Evidently you have. The Specialist roles are firmly defined in the list of available roles and none of them use a rocket launcher in their line of work. The Chastener does not use it as a tool of torture, I should think, and I doubt the Verispex Adept has any use for it during a crime scene investigation, etc etc. Specialist gear is not a catch-all term that refers to anything not covered by the primary, secondary or tertiary equipment lists, it is the gear necessary for the Specialist roles to carry out their duties. The little blurbs of information next to each Specialist role outline what kind of gear that can be.

And seriously, what does a law enforcement officer need a rocket launcher for? This is a Hive World, not a warzone.

While that is true, at some point these things just become impractical. That's why I created the Armoury list and the well-defined list of available roles, both Arbitration and Specialization, and the kind of gear they use. This RP is a little less free-form and a little more (just a tad) like the Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader roleplaying games. I don't bother with stat points or long lists of traits or complex dice rolls but I do aim to streamline the character creation process a bit and set a few hard limits here and there.

It seems I was right to do so, since it seems people can and will come up with (admittedly creative, but) inappropriate gear choices for the kind of setting I'm envisioning. I don't blame you, mind. It's only natural.

EDIT: Glad you've grasped the concept now. Looking forward to your character sheet. My own sheet should be coming along shortly.

So, @Hank I'm going to have a chastener who worked as part of an Inquisitors retinue for a decade or two. Because of this, he is well versed in these nasty abilities, and you better believe that i've got some ideas for executing them

Level ONE: Verbal. Light questioning to full blown, red faced, vein popping screams as spittle flies over the face of the heretic in (being put to) the question. No actual physical contact (spittle not included).
Level TWO: A polite verbal warning of further actions to come. Something along the lines of "TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW YOU FILTHY CHAOS FUCKING HERETIC OR I'LL BITE YOU WITH YOUR OWN INCISORS."
Level THREE: Minor physical torture (In the same way that a cigarette is a snack), followed by verbal interrogation. Usually carrying out the previous threat, and repeating level ONE.
Level FOUR: Light physical torture (In the same way that a small sandwich and a cup of coffee is a light lunch) and psychological manipulation (Preferably a repeat of level three on the loved ones of the torturee, as well as religious torment).
Level FIVE: Psychic interrogation (Now we're talking!) with light torture similar to the previous level (Maybe toss in some scarring, thumbscrews, a little minor mutilation and maiming). Yet boring verbal interrogation. The psychic interrogation is typically less than gentle, but no more severe than a moderate beating with an iron bar.
Level SIX: This is the fun part, taking psyhcological manipulation up a notch: Sensory deprivation! Except they don't toss you in a dark room if they can avoid it. Instead, they just use drugs, psychic techniques or Holy Technology to sever all your senses and leave you floating alone in the void. But don't worry, they continue to tie your body into pretzel-like shapes so you've got a healthy dose of holy pain to come back to. Sometimes they'll just toss you in a room with no food or water for a few days, or no food but filthy water for weeks instead.
Level SEVEN: Intensive psychic interrogation! This is the part where they go and find one of those unpleasant psykers, the ones who generally are viewed with disgust (and checked for possibly heresy, given that one hand is buried in their robes while they 'interrogate' you) by honest, Emperor fearing men. This is the one that leaves your mind in tatters, a ragged garment flapping in the wind. You may need a little time away from the pressures of work, study, heresy, dressing and feeding yourself after this one.
Level EIGHT: Use of drugs. Not regular drugs, or truth serums, or stuff that today would be labelled 'russian psychiatric medicine/industrial torture chemicals'. The psychic stuff that attunes your mind to a particular psychic frequency and sucks in all the pain on a planet to break you. The kind that make you think you're locked in an oubliette. The kind that put you back into sensory deprivation.. except for pain, which you feel to the maximum of your nerves ability to carry it.
Level NINE: Unrelenting torture! Usually only used if an Inquisitor has a birthday party planned, since it's easier to shoot the heretic. Torturers have endurance competitions with this one: How long can you keep them alive and sane? How long can you keep wielding the intestinal clamps before you cramp up?

@Dannyrulx So I'm assuming he became an Arbites Chastener, was recruited by an Inquisitor for their retinue, worked with them a decade or two and then returned to Aphrodus Primaris after being dismissed? That's viable.

Yeah, pretty much. An Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor, so he's aware of chaos before you ask.

Wasn't going to ask, but good to know. I think the Arbites come into contact with Chaos cults often enough that most of the player characters (save the rookies) will be at least somewhat familiar with its existence.

Would a ripper-pistol be an acceptable side-arm for an Investigator? Also I am probably not going to carry a "primary" weapon except for the massive riots, since I do not see the point of an investigator going around with one. Could he be a latent psyker as well, like discovering his limited powers as the RP goes on and trying to hide them from the team, and realising that he is not as good as a detective as he thought and was "cheating" the whole time? Or is that too snowflakey?

Due to the dangerous undercover nature of their occupation, Arbites detectives are expected to use every tool and skill available to them in their pursuit of justice. To this end, many of those chosen for duty as a detective are psykers trained by the Arbites Departmento Psionica to use their mental abilities to assist and protect them as they work their way through the ranks of the criminal elements with which they associate themselves. Due to the Imperium’s official stand on unsanctioned psykers, a psionic detective’s mental powers may even serve as an effective means of eliciting trust and interest from those groups he intends to infiltrate.

You know Adeptus Arbites actually employs psyker Detectives last I remember from the books. If they are allowed in this RP is another story. I doubt it though. Makes sense though considering their dangerous undercover ops.

Halligan Missile Launcher
The Halligan Missile Launcher is a short-ranged, armour piercing weapon specially designed for the Adeptus Arbites. It is their weapon of choice when they need to break through a heavily armoured wall or gate. The missiles it fires are capped off with a warhead specifically designed to blow through thick plascrete walls or adamantium gates.

I know real ones are employed, but I am talking about latent psychic abilities. Something inbetween the levels of a real psyker and the guys on Necromunda who are just "very lucky." Like, he would not even think that he is a psyker until a bit later; he would be an arrogant bugger flaunting about how good of a detective he is without psychic powers not knowing he is a psyker the whole time.

Investigator: The sharp mind that guides Omicron's actions in developing and following leads. Heavily cooperates with the Verispex Adepts and the Chastener in their line of work. Can potentially be a sanctioned psyker in order to divinate the truth or obtain information through supernatural means. Due to the important nature of the character, an exceptional sheet is required.

Why do you insist on seeking equipment from outside of the Armoury? Ripper pistols are Death World weapons, they have no place in this RP.

Being a latent psyker is perfectly acceptable for the Investigator role.
