@BlueSky44 Usually the example character is added to the first post. And it would be hilarious.

Meh, I don't really care where it is. I just put it there in case people want to see it.

This is only the second time I'm the GM for something, so I'm still learning what I'm doing.

That's alright. From what I've seen, the most important thing a GM can have is a solid idea of what's going on in the game world and a clear idea of where the game can go, which you have.

Thank you for that compliment...

Now, you would think there would be a lot more people interested in this, especially because Star Trek Beyond came out this past year.

All of the fellow Trekkies I know aren't on this site. Just two more people and I can get this running with the ability for people to just be able to jump in.

Do you know any sci-fi people with free time? Unless they really dislike Star Trek, they should be fine. I'm looking though the people I know to see who would want to come.
