I think it's pretty amazing how
@RomanAria asked to be a mod at 10 years old. It takes some serious guts. Back when I started RPing I viewed the mods as untouchable gods who by their infinite grace allow me to post in their forums without smiting me...
This also brings me to my most memorable RP moment. It was back in my childhood, probably over 15 years ago, at planetbaldursgate. The scene there had everyone make one or two "permanent" characters, and enter various "games" (or stories) with them. Somewhat like the multiplayer in Icewind Dale. There were the good guys, and the evil guys (who in retrospect were probably played by the older players). They weren't usually the villains of said stories, but they would often come to shake things up.
Oh, and I used to play a magical golem made of steel who was the only golem in existence who could use magic, because it was actually the soul of a magician trapped in animated metal. Bhaal did it, blame him. I also accidentally invented the temperature mechanic the Discworld trolls use, becoming slower and weaker when it's hot and stronger and faster when it's cold. It was kind of funny running into this years later.
Anyway, in one of these games, the vampire overlord PC named Marcello attacked, and my character stepped forth to oppose. Along the duel of posts, he cast Cone of Cold (tm) on my char. Triumphant, I said in OOC, "that's my only strength, dumbass!" And he replied, "I know."
I think it was that exact moment that I realized RPs should not be a competition or a war of words. It should be a team effort to make a great story, regardless of who the hero or the villain is. It was truly a moment of growth for me.
