In my past experience with the pbp medium, I've just done init as it normally comes up, although I would have my players do this as part of their first post of the encounter. the same would hold true for attack and damage rolls, although saving throws would have to be done reactively.

Don't worry about the dice slowing things down too much. It will a little, but once we get into the groove of it, it should flow naturally. It's only a minor inconvenience at worst.

Alright, so to everyone your post schedule is fine. If everyone posts before Monday afternoon I will try to get one up at that time. If it takes until Wednesday for everyone to get their posts up that is okay too. If I had to choose personally I would prefer everyone had their posts in by Tuesday evening - this is to suggest that everyone begin moving down the stairs in their final posts for Tuesday evening. This is so that I can post Wednesday morning after I get off work. If this is possible. If not, well I suppose we can't cry over spilled milk.

Initiative

As for initiative - I want everyone to post an initiative roll in their post before they head down the stairs. This will be used for the first battle. Subsequently, at least for this particular chapter/quest we will roll initiative after every battle subsequent to the first. So that way I know how to post with little confusion which is to suggest that if everyone is going to attack before the enemy - I will be able to adequately describe the situation and the setting without throwing attacks out of order from the initiative. I hope this is okay with everyone - because I think it will work best. But if it fails to work well this time around we can obviously change it in the future if everyone sticks around for the next chapter.

Not my best work, but the most I could do on a small screen and with very limited time. My apologies.

Just a friendly reminder, I would like to be able to post on Wednesday morning to progress this thread along. Should any one of you have anything else further to add please do so before Wednesday morning. Unless I hear otherwise, I cannot really think of a reason that five days should not be enough time to get a sufficient post in. If anyone has any questions or comments please let me know. It is my intention to move into the "dungeon" on in the next round.

I just posted before Harbinger; I don't have anything very significant to add.

The only matter I am curious to is if the phrase "Weary eyes, the wolf strikes." is a common or unusual saying among elves and if the language being spoken indeed is that of elves. Mostly because the character I am playing should have some general knowledge of them and their culture as well as proficiency in their language, nothing too specific otherwise.

@Yamazaki

That's understandable. I just prefer to be able to exploit the free time that I have. I won't be returning to work for roughly the next 58 hours or so. But I understand. Writer's broke can be difficult sometimes.

[@Harbinger of Ferocity] @Aristo @Yamazaki

On that note, I'm going to get a post up in the next hour or two. I would prefer to be able to post against on Friday morning in rougly 48 hours. I know this is a tall order to ask of you all but... it would be nice. But if it can't happen that is okay too. So - let's see what kind of masterpiece I can come up with.

One final note, this post is a result of three things. First, I worked last night from 7 to 7 and I'm terribly tired despite how hard I was trying to stay awake. I'm also experience a bit of writer's block, most likely due to the lack of sleep. Finally, DMing over the internet through play by post is a new thing for me. So I'm sorry to disappoint.

No need to worry, @ELGainsborough. Although we will ceraintly see what Kerris does, I did the most I could with my turn and the animal companion. If it comes to swords, it was going to come to swords anyway at this rate.

You are doing just fine, dude. But I feel your pain in the work end of things - I had to pull a 12-hour closing shift, followed by an opening shift the other day. Retail sucks...

Alright, so here is the deal. I am going to give @Aristo one more day to post. Wednesday morning, Eastern Standard Time in the States I will begin working on the advancement of our D&D campaign. So if anyone has any questions or last minute rolls they would like to make or add to their post I will entertain such measures. As well as any comments, concerns, or questions - these are also welcome.

I am of firm belief that even the slightest of hesitations in posting greatly damages roleplays among the Guild. There seems to be this perception and behavior that if the activity is not kept up the topic must die out. Owing to this, I am not one to complain about you keeping this moving, @ELGainsborough.

I have lost yet another topic in recent due to this sort of instance; I would rather this one not join it due to "inactivity" on some. I have high hopes.

Well, I've begun the next round. I believe I have carried out the mechanics appropriately. I believe that the next round will require less dice mechanics on my part - hopefully. Anyway, if people miss it. Please try to keep your posts to your initiative. For example, I expect @The Harbinger of Ferocity to fight using his tiger first. That would be one post. Then I will post for Jaegar before then @Yamazaki/Keris will be able to post, and so forth. I don't mean to hold up people posting but if we keep it in order things will be a shit ton easier. So write your post if you desire just wait to post it until your turn.

