When Apothos fell into ruin during the Eternal Eclipse, known civilization was swallowed whole by unimaginable horrors never seen before and fierce eldritch storms ruthlessly tore the planet apart. Before the scattered Cardinal Races would be annihilated, they created a massive vessel-city that would sail into the sky to avoid the destruction. It was risky to dare pass into the Ocean of Ashe, the violent tempestial mass that now overtook the skies, but it was the only chance they had. The ship was fitted with the strongest arcane barriers they could muster in a hurry, and the population departed only hours after for this desperate exodus. If only there was a happy tale to tell of this journey. The hull of the vessel-city was already breached in moments upon entering the swirling mass and countless were pulled into the sundering maw of the sky-ocean as the ship was ripped piece by piece. By the time they were able to escape the swirling jaws, only fragments of the massive vessel remained intact. The gigantic aircraft, once the size of an entire city, had been reduced to that of a shambling hamlet of shredded metal and wire. Anchoring high above the atmosphere, like a glimmering crown in the darkness, the survivors breathed a sigh now that their journey was finally over. For the moment, while bathed in the precious beams of light from the golden sun on the horizon, they were able to forget the violence and malice of the dying planet below.
But the survivors were soon made to face a grim reality. They suffered too many losses to infrastructure to continue their plans of settling smoothly in this new home. What was left of the ruling authority made a difficult decision. To preserve the power reserves of the damaged arcane-core, the inhabitants were all placed in a deep asleep to await the time when the apocalyptic storms settled. When the time comes, they must return to face their old sins, to reclaim their shattered world.
Ages have long passed now and the first of these people have begun to awake, heeding their fateful call. But things are not what they expected. Will they be able to accept their new destiny? Rules: 1. Basic RPG site rules apply. 2. My word is law on an outcome of an event, as this roleplay is meant to emphasize consequences and rewards based on actions. This is purely objective and by no means will I do something out of spite. I am willing to be reasoned with if you think something was unfair, but I do not tolerate whining or raging. ((So it can be on record now. There is no plot armor in this RP. I will give a few hints that what a character is doing may end up endangering them, but nothing more.)) 3. Don't be a wanker. 4. Have fun.
After-Word:
Greets, and welcome to a short synopsis of this post-apocalyptic fantasy roleplay of mine. I am happy you have made it this far! Now, this is where I have to do a bit of explaining. I have been formulating this setting painstakingly over the months, pulling my hair out fine-tuning the plot and working with difficult themes in order to make an interesting story full of mystery and deep emotions. I finally think this work is worthy of allowing players and myself to enjoy a deeper roleplaying experience with notable progression and consequences to choices, such as offering a clear goal for the cast to achieve. As such, I'm afraid this is not entirely casual and I will only accept experienced people, or at the very least, those who show me they put in extra effort. A common misconception is post length determines whether someone is casual or advanced. In my opinion, it does not matter. They can range from a few sentences to large paragraphs, but I look most for quality of the post above all. How concise the ideas are and how well they paint the narrative. I'm not sure how many people I will accept, but I plan on having a small cast, perhaps only a handful of players. I have seen how cluttered and impersonal interaction can quickly get when too many people try to do different things at once. It makes people feel like they matter less when so many things happen at once without them. I want this to be an intimate and fulfilling story, so there will be a focus on a few flesh-out characters.
As a side note; a few notable things I drew inspiration from in making this roleplay are Final Fantasy, Shadow of the Colossus, Ergo Proxy, and the Dark Souls series. If you enjoy any of those titles, then feel free to check this one out.
With all that being said, thanks for giving me your time! :^D
Character Skeleton:
(This sheet is left bare-bones since your character will start with essentially nothing and will learn and acquire things such as items and weapons later on. A lot of information regarding the backstory and history of the world is left missing on purpose. Very much, this aspect is inspired by the Souls series, exploring and discovering an old world and creatively dealing with problems given limitations. You might have already noticed that there is no place to put any sort of magical powers. This is also on purpose, since no one will be able to use the olden methods of magic at the beginning. This will come as a great shock to your characters. An explanation with be given IC. Don't worry, there will be opportunities to 'unlock' this trait once again.)
Name/Title: Race: All characters will be Human until further notice.
Gender: Appearance:
Significant Memory: All characters will have amnesia when they awaken, forgetting everything of their past, save for vague glimpses of things 'important to them'. Maybe it's just a name, or is it a place? It could even be an idea. Best to just keep it short and simple. Without true identities, characters would only have these comforts, or traumas, to help define themselves. These lost pasts will play a large part in the narrative and tone of this setting. A few examples: a soldier who feels obliged to honor his duty despite the empire they once served no longer existing, or a confused child terrified by a nightmare they keep having. Feel free to be creative and if you need any help, just ask me any questions.
(This mechanic will take the place of the usual 'History and Personality' portion of this sheet. Because I find it very boring to read through a long-winded background without any context, I opted for another method. I also felt it would feel much more dynamic and interesting exploring this aspect in-character through lack of knowing. Since no one can just go into someone's sheet and skim through their bio to know beforehand how anyone would react, this leaves a mystery to both the player and character, thus making character interaction have more meaning and surprise. That said, feel free to brew up drama. I encourage it.)
Other: Whatever extraneous details you want to include.
Race: All characters will be Human until further notice.
There are three one inch long scars maybe a centimetre apart perfectly horizontal to each other on her left shoulder blade. She's maybe 5' 3" and has a quite sultry voice.
Significant Memory: Her only memory is of a cottage with a wheel barrel in front of it. Someone is speaking in a careful and gentle voice softly but the words are unclear. This memory brings both warmth and sadness for unknown reasons to Elizabeth.
Here's what I've got for you. I'm not sure if it's what you had in mind.
