No, that's ALSO wrong. Reading it simply: you have 10 points to split between the stats. Ability scores, if you will. They're all at one, and given that there's five I would assume you THEN have the points to spend.

Then you get to skills and there's 15 points in total. Which makes any martial arts ability a bit awkward because every single facet of it is split between six or so skills. Anyhow, these are fifteen points spent independent of the stats points.

That's what the post describes, anyway.

hmmm....ok because I was reading it as each main stat starts with 1 and then the three subsections have ten to work with. that clears that part up

Uh... that wouldn't work for mecha at all, would it? Since I'm... assuming feet. At size 3 you basically get your bog standard gundam. Size 5 would be almost any super robot after Mazinger.

I mean, watch a few minutes of this and it should be pretty clear why that sort of scale would not work at all. xD

and damn that lagen robot is huge 0.o

I may not be the gm but I'm trying to help, not trying to be an asshole and since there is still a lack of answers to questions I'm throwing out what I think they are not what they are supposed to be.

That is literally the worst thing to do.

It's a basic question about the boundaries for the rules. Because I have a few canon ideas, and knowing the way parts are meant to work is necessary to go between accurate and accurate but too spread out and weakened. As for size, uh... it has the biggest point cost of any extra. All that matters is what the GM is expecting in each range.

Speculation does not help with either. It just makes things more confusing if it gets confused for a GM response.

Yeah I don't mean to add to the trouble, just helpful by nature. But yeah the stats are confusing me and the size ranking is confusing. I never made a CS for a stat based RP on RPG. Made characters for like DnD, Pathfinder and Paladium but I feel that this is definitely different.

Well obviously because your experience amounts to two different games.

Anyway, the rationale for my questions is actually pretty simple:

#1) Some robots have weapons--see Getter Tomahawk--that aren't used built-in. Would these be individual parts, or a subset of whatever they're composed of? Particularly, there's the cases of "the weapon is part of the body", "the weapon is stored in the body", and "the weapon is basically picked up".

#2) Without some sort of template for size, it's hard to work out where canon robots are meant to fit except on the fringe cases. xD

#3) Based on the above, if size 2 is fixed at some point but you can't buy yourself smaller, some canon robots are locked out. Which would eliminate one thing I've been thinking about. Hmm.

Wow, so many posts, so fast. I'll make one or two full example CSes, probably by tomorrow, and hopefully that should clear up some misunderstandings. I'll post a mecha real quick though since that seems to be the biggest issue.

@Jerkchicken Your skills and stats are good, though I'm not sure why you have die notation on your robot there. Your mecha seems to be built correctly, though Origin is meant to be more of a "how this mech came to be/entered the character's possession". You'll also need a concept for your character, and you should add a little explanation for each of your relationships.

@Raineh Daze Whoa there, friend, you seem like you're getting a little flustered. I'll do my best to explain things.
In order:
-A part is an abstract section of your mecha that shares a specific set of capabilities. I'll be making example characters to demonstrate, so don't worry.
-Jerkchicken's character is actually kosher
-Size categories are also abstract, much like Super Robot Wars size categories. To put it simply:
0: Human, Tekkaman, Size SS
1: Scopedog, Rideback, Size S
2: Mazinger Z, Mobile Suit, Size M
3: Bigs, Getter Robo, Size L
4: Ultraman, Most five-part combiners like Combattler, Size XL
5: Metroplex, MOGUERA, Size XXL
-I have never once seen anyone attempt to use a Size 1 or 0 for their Mecha, so I stopped including it in the rules. I mean, if you really want to play a Tekkaman or Ride Armor because you enjoy those things feel free to do so at no additional cost but I've never actually seen anyone do it for those reasons. I guess they just don't think small mechs are very cool.
-Trying to win at a cooperative storytelling system is a little boring, so maybe you should just make something you think is cool and not worry too much.
-Size actually has the exact same point cost as all other extras.

@Keyblade87 Good on you, friend. I'm here to answer any questions you have, so feel free to ask if you don't understand.

@clanjos Another quick one! Your skills and stats are good, as are your relationships. Please list your hit locations in the form of which locations they actually cover- that is to say, 1-4, 5-7, 8-10 instead of 4, 3, 3. Please also list how many points you have. Sorry, I wasn't expecting to start the game before I had gotten an example sheet together, but people seemed impatient. I'll put up a mecha example in just a minute. Until you list the point numbers, I can't really approve the robot, sorry. It's very nice, though.

@FallenTrinity To start with, you're way under budget on stats, and you're way over budget on skills. Please list your relationships and concept. You do not have to list your armaments or features, those go under hit locations as explained in the Mecha section. Size is a number from 2-5.
Also, please don't make up new rules, you're going to confuse your fellow players.

@Menhir It was late and I forgot the base 1. Bleh.

Example mecha was exactly what I needed for size. One of those examples is particularly useful.

As for buying smaller, it works the same as buying upwards, right?

Size decreases don't cost anything but they also don't give you free points either.

Well my opinion on Nono and Diebuster in general is that it's terrible on every level, utterly missed the point of Gunbuster, and had a finale that actively attempted to ruin everything that made the original Gunbuster a good show.

But if you meant "is this mechanically viable" then sure you can give it a go.

Hopefully this profile looks good. Also been thinking on making an OC-ish type character if that's fine. I have an idea for a new good (not OC) and/or evil robot (Semi-OC).
