"In my hand is a small badge with the ability to damn billions to their deaths and yet this weapon is to never see an open battle.
For us Inquisitors fight a war against shadows, in the shadows, and born of shadows; glory is not part of the job description."

"Chasing the one known as Kartez Korhallen is the greatest test I have ever faced; but my soul is armored in faith. The Imperial Creed guides me, banishing all doubt or regret. The Emperor stands with us and I have felt the purity of his righteousness. I have witnessed his glory burn away the darkness. I have seen the Imperium's indomitable ferocity unleashed upon its many enemies. I saw courage and valor displayed in his most honorable name. I bear witness to the unwavering loyalty which he inspires. No fortress can stand against his fury, no fury, his protection, no corruption, his light. There is no curse which he cannot sunder for his glory shines to those who embrace his ideals.

Everything I have done, sacrificed, preformed, investigate and committed has been in his name to protect his Imperium but now I have failed. I beg for repentance but I have not the breath for it but I do wish to note that he has lead me to all of my actions. I can only pray to him that my apprentice can take up my mantle and continue my work. My time is near but her's is just beginning. My child, if you ever find this, I am sorry I have left you with precious little for you to work with but as of now, I ordain you an official servant of his majesty; thou are now an Inquisitor of your own right. The appropriate officials have already been contacted. Please, hunt down this vile slave of Chaos... for me... for the Imperium... for the Empero––"
Dying breath of Inquisitor Karthis moments before his ship was destroyed

While the Imperial Guard and the Adeptus Astartes may fight in glorious open battle with songs sung to their names, you have been gathered for a very different type of war. Not one which requires you to charge a bunker head on or drop from orbit in glorified metal box (under ideal circumstances), but one which requires a more inquisitive eye and a more specialized skill set.

In case you haven't figured it out by now, this is a 40k RP based around an Inquisitor and their retinue taking nod from the Dark Heresy RPG game and @The Emperors Blade's brilliant RP which inspired all of this which you can see here. So in a way all credit goes to him for this. That said, I'm not nearly as well versed in the at of GMing real tabletop games, nevermind Dark Heresy so there will be obvious differences and I am going to have to ask for forgiveness for any derps I may make. That said, I will be attempting to mimics DH is some limited form.

As to what you (the players) will be playing, everyone will be part of an inquisitorial retinue lead by an Inquisitor played by one of you (the role is still up in the air as to who has final confirmation,I have an idea of who might be it but they have yet to confirm it so its anyone's game really). I'm only allowing humans in this so no you cannot play your half-squat-half-felined OC or whatever. To that end I'm also prohibiting Space Marines and Officio Assassinorum members. Without going into indepth rules here: basic RPG rules apply, I'm a benevolent hardass GM as most of you should know by now, do keep anything heated strictly to IC and don't be a jerk who attempts to powerplay/godmod. That's my job as GM jackass >T

REVISION: You can play anything you want but will have to be approved democratically by the other members of the RP including the Inquisitor; I the GM am completely detached from beyond voicing opinions that are strictly my opinions and not changes you must make.

In regards to writing, this should be about High Casual in that I'm looking for players who can write 2-3 paragraphs at least and have a level of maturity and understanding of how to write a good collective story instead of trying to constantly do their own thing. As to number of players, I'm looking for a handful of people like 4-5 with the Inquisitor included at max. If there's more then who will be accepted will be discussed between me and the Inquisitor.

If you are interested then simply post below and state what you're thinking of playing!

This game interests me, but I have a couple of things to point out.

1. To the best of my knowledge, WH40K fans are generally better about "hybrid OCs" than a lot of other fandoms. I've never seen, well, any human mutant hybrid in any 40K RPs I've participated in, and I do wonder if banning all abhuman races is a smart move considering this relative sensibility. Then again, there's not many Ogryns likely to qualify for Inquisitorial duties, but psykers are technically mutants despite being physically normal humans otherwise, so I'm not sure how they'll be handled.

2. Following the above technicality, Blanks are also physically normal humans. Soooooo...?

@BCTheEntity I'm not banning all abhumans, only the squats and the felinids really. I'm still allowing for Ogryns and Ratlings (although as you said, Ogryns would basically only be there for muscle and or comedic relief so you'd have to write something damn impressive to actually convince me). Beastmen I'm actually on the fence about but I'm going to label it as a no unless you impress me extremely damn well.

As for psykers and blanks, they are perfectly acceptable provided that you RP them properly and we don't end up with a retinue full of them.

@ClocktowerEchos I'm almost tempted to argue that Beastmen are less likely to be in the Inquisition than Felinids, just because in present canon (if they still exist at all) Beastmen are not utilised by Imperial forces for being seen as mutants, and so most of them are more likely to serve Chaos if anybody. That said, Squats don't exist anymore have never existed what is a Squat what are those, and Felinids originate from a single planet with no given appearance, and really none of that affects me in the first place, so either way.

