Across the world and across time, rifts in space-time have begun to appear. These massive eye-shaped portals have spawned exotic creatures who terrorize innocents, demanding servitude. However, brave heroes are rising up, using these portals, known universally as "Outrealm Gates", to transcend time and space and unite with other valiant men and women to drive back this otherworldly threat.
You have been recruited to the cause, brought from your homeland and time to a gloriously decorated Ylisstol in the heart of the United Halidom of Ylisse. It is a time of union for the continent of Archanea, ruled by the legendary Hero King's own granddaughter, Helia. As you are escorted to the great palace, a vibrantly dressed woman with navy-blue hair comes into view, perched atop a lofty balcony where all can see her. She is flanked by two spear-wielding guards in noble dress, and behind her stands a priest whose head is bowed as he holds out his staff, muttering words in an ancient language as the Barrier Staff in his hand resonates with energy. Throughout the courtyard, you begin to become more aware of the rather large number of wary soldiers with varying weapons, all appearing ready to spring into action should any unwelcome attackers appear.
"Beautiful, isn't she?" the knight escorting you asks, gesturing to the regal woman. "That's her, Exalt Helia. Not a better queen in all of history, I'd reckon. None more beautiful, either." The knight stops short of a growing crowd of what appears to be ragtag soldiers-for-hire. Some look experienced, garbed with breastplates and the like and covered with calloused scars, while others seem to be peasants outfitted in makeshift armor of pots and pans.
"You'll be with them," the knight explains. "You, along with the Knights of Ylisse, will be forming a new army from our combined ranks. Thought I heard the name 'Shepherds' being tossed around, but then again, that might have been just talking about some of these kids' past employment. Sure hope you hold up with that bravery we saw before. We'll need it to fight off those Outrealm Demons. Anyway, you run along and make some friends. You'll probably be seeing these men--er, and women, I s'pose--quite a bit in your travels."
With that, the knight turns and leaves you, joining the other Knights of Ylisse at the watch, keeping a close eye on a distant Outrealm Gate that seems to stare eerily back, its cobalt gaze aimed right for Exalt Helia.
(Sorry I couldn't find a suitable pic for Marth's granddaughter, Helia. Working on it.)
Welcome to the Fire Emblem - Dimensions Open Beta! I have spent almost a year and a half struggling to design a Tabletop System that could properly emulate the Fire Emblem video game series, and now, I believe I have achieved this; all that remains is to test it with those brave enough to test your luck with such a strange entity, much like the heroes you will be playing.
This game, unlike many Tabletop systems out there, runs on a d100 (or d%, if you'd rather) system. In fact, the 2 d10 (one to serve as a 1's place and one to serve as a 10's place) are all you need in terms of dice. Of course, you will also likely need a calculator, as though I will try to remove as much of the calculating you will have to do as possible, there will still be certain elements I cannot accommodate ahead of time. These are mostly Terrain, Weapon Triangle, and Support Bonuses that I cannot calculate into your Character Sheets. Instead, these have to be applied on a battle-by-battle basis. (For immobile enemy bosses, however, I will calculate Terrain bonuses into their Avoid rate ahead of time to simplify things a bit.)
So why do we only use the d100? Simple. As stated above, my goal was to emulate Fire Emblem as closely as I could. That meant no randomized damage. However, in so doing, the dice are rolled a minimum of 2 times per attack (once for Hit and once for Critical, exceptions being for 100% rates in one or the other), with variance in the number of rolls based on certain factors. A list of all possible factors will be found below.
For the majority of details regarding this Tabletop System, you can follow the large link above which reads "System Details - Google Spreadsheet", or the link that is almost always found in my signature beside the "Fire Emblem - Chalice of Dreams" header. To navigate the sheets, check the bottom of your window. There SHOULD be tabs for navigation, though some browsers apparently will block these by default somehow (according to some people I've spoken to). However, this process should be reversible, as everyone who initially saw them as being blocked has seemingly easily un-blocked it. This system includes elements for fans from all groups. For older fans, they will find that Weapon Durability (Dur) and Weight (Wt) exist in this. Also, many skills from the Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn games are seeing some action. For newer fans, the Pair Up system returns, and this time, like in Fates, enemies can benefit from it. (You may even find that some enemies have Support Levels built up) There are also Skills found in this system which newer fans can relate to as well.
The branching Class Tree from Gaiden, Sacred Stones, Awakening, and Fates also appears, though newer fans may be disappointed to find that the Second Seal does not appear on the items list. This is because you are creating your own character. You can choose whatever class you like. You don't need the Second Seal to become the class you want your character to be, so I saw little reason or place for it. If someone can give me a good enough reason to include it, I might think about it, but until then, it is non-existent in this system.
For the sake of this beta test, I have limited the use of certain classes that you may find hidden in the Spreadsheets. This ban also includes all promotional items that are not a Master Seal.
Please note that one of the tags I have placed on this RP is "Casual". As a result, I would like for players to give more effort to their posts than simply placing what was rolled on the dice and what tile their unit moved to. Give some narration and flare to your posts. Help bring this story to life with your writing. :)
As of the moment, the "Casual Mode" found in newer games will be considered "Off". This means death is a very real threat for your characters. Any objections, please voice them and we will take a vote.
Currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant GM. I have much to do in real life, and as a result, I can't keep my eyes on this thread 24/7. Understand that being an Assistant GM means you are essentially me when I'm away. This means you should know what to look for in an acceptable Character Sheet, and be willing and able to step into the shoes of the NPCs when necessary, as well as lead the group and push turn order when in the middle of a Chapter (mission).
Turn Order =/= Post Order. Post Order kills RPs. Turn Order is simply the order in which characters and armies take their turns moving. This will be decided by an "Initiative Roll" at the beginning of each chapter. More on this will be explained when the IC is posted. Simply keep a fair number of posts between each of your own. Usually 2 or 3 is best.
Otherwise, simply follow the typical rules of RPing, and by all means, have some fun! :) That's what we're here for, right? If you have ANY questions or suggestions, PLEASE voice them. I am open to criticism. There's even been a few instances of someone asking what the purpose in something is. I'm human, I make mistakes, and I forget details, and because of suggestions, I've seen a few of the shortcomings of the system already and have made steps to fixing it. Remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question, and if it seems like something that you don't want to ask publicly, feel free to send me a PM. I'd rather you ask and figure out what's going on than miss something or me forget a detail and you be lost.
Happy Roleplaying! :)
