Shiranui used Boukun in his appeal round and had the Tyrunt show off the car-crushing power in his jaws by using Crunch to break a Rock Tomb into smaller stones and using Stealth Rock with the stones. Boukun let off a bright glow as he evolved into a Tyrantrum during his appeal and finished it off by letting off a loud Roar.

Back in the green room, Shiranui scanned Boukun with his Pokédex. "Tyrantrum, the Despot Pokémon and the evolved form of Tyrunt. Thanks to its gargantuan jaws, which could shred thick metal plates as if they were paper, it was invincible in the ancient world it once inhabited."

Liam was impressed with the appeal. The top 8 were annoucded once all coordinators did an appeal.

After the first battle, it was Liam's turn. Liam used Hydro the Blastoise, and won aginst a Poochyena.

Shiranui continued his theme of using ancient Pokémon when he sent Kohaku out against a Blitzle. "Blitzle, the electrified Pokémon. Its mane shines when it discharges electricity. They use the frequency and rhythm of these flashes to communicate." One Earthquake from the Mega Aerodactyl was enough to shake Blitzle into a knockout.

Hydro won after soaking the Butterfree's wings to the degree that it was unable to get airborne.

Kohaku won through giving Steelix a burn with Fire Fang and using the infamous Taunt/Torment combo to get around Steelix's defences until time was up. Shiranui knew that Liam's Blastoise would be tough to beat.

It was time for the final round of the contest. Liam called Hydro the Blastoise out, who emerged in a flurry of bubbles.

"Kohaku, I choose you!" Shiranui called his Aerodactyl out and white ribbons streamed out of Kohaku's Poké Ball before entwining into a double helix that formed the Aerodactyl.

"Begin!"
"Hydro, Water Pulse!" Liam called. Hydro formed a ball of water and fired it at Aerodactyl.

"Batter up with a Brutal Swing!" Kohaku wound up with his tail and swung it violently at the Aqua Tail, hitting it straight back at Hydro for a line drive.

"Ice Beam and give it a smack!" Hydro froze it and knocked it back in its original line of trajectory.

"Supersonic!" Kohaku let out a loud squawk that was at the right frequency to shatter the ice ball.

"Aura Sphere!" Liam called. Hydro conjured and fired the ball of energy and fired it at the Aerodactyl.

"Do an aileron roll!" Kohaku flew at the Aura Sphere, angled his wings and started spinning in mid-air, tucking his wings in to reduce drag. He used a Wing Attack and like a spacecraft deflecting laser fire, swatted the Aura Sphere away.

"Withdraw and Rapid Spin!" Liam called. Hydro pulled into his shell and began spinning in place, making a twister.

Sashia watched there battle, having left Daenerys to train with Smuag so she could keep learning about her opponents so she could build strategy's to counter them and give her the grand festival ribbon so she could add it to her collection since she had the Aloha champion trophy and the ribbon from winning the Hoenn grand festival.

"Ride that Twister and give Hydro an Earthquake!" Kohaku flew into Hydro's Twister and rode the winds, gaining altitude. The Aerodactyl exited the Twister, went into a nosedive and struck the stage at a high speed, setting off an Earthquake.

Hydro was hurt by the maneuver, and Liam lost a few points. Liam called for Dark Pulse.

"Agility into Sky Drop!" Kohaku relaxed his body before taking back to the air, using the Speed boost to dodge Hydro's attack. The Aerodactyl dived towards Hydro with his talon-like claws ready to grab him.

"While he is close Mega Evolve and use Aura Sphere!" Liam called, while activating his keystone.

Hydro achieved his Mega Form and blasted an Aura Sphere from his back cannon. Kohaku was not in a position to counter the attack and was blasted for a lot of damage for a normally-effective hit. He got back on course, grabbed Hydro and gave the Mega Blastoise a ride. Time was on the verge of expiring as Kohaku violently threw Hydro back down to the stage.