Having said all that, prepare for a Blank. At some point.

@BCTheEntity I'm more or less basing the possibility of Beastmen over Felinids on the fact there has been a case of a canon mutant inquisitor:

That said, I do not really recommend playing an abhuman/mutant beyond a ratling/psyker/blank so ideally this shouldn't be too much of an issue (the entire mentioning of the Felinids-Squat hybrid was more of a joke than anything.

Anyways, thanks for expressing interest. ^^

Aye, count me in!
Will most likely go with a Guardsmen background, more specific an noble-officer, with a rather social tweak, rather then a "pure" fighter.

@ClocktowerEchos

Here's something i cooked up, read and critique pls.
Before i write something about the specifics of psychic powers, could you please first explain me some stuff?
Should i describe specific powers or just broadly describe him as a telekine or powerful biomancer?
How many powers should i have?
How many "schools" of power can i practice?
How will you judge if and when i summon psychic phenomena or perils? I'd like to emphasize that in my imagination, this guy is recruited primarily not thanks to EXTREME psychic powers, but due to stability of his manifestations and the great and terrible feat he fulfilled in the course of mentioned daemonic incursion, which signified just how badass he is at being faithful and strong-willed. Oh, and of course because his bones are worth a fortune in Malleus money and are connected to a mysterious prophecy of sorts.
Also sorry for run-on sentences.

Oh and yes, just to be sure - do you use the new DEEPEST LORE in this game? You know, the one where Cadia has fallen n shit and Guilliman is wide awake and leading Ultramarines once again.

Nobody will get along with a soulless husk of a person that makes everyone he talks to want to kill themselves. Pariahs are the worst thing for role-playing anything except snarky misanthropes like Ravenor's Frauka or pitiful attention-starved people who just don't know what they are doing wrong.

You have little to no knowledge of how to play a psyker do you?

Your average human psyker (lets go with a Primaris Psyker from the IG) will only have two powers from one school: a primaris and something else of your own choosing. A "level 2" Primaris would know two powers of their choosing and the primaris but still only be within one school. Realistically for this RP, I say stick to two simpler powers.

I will be controlling if psykers peril and whatnot under the basis that more strenuous/complicated abilities have a larger chance to peril. I do not believe if the Imperium cares about stability as that is not part of the scale on which they grade, its simply upon their power. "Stability" is attributed more to strong will or pure luck.

I am denying your character because I can sense that you do not meet the standards I'm looking for. You are telling me straight up of how much of a badass he is with little subtly or finesse to try and get people to think of him like that instead of creating something which allows people to independently judge his abilities and come to their own conclusions. I am expressly against his "connection to a mysterious prophecy" because I have seen it used too many times by inexperienced writers and RPers.

You have far too much wargear than what is needed for a psyker of an Inquisitorial retinue and honestly gives me the impression you want to make sure you are "always prepared". A spyrer suit? Camo cloak? A psyhic hood? Fully kitted out armor and helmet? Seriously?
Your formatting is also terrible on the eyes and I cannot understand why you have the "36/28 Years" thing going on. What does that slash and two different numbers mean? This is not mentioning your self proclaimed run on sentences and your apparent inability to not create walls of text and breaking them up.

Also, daemonic possession doesn't happen to a psyker on a regular basis unless they are a daemon host or actively using their power. At most your character would hear more chaotic whisperings and such, even in the Warp unless daemons actually got on to the ship and started fucking with him directly. Of which brings me to my next point as why the hell do you have a female geisha as the character image of a MALE character? There is nothing in your CS that I can see which supports that.

As such, if it wasn't clear enough at this point, your character is being denied.

@Keksalot There are ways and ways of minimising the aura of "reality itself wants to kill you" a Pariah emits. And you missed the sarcasm in my post, by the way.

@ClocktowerEchos
Well, it seems I have misunderstood the overall power levels and inspirations sources of the game.

From the description I've concluded that the majority of inspiration comes from the Dark Heresy rather than the tabletop wargame, where psykers work decidedly differently, having a shitton of powers bought from up to three or even four disciplines at even medium levels of power (in an acolyte-level game), not counting about a dozen minor powers gained as they buy up Psy Rating.

From you saying that the players are supposed to be members of the inquisitorial retinue rather than simple acolytes I have also reasoned that you expected us to play as Ascension-level Agents of the Throne, who have all the reasons, authority and prestige required for having the (actually very modest) described set of wargear to carry into actual battles as opposed to more discrete and careful investigations carried out on, say, Imperial worlds. You can also notice that a spyrer suit is not included into said wargear, being mentioned only in his background.

