Recently, some old friends of mine roped me into an adventure the likes of which only occurs once every lifetime. As the fate of the world depends on the success of this adventure, I'm fairly certain we won't fail. Unless of course, we aren't the true heroes of this story. In which case...I'd rather not think about it. But either way, I am not alone in this adventure. Other adventurers had also been called upon to join the cause, and we have rallied under a title bestowed upon us by those who brought us together. The Champions of Hope. To my knowledge, this is the 1st time the rest of my fellows have heard this name. But to me, it is all too familiar.
A decade or so before the beginning of the high elves' conquest of The Crescent, there lived a man named Morton the Immortal. Morton the Immortal was a bloodthirsty warlord who sought power above all else. In his pursuit of greater power, Morton the Immortal began to conquer neighboring tribes in a bloody campaign known as The Great Subjugation. This campaign spread across the human occupied lands of The Crescent until finally, only the 10 most powerful tribes remained. These tribes came together and formed and army capable of holding back Morton's horde, but not 1 that could hold it back forever. But it was not the intention of the tribes to beat the horde. No, the army was nothing more than a distraction and a way to buy time for a group of 10 warriors to sneak around the horde and cut off the head of the snake. The greatest warrior from each of the 10 tribes made up this group, and together they made it past Morton's horde and traveled all the way to the warlord himself. Although 4 of the 10 warriors were felled during the battle, the warriors ultimately overcame Morton the Not-So-Immortal, cut his head clean off his shoulders and brought an end to The Great Subjugation.
Upon their return, the 6 remaining warriors were hailed as heroes and were dubbed The Champions of Hope. And so peace returned to The Crescent...For about a decade. After that, the high elves began their campaign to unify The Crescent under their rule. But as the old saying goes, that's a story for another day.
