The Supernatural Concealment and Investigation Operations Network.
Better known as S.C.I.O.N.
Once, in times gone by, known as The Order of the Scion of the Azure Moon.
But that's a bit of a mouthful and hard to shout when some lycan is trying to crush your trachea in a big meaty fist.
So, SCION it is.
Assuming you're a human, you will probably never have heard of it. You will most likely live out your entire life never openly encountering any trace of SCION, or its staff. And if you don't, you can probably consider yourself lucky; because if you have, you're either a very exceptional individual... or something statistically far more powerful is trying to murder you.
Possibly both.
SCION is a collaborative effort between a small section of humanity, and some of the major families of the sapient cryptid species, to both research supernatural species, and the enforce a...healthy distance between humanity, and the monsters out there in the world. It exists to keep things secret, and to keep both sides of the coin safe from destroying each other. (Previous instances where humans and cryptids have mixed in recent times has made things...tense at best. Think Witch Trials. Think, vampires buried alive with rocks stuffed into their mouths, think whole camps of human soldiers found mysteriously torn apart out in remote nordic woodland...that kind of stuff. )
It's the only place you're likely to find humans working alongside werewolves, vampires, the spirits of the dead. Brings a whole new meaning to the idea of workplace diversity, right?
Once upon a time, SCION worked for world governments, under their funding and protection. Branches all over the place. Then, came a sudden declaration to cut the funding, burn the records, and shut everything down. No more SCION anywhere. Gone. Finished. Obviously someone, someone very powerful wanted there to be no-one checking up on supernatural activity.
So, for 50 years, no SCION. Not a peep. Well, not that most people were aware of. Other things rush in to fill the power vacuum. Vampire clans. Wolf packs. And far darker things. Stories of a major demon on US soil filter through the rumour mill, though nothing is confirmed. Order remains... but that order is maintained through a large number of humans who see things they should not going 'missing' forever.
SCION became nearly a myth. The odd shadow in the night. Rumours that they still operated somewhere, on a low level.
Then, about 10 years back, operatives began to appear, to contact the old families and clans. SCION would live again. A benefactor had left them enough funding to begin again from the ground up, this time as an independent entity, outside of government control. They could work once more...but this time they were in a far more precarious position. Relying on the whimsical and tumultuous nature of the powers in the supernatural work for support.
Cut to the present, and SCION has climbed its way back into prominence in the supernatural community. They investigate, they research, they spy...and they bust heads..if need be. They carefully select members from all walks of life and (nearly) all species. Some are important for their skills and aptitude, some for their political position in the supernatural world...and some are simply people who can disappear and not be missed at all. All kinda have been given a new life within the SCION base.
So, the question is, are you ready to sign up?
SCION Teams
There are plenty of types within SCION, all play a big role, and not all get along too well.
The main operatives within the central wings are divided into teams. Each team has trained together for some time and the members know each other well. A Team Leader is assigned to keep everyone in line and to report back to the Officers, the three senior SCION staff who then report back to The Head, SCION's oft-heard, but never seen benefactor.
The Teams often have a degree of rivalry, some playful...sometimes a little less playful, but they are often required to work together cohesively. Any drama (and there's often plenty of drama) must be put aside when out in the field, because if you can't trust someone to watch your back in that dog eat dog world, you're as good as dead.

Species of the Supernatural World
There are many creatures that inhabit the world, without their presence being realised by humanity. Within SCION, this subset of species are collectively referred to as 'cryptids' in order to save time.
Other cryptids do, almost certainly, exist out there in the world (ie if you've got some other ideas, feel free to let your friendly GM know) but some of the most prominent are detailed as follows:
The children of the night. The nosferatu. The things of horror stories and teen romance novels the world over...but the truth of a vampires is both scary, and a bit sad.
Vampires were once humans, humans who had the venom of another vampire injected directly into their jugular vein so as to have it reach their heart almost immediately..and cause it to stop. It would remain stopped for about six hours as every cell in the host's body was infected with the curse, only to have it restart again slower and colder.
