Pondering ship names now. 40K has the best ship name options.

I too would prefer it being the navy rather than a Rogue Trader. A rogue trader is too cliche. However, if we do go the rogue trader route I would prefer that it is one of the Rogue Traders who is just a guard general with sanction to go into far off space.

Well, seems I missed a bit while at work. Let's see here...

I think going Rogue Trader would kinda be its own theme, really, well apart from Imperial Navy. Like JB said, its more a mixture of Inquisition (with a more radical bend typically) and Guard/Navy than anything else. While Rogue Trader games can be fun, I figure this would indeed be better suited as an actual Imperial Navy expenditure, probably with a good deal of oversight/interfering from our good friends at the Adeptus Mechanicus. Either run Rogue Trader or this, I figure, would be better than shoe horning Rogue Trader into this. Just my two cents there, though, I'm still in regardless on that.

As for being part of a battle group, I think we could cater to both sides here. Folks who want to stay focused on one ship, bridge staff for the main vessel. Those who want their own ships could either be launchable void craft from the ship (Solves the interaction between fights) or full blown escort class vessels independent of the main ship. I would lean much more towards the centralized ship instead of many individual captains, but again, just my two cents.

And W40k names are indeed, as they say, bitching.

I think this is a great suggestion.

also- @jbcool i know you've got alot on your plate, I'm happy to do any of the legwork needed to set up the OOC.

Okay, zo, what I have so far is that this will remain an RP of the Imperial Navy - just with some stretches in authority and so on and so forth; alongside this we can, as Eisenhorn rightly pointed out, cater for both sides.

While I would prefer a singular ship, if you do want a smaller escort vessel of your own, then speak up now. For 'reasons' I would dissuade people from it, but I wont put my GM foot down if someone desperately wants their own ship.

The ship we're crewing, as I've mentioned, is a new prototype vessel created at the dawn of the 42nd Millennia for deeper exploits into uncharted space, but also a balance between the bulk and speed of a Frigate-class vessel while being able to pack more of a punch than the usual long-range scout/escort ship - I'll get the actual specs and dimensions up once the OOC is done, as well as what positions will certainly need filling aboard the ship.

If you have any questions before then, please feel free to ask.

Umm, since I am considering different characters, would a Squat be fine? @Jbcool

@Andreyich Not really, especially considering that Squats no longer exist as a people in the 40K universe; is this because you want to use your character from the other RP?

@Jbcool

I have every intention of sticking to the main ship, perhaps as the head of security. That would fit rather well, I'd reckon. A Master at Arms, if you will.

No, I just like the Dwarf archetype.

I would just like to point out that Squats still exist in 40K in considerable number, and have not been wholly retconned :/ They were mentioned in 7th ed and in the Horus Heresy.

@Andreyich They are mentioned as a disparate people, some still serving in the Guard, while others live isolated across the Imperium. I'm not adverse to the idea, I simply fail to see why you'd bother having a Squat when a broad and bearded (or not) human would do just as well...

If you're really all that keen though, and can come up with a good reason why they'd be part of the Emperor's Glorious Navy, then I'll consider it.

@Eisenhorn Indeed, sounds like a good plan!

Because they do not have the same lore. A Squat has the story of his people damaged, lost, clinging to the Imperium like a sickly babe to a tit, trying to keep themselves unique and not wholly assimilated.

I like to stay in the comfort zone of a GM though so I will go with something else. So as earlier suggested, a Navigator or Fleet Comissar alright?

Nothing to do with my comfort zone

You want a Squat? iI can accept that - just give me a decent reason as to why they'd be there in the first place...I can think of a couple, but helping with the design and building of this new ship would probably be a big one. They'd need to be supervised by sanctioned servants of the Omnissiah, of course.