As to badassery - without any mockery or irony, excuse me for unreasonably assuming that it, together with a background involving some truly heroic and unusual feats is a given considering that the character in question was assumed to be a member of inquisitorial retinue.

Pertaining to the male geisha fact - yes, dude looks like a lady. If that is a decidedly unacceptable detail for your game, please excuse me for including it.

Would you allow me to properly edit and remake the sheet to make it more fitting for your requirements and re-apply?

@Keksalot I probably should have mentioned that because I don't have a grasp on DH, I'm using normal TT as a basis so my bad on that aspect.

As to the "badass requirement", there is no need for any of the sort. I have said it in the CS that there's more than just combat characters in a retinue. You have priests, local guides, scribes, enginseers, medical people, etc all of which who are in a retinue. Using the Eisenhorn series as a base, his own retinue in Xenos consisted of a skilled pilot, an info addicted scribe, an astropath, a grizzled arbites, some underhive ganger and a blank who was a call girl; none of which I suspect are "badasses" in a combat sense that I'm thinking of. In fact, you could say that I'm using the Eisenhorn books as an outline and you wouldn't be too far off. I very much despise the "team of badasses" trope in this case since this isn't an A-Team styled RP, you will be doing non-combat things which Inquisitors often do most of the time.

As for your picture, its not the fact that you have a geisha image for a guy that I do not approve of, its more of the fact that you picked a rather out there image without any explanation as to why anywhere in your CS.

I will allow you to remake your sheet assuming you can make a more reasonable character with a better formatted and clearer CS. HOWEVER, if someone else manages to make a psyker that I deem more acceptable then they will be given preference although Muse will still be given final say on who gets in the retinue in the end. I suggest that you take your time and not bungle this opportunity. Have I made myself clear on all of this?

Ey, don't diss Team A, they had Face who was a master of social interactions and charm.

That being said, I am interested, even though a game where character power is based on TT stats sounds a bit weird.

Would you still allow one to make characters based on Dark Heresy lore and information as long as it does not pertain to psykers?

I've a desire to make an "Assassin Temple Initiate" - a person that is not a full-fledged agent of Assassinorum but rather an inquisitorial servant who, for his prowess and capability was sent over to one of the Temples, usually Vindicare, to undergo often lethal and straining but extremely effective training that produces something between a true assassin and a normal mortal combatant, a result that satisfies both the Temple and the Ordos.

In DH, they get Unnatural Characteristics, which are roughly equivalent to FNP 5+ or maybe better, extremely heightened strength on par with unarmoured Space Marines, speed and agility great enough to keep up with eldar and a special trait that allows them to dodge literally anything, be it a stomp of a Titan, a massive explosion or an utterly unexpectable invisible psychic attack, at GM's discretion. That plus a quality ripoff of Exitus firearms and Vindicare masks.

Of course, chances are this would be disallowed just like the "actual" members of Assassinorum are.

In that case I'd like to try and make an Adeptus Mechanicus Factor - basically a PR specialist engineered by the best and brightest minds of Mars to socially influence the meatbags of all sorts and look and act humane and amiable in order to facilitate proper relationships. All while being a more than competent techpriest himself, of course.

@Eyeruption

I'm also prohibiting Space Marines and Officio Assassinorum members.
From the OP

Again, I probably should not have said that this is DH-inspired since it seems to be giving a lot of people the wrong idea of what I'm trying to do. I am not going to allow Officio members because from what I've seen thus far in the lore and in previous encounters, they tend not to do much beyond shoot/kill/main people.

Your AdMech idea is something I'm more receptive too although I have to ask, why a PR specialist specially made for the job? Why not instead someone like a Biologis who a better understanding of human behavior than most? I just don't see a reason as to why Mars would want to send a PR specialist into the Inquisition or why they joined a retinue to begin with; I feel like they'd be more at home doing diplomatic work on behalf of the Omnissiah in the Imperial Government rather than being thrown about in Inquisitorial duties.

@ClocktowerEchos I am beginning to realise how strict you're being about character creation, which has me worrying slightly about whether my idea is acceptable. So, it bears asking before I actually do anything else: what's a reasonable age for an Acolyte, or more specifically a proto-Acolyte? Because my plan was to have my Blank be about thirteen years old, having been next to the Inquisitor as a psyker blocker and firefight backup from about the age of seven, but showing enough maturity (more accurately, a lack of stupidity due to lack of emotion) and general ability over time to start being considered for the position of Acolyte, though not ascended to the role proper yet. If that's not acceptable as far as age goes - keeping in mind that he'd act rather older than his years, through a combination of emotionlessness and general awareness of how the Imperium's foes would turn the galaxy into a cesspool of heresy - then I can have him be older than that as needed.
