-White Rabbit, Egypt Central Writing Sample:The boy clasped his hands on his head, rocking back and forth in the dark alley way he had ran off to, screaming like a madman. With eyes wide, he just kept repeating “This isn’t real, this isn’t real. It’s all a dream… just a dream...” However, it wasn’t a dream and slowly as he realized this wasn’t a dream and that despite everything, it was real. As his words became more and more maniacal and unintelligible, his mind cracked under the pressure, unable to accept this massive departure from reality.
“There’s no place like home… n-no place l-like home…” his voice cracked with desperation rising. Surely it was a dream, it had to be, there’s no way something like this could be real right? Being stuck in a game? That was all hogwash, the premise of children’s shows made by bored teenagers with MMO fantasies who dreamed in pixels. Yes, it had to be a dream, all he had to do was wake himself up. Picking himself up, the boy looked up at the darkened brick wall, yes, that wall would work perfectly.
Screaming, he slammed his head against the wall over and over, shouting at himself with insane tears rolling down his eyes as his face bloodied with each hit. Finally, he collapses, letting his forehead scrap along the rough sandpaper-like brick, crying for his mother and father, crying for the life that he would no longer be a part of. This was his life now, this game, this twisted perversion of life that was supposed to just be a simulation. With tears of angst, the boy wondered what sin must he have committed which led his fate to this, what error did he do which forced the cosmic forces to shackle him to this artificial realm.
Cosmic forces.
“O-of course…” the boy began to chuckle with an unsettling breath, “C-cosmic fo-fo-forces are behind t-this… I just n-need to l-learn them li-like V-Valorian…” As it slowly dawned on him that he was the character he once roleplayed as, the boy began to wonder how he was so foolish for not seeing it. Valorian was this aspiring wizard, seeking to control everything with the use of limitless magic and unlock all the secrets of the multiverse and realms beyond that were hiding with this epic persona of grandiose nature and booming voice; a character he created. The boy made Valorian in this “game” when it was still called one, it was obvious that now he was Valorian the Starlit Sage, he had to be right? It only made sense.
His disturbed chuckles turned into maddened laughter then into insane hysteria that echoed throughout the alley way. Still chortling over how simple it all was, the boy limped the blood off his face, eyes and mouth twitching as he staggered out of the alley with a limp, slowly melding into his new, no, his true character, he was met by a passerby, clearly worried about the chuckling and muttering that the boy was making, “Hey, mate, are you alright? What’s your name?”
“Y-yes, of course good sir I am fine.” The boy straightened up immediately upon hearing a new voice that wasn’t in his head. His posture taking on a regal (if not arrogant) stance, putting his fingers over his beating heart with his wrist poking out, “I, Valorian, the Starlit Sage of Irythil, could not be any better!”