A vampire has a very low body temperature, and a naturally slow pulse. They have astonishing dark vision and very fast reflexes. Much like snakes, they are able to sense body heat through adapted cells beneath their skin, and additionally like snakes, they are able to snap out a set of very long, hollow canines from their upper jaw. These often snap out when a vampire is angry or threatened, as well as about to strike.
They are incredibly effective predators. Like mantids their appearance draws their prey, humans. Humans see them as uncommonly, if rather savagely beautiful, and tend to be drawn to them. This suits a vampire well. They must drink blood every few days in order to maintain good health. Without it they will begin to sicken and decay. Their cells will degenerate until they resemble a walking corpse and until their minds degenerate into animalistic madness.
Vampires were supposedly created at some point in pre-history, when a human sold their soul to a demon in exchange for eternal life. The demon granted them their wish, the progenitor would never age, nor sicken, nor decay, but it was a half-life. They would forever be cold, forever cursed to shun the light, and would never bear living children, only able to create more through mixing their tainted blood with that of humanity to create more of them.
That was The Mother, the first vampire.
That's if you believe the legend, but that is what has been passed through the oral tradition of their kind for centuries.
Vampires are defined by the following characteristics:
Low body temperature and slow pulse.
Slow metabolic processes and efficient energy usage, allowing their kind to exist on the comparatively nutrient-poor foodstuff that is blood.
Extremely good dark vision.
Extendable hollow canine teeth driven by strong muscles in the upper jaw. Venom sacs existing next to salivary glands.
Anti-coagulant in saliva.
Longer, more tightly-coiled digestive system.
Cartilage rather than bone making up the sternum, creating a weak point in around the centre of the vampire's chest. (Hence the folklore belief that a vampire might be killed by a 'stake to the heart'.
Increased strength and physical ability, particularly related to having a very fast running speed, and an especially strong grip, for chasing and holding prey.
Appears generally attractive to humans.
Extreme sensitivity to UV radiation. Whilst vampires will not burst into flames in sunlight, their cells are very easily damaged by UV radiation. Their sensitive eyes can easily receive retinal damage, and prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause painful necrosis of skin tissue.
Requires blood every few days in order to retain optimum health. Without it the vampiric cellular structure starts to break down, their cells will start to die and the vampire will begin to appear to 'decay', the subsequent brain damage causing the individual to behave in a progressively more aggressive and animalistic manner. Due to the vampire's enhanced healing factor this damage is reversible up to a certain point, before vampire can be considered too far gone, though there are reports of some older vampires being brought back after centuries of burial.
Hungry like the wolf. The werewolf is another of the supernatural creatures that has permeated popular culture.
Like vampires, some werewolves were once ordinary humans, turned by the bite of one of the lycan kind. However, unlike vampires, a werewolf may have children, and as a result, the majority of werewolves around in the modern era were born never having known humanity. Born wolves tend to be stronger than those turned, and those from certain lines stronger still than that. This tends to make born-wolves a little...hung up on it.
A werewolf, most of the time, resembles a person. A born-wolf tends to be on the tall side, with an athletic build and something a little..scruffy about them. Males of the species tend to build muscle mass quite easily. All werewolves have a fast metabolism, a high body temperature, and a rapid pulse. They tend to display quite impressive strength even in human form, and this is greatly increased when they transform.
Transformation is a major part of a werewolf's life. By default, upon every full moon, as the last rays of sun disappear they will be hit by agonizing, blinding pain. Bones will snap and reform, organs will fail and warp. The werewolf will suffer a heart attack, multiple fractures, massive internal trauma and their skin will tear itself apart. By the end, they will be a new creature, a horrifying meld of human and beast with a wolf-like head and a hunched body, covered in thick fur.
Transformed, partly due to the beast instincts, and partly due to the immense trauma of transformation, werewolves become animalistic and vicious. They will attack most living things and act like a wild creature, causing destruction and chaos around them.
That is unless they are properly trained. Born werewolves will be put through rigorous training by their own pack. First of all mental preparation in order to maintain their goals in wolf form, and to not harm those on their own side. The second set of training they got through it using a focus to bring on the change outside the full moon. These 'forced' transformations can give them a needed edge in a fight, but are also very hard on a werewolf's body. To force a change whilst injured or unwell can easily kill the individual.