I'm really excited for this concept though, it's nice to find an RP with some depth to it.
That's perfect, short and simple. Go ahead and post it in the characters. I plan on taking a surplus right now since most RPs have a high drop-out rate as is, and I'm sure mine is no exception. I hope you stick around. :^)
Here to express interest by submitting a character!
Name/Title: Eugene Race: I'm human
Gender: Male Appearance:
Significant Memory: I feel...angry...frustrated. I was part of something bigger, and now it's all gone. No, I don't mean my family, or the world...it was something else. Something specific, I think we had some sort of acronym...yeah, the APF. We had it written on signs and arm-bands. I...I remember feeling so much anticipation, excitement, fear, love...and I wasn't alone. But what's killing me is I can't remember any names, any faces...I can't even remember what we were doing exactly, just how I felt about it. About us. And that acronym.
Other: I have this little device on my ear. I think it's supposed to do something, and for some reason my mind tells me that since both my eyes still work, the ear thing oughtta work too. But I don't hear anything from it, not even static.
You're accepted, post the sheet in the characters. I don't know how well I can incorporate his memory into the lore, but I'll try to work something in.
Significant Memory: Everett Prachter could single out one memory from the fog of amnesia although the memory itself was a blur, distant and misty like a dream. In this dream of sorts, Everett stood in the center of a vacant, decrepit place of worship. A wind swirled around Everett as he approached an altar in a room where a shallow pool covered the ground. A sigil appeared, drawn in light in the air above the altar, and then Everett's vision is filled with white. Thus was the end of the memory, and Everett could recall nothing else.
Significant Memory: Two things always seem to conflict within him; A resentful ease at taking orders and running. He was helpful to a fault, doing whatever is asked of him to the point of doing the jobs no one else wanted to do. This obviously made a manner of mental pressure that he blew off any time he went faster than a jog. Something about exerting himself and the wind over his face let him mellow out the pressures.
I want to ask, what sort of technology do we have present here? Since this is both sci-fi and fantasy I imagine that there is both magic and advanced technology am I correct?
The reason I ask is because I want to make a soldier here, but I need to know what equipment was common for a soldier to have.
It was common for most of the races to employ melee weapons, since the Cardinal's powerful magic allowed for superhuman ability. It would just be more practical to use enchanted swords or something because they could just use magic to overcome more primitive arms like those of bullets. Most of the time, warriors were given weapons that simply amplified their abilities or magic. Humans were the only exception, being that they developed weaponry that utilized highly concentrated aether due to Alchemy. With their sprawling factories, they were able to mass-produce these devastating firearms. Their soldiers would be less specialized and trained, but they would be able to quickly replace lost units at an unmatched pace. The Imperial airships or war-machines were especially feared, which would be armed with arc-cannons or something of the sort. These large batteries discharged overwhelming amounts of aether capable of leveling an entire region with a single shot.
In short, you are correct, there are both types, but technology also relied on magic.
Much of the old magical knowledge has been lost in the destruction of the world. But there are ways to perhaps uncover some of the things you mentioned back. "Haste" is a relatively simple thing, so it wouldn't be the problem of knowing it, but being able to use it. Naturally, possessing magic and gaining more power is adjoined to growing the 'Soul' for the Cardinals. Most of the character have lost their touch to their magic, but will be given a chance to recover it. Quite early on, in fact. Though, in this roleplay, as I have stressed, everything has a consequence, even benefits are not always so clear. I have to warn, all magic leaves a lasting mark within a person because it relies on the push of darker emotions. Such as turning into a beast, would require someone to forgo their logical thoughts and embrace primal instinct.
Even for just a short while, they might not be able resist the call of the wild. And funny you should mention that, because there is actually a Cardinal race in the roleplay whom were shapeshifters.
Yeah, there is still room. I plan on accepting more than intended due to the fact that I know a large majority people will probably drop out around the beginning. It's just the nature of these things, so it's best to have a surplus. :^D
Geno stands an even six feet tall, with an equally healthy posture. He is neither muscular nor lean, weighing in at 160lbs. He dresses casually in a blank t-shirt underneath a wind-breaker, and jeans with weather-proof boots. He wears gloves almost religiously, refusing to remove them even when inside or in warm environments.
Memory Geno's only memory is fractured, split apart in flashes and moments of the picture that fail to piece it all together. Muted voices come from empty faces that rest on the shoulders of white-robed figures. Some flickering thoughts depict him in similar cloth, conversing with them but never recalling what was said. Others are dim, cramped, with eldritch and alien texts surrounding him. Each fragment is separate, but culminate in a final moment, a bright flash, voices silently shouting in pain and horror, and a searing sensation that stings his palms.
Other Geno's palms are heavily scarred, in what looks to be combinations of burning, lacerations, and simply distortion of the skin. These marks are the only proof he has that his memories aren't some hallucination. Seeing or thinking of the damage to his hands brings forth the searing pain that stalks his memory.
Name/Title: Gwendolyn Race: Human (until further notice?)
Gender: Female
( Found through google images on deviantart by dashinvaine.)
Significant Memory:
Warm, smiling faces, she thinks her mom and dad but isn't quite sure. The women shares her golden hair. They're laughing together and having fun.
The amnesia sets in again then she recalls the two lying on the cold ground as if asleep, red all around, and something like a metal collar around her neck.
Other: Can sing, scar marks and imprints from could have been a metal collar remain on her neck
Here's my entry. I'm also really excited for this role-play. Looks like it will be a fascinating experience.
Ah, my mistake, seems like I missed you. All's in order, I will graciously accept it as well. And yes, until further notice. Be careful where your curiosity might take her. > u >;;

Side Note:
I will be giving this another day or so while we allow people from the Interest to catch up or post their status on whether they intend to participate before I start the IC.