Any comments, concers, or questions are very much appreciated. As I've stated perviously, this medium of D&D is very much new to me and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I will begin, withholding my post, on the grounds of a challenge that I am not attempting to bluff the elves in question owing to the fact I am not lying. I am intentionally neglecting to withhold the information that if they do choose to fight, that we are ready for them; something they can reasonably expect. Building from this, unless Jaegar explicitly goes against what seems to be the rest of the group's intent to withhold openly engaging, there shouldn't be too much issue. If you would rather they just fight us for the sake of an encounter, that is another matter altogether and I will just withdraw my claim. On another note, one positive is that the elves should only have a surprise round - their initiative (even on a 20, as initiative cannot fumble or critical) is behind that of the tiger's.

Just do let me know if it would not have made the slightest of differences, as otherwise there is no point in needlessly complicating it with editing the story.

I undertake your argument. While I do not necessarily see this as a diplomacy check on the basis that it appears to me Geraint it attempt to sow confusion into the minds of the enemies and stave off attack - I will heed your roll and agree that you have made a diplomacy check rather than my assumption that you meant a bluff check. However, my results remain unchanged. These creatures are considered hostile and a 13 just won't do it in this situation. Next time, I will bring the discussion here rather than make that assumption. That was poor DMing on my part. Once again, I chalk this up to adapting to the change in medium.

My initial response would be to say yes, it is Jaegar's desire to explicitly go against the group's intent. In elaboration for two reasons. First off, it is in his character at least during this juncture as Sander's Reach is his home and these creatures are allegedly endangering the livelihood of the people. His decisions may be quite rash during this initial dungeon crawl. Second, is a DM-move (for lack of a better term) that I suppose works better when playing at the table. When the pace begins to slow down and the party isn't exactly in the swing of things (which while you are not to blame, @Aristo and @Yamazaki are showing only minimal interest at this point) I like to move things along and bring a bit more excitement.) Typically, this can be something like a random encounter or an NPC making potentially poor decisions to move the party along for better or worse. Often times, my table top group would adapt a deck of playing cards to illicit this effect. (I.e., you've taken to long to decide or play actively pick a card and see what happens.) Something I may have to dial back in this instance, especially if it is a turn off for the group.

This is a bit of a faux pas on my fault. I agree that standard 3.5 does not account for a nat 20 or nat 1 on an initiative roll. However, something I should have mentioned in the beg poinning, a nat 20 or nat 1 is always a pass or fail respectively regardless of modifiers. So a nat 20 during the initiative check is automatically number 1 on the list. Subsequently, a 1 on any check is always a fail. On another note, such rolls typically have additional positive or negative effects on the situation. For example, if a PC rolls a nat 20 on a disguise check the results may include that the disguise works so well that a debt is repaid to that player or a smith's journeyman mistakenly delivers some sort of special weapon to the PC.

However!!!! Because of my own misstep I will abide by the standard 3.5 rules for this encounter. The tiger will fight first. Because the elves have not hit anyone, it won't really interfer with anything. So I won't be changing my post at all. But just know that in the future nat 20's and nat 1's mean something in this adventure. With the exeption of the initiative rolls - if nat 20s or 1s are rolled subsequent in this encounter I will treat them as I typically do - we will just ignore the initiative portion for now.

Sorry for the confusion.

I expected as much in all honesty - random group of elves immediately leaping to combat at first indicated threat so the party does not feel bored - but not just there, just general styles of play and houserules, as with all 1s being failures and 20s being successes. Character motivations aside of course; Jaegar not having the same intent and willfully posing a threat I cannot comment on as we are not too sure who he is, let alone all others involved. No one "knows" the other quite yet.

That said, @ELGainsborough, I will state that Geraint is not a deceiver and while I do intend to try to talk down or out of threat with his abilities, I do not intend to do so by lies. Abstaining from sharing the whole truth? Certainly, but I chose the path of Good and honesty via the Honesty traiy for him - he would answer that he belives the others will follow suit in this case. That is all just for future consideration.

This all said and worked out, I will post the animal companion's reaction shortly - being about as pleasant as you can imagine a defensive, now threatened tiger to be.

@Yamazaki's readied action should be set off all the same now however, @ELGainsborough. Either way, I will be drafting the tiger's post. It will be attacking the nearest, obvious threat of the elves.