Along with born-wolves come the unfortunate products of werewolves without restraint, turned-wolves, humans who were bitten by a werewolf and survived this encounter. These are often considered a great concern for retaining supernatural secrecy, as many won't even be aware of their condition until they reach a full moon, and uncontrolled they an wreak terrible chaos. A turned werewolf has been a cause for more than a few SCION dispatches over the years.
Another who has known what it is to be human, most as they were often born of humans. A sorcerer is a mortal who has magic running through their veins. They are able to channel into the fundamental forces of nature and wreck things with it.
This tends to be a problem to an inexperienced caster, though. For many it may begin to trigger accidentally, fires starting, objects flinging themselves into walls, strange presences within the home. That sort of thing. Uncontrolled, the powers can be very dangerous, growing unchecked and unfocused they often end up lashing out at random, killing the caster or people around them.
A sorcerer can however, train and learn to manipulate their abilities to call upon the elements. Through this they can become very powerful, despite being physically unremarkable and as mortal as any regular man.
An enigmatic form of cryptid, most Fallen with Scion were picked up directly from where they appeared. That is, Fallen appear to literally...fall. When you see footage of meteorites crashing to earth wreathed in flame. Not all of them are meteorites. Investigators will sometimes find, rather than shattered space rock in th e crater, a humanoid figure, smoking and blackened with burns, bones shattered and body twisted up like you might expect something that'd just rocketed out of the sky in a trail of flame to end up looking like.
It's pretty nasty...but is made quite a bit more nasty by the fact that they're nearly always alive after landing.
Most Fallen recovered by SCION have been comatose since their recovery, and offer little other than research material into the phenomenon. Those that have awoken, whilst more immediately useful, suffer from acute amnesia, and have no memory of their lives before they fell. Most however have appeared easy enough to deal with, and have often taken up posts within the organisation.
All Fallen are very heavily scarred, and tend to not be too pleasant to look at, but often have quite gentle dispositions. Their touch has the odd ability of being able to relieve the pain and infer a sense of serenity upon those they make contact with, and as a result many have had success training as medics within the organisation.
Wendigo, known in other cultures as an Ithaqua, Jikininki, Rakshasha, one of the Wild Hunt, Draugr, or a host of other names, is a spirit of the savagery of nature that may come to inhabit a human.
These are primordial spirits borne of the earth, and exist less as a full intelligence and more of an animal drive. To hunt and feed the earth with the blood of the prey.
A Wendigo may be 'contracted' in some ways, but in some cases it may be invited in with certain rituals.
This is because becoming host to a Wendigo does not, at least, if properly managed, overtake the consciousness of the person carrying it, and does confer certain benefits.
The host is stronger, faster, will heal more quickly, and has highly acute sense like a predatory creature.
In addition they will be brought into the flow of nature itself. Plants will begin to grow wherever they stay for long, animals that might be fierce and dangerous to others will become submissive and calm, and the host can sense the intruders in any woods where they dwell.
However. The wendigo must be sated by hunting.
The host must spill the blood of a creature frequently as an offering to the earth, or they will begin to change. The symptoms resemble the development of rabies, then, addition their whole body begins to change and become something bestial and horrific. By the time they've reached this they will remain a bloodthirsty monster until the creature is vanquished, and that can only be completed by using weapons made from the naturally occurring plants of the area it inhabits. When the beast is defeated the circle s completed and a bloodied battered human body will take its place.

Hi folks! I'm Vit, your GM for the evening (and hopefully longer?).
Welcome to SCION OOC, make yourself at home, have fun, and respect the house rules.
Please submit characters on the OOC thread for review before putting them on up in the characters tab. Place aren't really limited or anything but I like to check everything makes sense first.
Be polite in the OOC thread. Leave the bickering to the characters, lord knows they need the space.
Take as many characters as you can handle, but only if you're comfortable with juggling them.
You're welcome to put your character up for one of the team leader roles, but do be aware that they'll be reviewed for realism in the sense that they're supposedly an individual who has proven themselves an able leader. ie, a team member character could realistically get away with being a it of a slacker, a team member character, much less so.
If you have any other species ideas, you're welcome to suggest, though it does depend to some degree on the species' capacity to blend in in the 'normal' world. Dragons might exist out there somewhere, but you're not likely to see one strolling down a street waving to onlookers.
I'm relatively new to this site specifically, so, I'm not really hip with the fancy coding, so, if you want to pretty-up your sheet more than my mediocre attempt, add more pictures, do something fancy, then be my guest, so long as it retains the categories listed.
I think that's about all I need to cover for now. If you're interested in hopping on this, do speak up!
Wolf Moon, for the purpose of socializing her with her own kind
Description:
Heavy claw marks ripping through her back, evidence of a werewolf attack she suffered as a teenager, along with a few burn scars on her wrists and arms. They look like twisted white specs grouped together in large spots
Personality:
She was a nice, typical girl before she was bit. Never spoke out of turn or got too angry, just bottled everything up in side, hoping all of it would fade away. After her "accident," she grew more violent and volatile. She snapped at any little mistake and blew her top on her friends whenever they got into unimportant arguments. While she has learned to control her temper for the most part, she is still trying to learn how to interact with other werewolves, afraid if she's acting too weak or too overbearing. She's more cautious than relaxed anymore, strung up tight like a coil. Who knows when she'll snap?
Skills:
While she still has difficulty controlling herself when transformed, she has surprising strength in her human form. Flexible leg muscles meant to jump and run great distances, along with a punch packed to the brim with years of suppressed anger and depression. Her claws feel delicate and almost fumble in her own hands, so she uses them as little as possible
Weaknesses:
Her back always feels tender and exposed, as if she is still anticipating another werewolf attack. She becomes very defensive and closed whenever anybody touches her there, whipping around and slapping them if they make that bad of an impression on her memory.
Brief History:
She was born into an influential family of CEOs and other businessmen. The wealth was nice but the death threats were not, as her father received them often from competitors. They couldn't go to the police because they were often involved with illegal activities, leading to more violent messages and signs they were going to be attacked if her father did not resign his position. He refused, taking a chance on the life of his family. Walking home from school one day, Clara was attacked by a werewolf, a clear attack by their challengers. She has suffered the brunt of her father's mistakes for the last 5 years...she intends to never be involved with him again, a reason why she joined SCION
Whether it is the charm characteristic of her species, or just genetics, she’s easy on the eyes. Long dirty blonde hair extends past her shoulders in delicate waves, although she mostly wears it up to not stain it with blood. As a human the light caused her eye color to shift but now they are duller, colder. Her posture is refined even if her clothes tend to reflect a more casual style.
Personality:
Talk about a metamorphosis. Ashley as a human was the ultimate party girl, she was pretty, popular and had practically invented the word carefree. And why not? She thought she had her whole life to grow up. Then her transformation happened and her world took a 180-degree turn. Now her face is usually contorted in a thoughtful frown and any conversations she has with others are about work. She may be on the field but she is still an avid researcher and a workaholic. Ash is quiet towards strangers but definitely not a pushover. To others she’s a smartass, to her friends she the reliable one that has got her life together. She spends her time lost in though which might lead others to think she is uninterested but really she takes everything seriously, maybe a little too serious. Organized and quit-witted she can easily plan and improvise when things go sour. Hunger is not as big a problem for her as other vampires.
________________________________________
Skills:
Like her species, Ash has developed supernatural night vision, strength and speed. Her fangs are similar to those of other vampires’ but they have a slight curve at the end, like that of a snake. She also possesses venom, although she has never turned anyone else and prefers to have a clean drink. Although young she shows remarkable control when not emotionally upset. Her healing powers are average for her kind.
Weaknesses:
Her delicate skin and eyes are sensitive to light and tend to show irritation almost immediately. If she ever has to go out, she wears a long coat and sunglasses. The weakness in her sternum seems to have spread out a little in her case as her ribcage is easily damaged. Since she’s young for a vampire she is physically weaker than her older counterparts, for now.
________________________________________
Brief History: Ashley had a good human life. Caring parents, good grades and a likable attitude that gained her many friends, her early years seemed to hint at a great future. Her teenage years her crazy and rebellious, like the stereotypical teenage movie expect less cat fights. At 20 years old she was in college and her parents were asking her to grow up and to start taking things more seriously. She got good grades anyway so she told them that when she turned 21 she would get it together. At a party she was hanging out with some friends when a mysterious stranger took her out to the dance floor. He was enthralling and their brief moment was enough for her to let him drive her home. On the drive home a drunk driver nearly crashed into them but the boy’s supernatural reflexes left them unscathed. Except for a shallow cut on her forehead when the airbags were deployed, and this was Ashley’s downfall. The boy she met was a vampire with a drinking problem and when the crimson liquid surfaced his identity was revealed. In order to not kill her he turned her. That was ten years ago. They spent almost half the decade together, but Ashley had changed, she was more serious and sadder. She was angry, he saw her as a broken toy, so they broke apart. SCION was Ashley’s chance to think about something other than her lost life. She learned about it through a vampire she hunted with once or twice and applied soon after.
@WildChocobo Yep, siren sounds like it should fit fine. Might well have a gorgon around in due course so will be good to have a few greek mythology beasties about.
Aaaand Cyrus is up, so that's the first of my characters done.
Full Name: Phoebe Alice Stride Nicknames/Aliases: Stride Age: 46, although she physically appears to be in her early twenties. Gender: Female Species: Gorgon/Human Hybrid SCION Team/Rank: Member of Thunder Moon
Description:
At about 5’4”, “Stride” is a woman of pale complexion, and even paler hair. Locks of silver fall messily about her face, with several hanging low enough to brush her chin. Her eyes are a strikingly bright yellow, and very much serpentine; nearly all of her eyes taken up by the same color, and her pupils are slitted. Scales litter her body, showing up as sporadic patches on otherwise regular human skin.
However, Stride has a habit of covering most of her features, leaving much to the imagination. Typically, she dons a pair of goggles over her eyes, and a thin, breathable strip of fabric over her mouth; although when out on battle, she tends to switch these items out for a basic gas mask. Her outfit consists of a maroon jacket over dark shirts, jeans, and a set of work gloves and boots.
Asides from these features, Stride is of Japanese and Greek descent, and while she can understand the language of the former, prefers speaking in English above anything else.
Personality:
Sarcastic, hasty, and generally rough-around-the-edges, Stride’s personality seems to befit the protagonist of a cheesy action movie over a member of a discreet intelligence operation. Her vocabulary is vast enough to make a sailor blush, and is something she often uses to get on the nerves of most decent folk. It doesn’t take long for her to give out a few rather...blunt comments if it means getting a rise out of someone. She possesses quite the temper, as well- acting childishly when frustrated or taken off guard, and throwing out meaningless insults in an effort to maintain what she views as an “impressive” demeanor. Given this hot-bloodedness, this often makes her fairly unpleasant company, especially when around those with thinner skin.
In spite of this, however, she’s fiercely loyal to both SCION and her companions, working doggedly to get both recognition and admiration between her peers. This results in her being a bit show-offy at times; although when it counts, Stride can be fairly cool-headed and reasonable enough, making her decent enough to work with.
Skills:
While she cannot induce the same symptoms as a pure blooded gorgon, Stride’s gaze can stun anyone who meets her eyes, inducing an effect similar to being tazed in the victim- muscles locking, and waves of pain flooding their body. If Stride were to hold her gaze for too long, it is very much possible that her power could turn deadly. She’s also talented with use of firearms- especially with her dual H&K MP7A1s- and fairly decent in terms of hand-to-hand combat. Her heritage also grants her a heightened healing factor, which, again, while not as strong as a gorgon’s, heals minor wounds fairly quickly and keeps her from aging much.
Aside from those, Stride also boasts the basic knowledge of most SCION fighters on squaring off with the supernatural- both in detainment and dispatchment- as well as some various miscellaneous skills picked up from her work.
Weaknesses: Stride’s pride tends to be her biggest weakness, as, in efforts to prove herself, she will often charge headfirst into a confrontation. She’s willing to perform dangerous stunts- a trait of hers only worsened by her fighting style, which, when left up to her, focuses on getting closer than most long-ranged weapon users would. Using her gaze for too long tends to draw energy from her, and, along the lines of her heritage related attributes, Stride is also cold-blooded. There is also the matter of her being a perfectionist; while this leads her to strive for improvement, it also leads to aggression and irritation when she fails to reach her intended goal.
In addition, Stride is rather emotionally underdeveloped, causing her to become frustrated when things don’t go her way.
Brief History: Young Phoebe was born as a result of a rather...problematic affair between her mother- a married human woman, and head of a prosperous weapons company- and her father- a gorgon killer-for-hire. As the child didn’t exactly resemble the woman’s husband, it was obvious enough that she was a bastard- something that threatened to cause a large stain upon the family’s reputation. As such, Stride was often kept away from company and shunned, causing her to turn to the various movie and T.V. memorabilia for influence on her personality.
Throughout her years, Stride constantly worked in an effort to become a proper member of the family; although her efforts were made for nothing at the resurgence of SCION. Upon its discovery, her family was quick to send her to join the organization, and she has remained with the group ever since.
Full Name Aries Diego Campbell Nicknames/Aliases [ Ari / Bell / Diego / Camp Age 35 Gender Male Species Werewolf SCION Team/Rank Wolfmoon
Description Aries in human form stands at 6'4" and weighs round 205 lbs. He has a very athletic build with a v-shape torso. His skin is a very tan-caramel colour. His charcoal hair lets his aqua eyes pop out from under the dark brow they lay beneath. His body by muscle is very evened out as he doesn't overwork any muscular parts on his body. As well, he was born with a decently balanced body length with his torso and legs being round the same length causing him to be portioned out correctly. Aries does carry some sharp features especially in his facial structure but for the most part. His facial structure is very gentle like his personality.
Personality Aries is a laid back individual with a collective mindset. He has a gentle way with him as he rather be calm with others. He is very polite to other individuals even other species. He tries to get along with everybody but sometimes that just doesn't happen. Aries can be in-polite though especially when he's being sarcastic...it comes off in-polite but he really is just joking around. Try not to take him to serious. Aries does have a big heart when it comes to everyone especially his own kind being in a matter of distress. He is a more fatherly individual even if he has never had children of his own. He still has that roll going on to everyone that is younger then him or acts younger then him. (AKA if you are even 2 days younger then him he will treat you as his child). As a werewolf and growing up in a pack caused Aries to be very social. He's always social with everyone if they allow him to be. He won't just ignore you for any old reason unless you give him one. Being a very optimistic individual, he has a rightfully true mindset.
Skills Aries grew up in a wolf pack causing him to have self-control when in his transformation state as a wolf. Though he can get a little out of hand especially in the moments of action. He has never attacked someone that is on his team. But he has been vicious with different species (Even on his team) in this form. In his human form he is incredibly stronger then a normal human. Though working up his muscle didn't help his strength increase by age and working out his body. His actions have increase by working out and age as well... running he became faster. He might not be the fastest in his area since he is very heavy in weight (205 lbs) causing him not to be as quick as smaller individuals. Though he can jump very high from where he stands especially when he gets a running start. He will be able to grab a tree branch others cant from his height and strength.
Weaknesses Aries when he was younger and he first transformed forcefully by the full moon something happened that caused most of his ribs to become floating. Ever since then if he moves wrong or even lies down in a position that lets them slightly slide in the socket. He feels pain and won't be able to breathe very well. You can tell it hurts him a lot when moving around or fighting with others. Which is why he builds and keeps muscle in his rib cage. So, his ribs don't hurt as much. It fixed some of the floating ribs. But, not all of them. Still a few main ribs on his left side float and a few scattered on his right rib cage float. Aries also has a bad left knee from when he was a teenager and got into a fight with his father. Causing his knee to pop out of the socket and shatter. Medically it got fixed the best it could but it stills hurt him from time to time. Most mornings his left knee hardens with liquid that stays inside it so he cannot bend it at all.
Brief History Aries was born into a wolf back by both mother and father baring the same powers as he was born with. He enjoyed the social community he was born into. The training, the laughter, the meals that the mothers made. It was all wonderful to him. Memories he wouldn't ever forget. As he grew into early double digits. Four children were born after him from his parents. He loved his siblings and protected them all the time. He was six years older then the second born child. Causing him to have all the responsibility of an older brother and the first born.
Teenage years came along and he was well trained in his transformation form and is human form. He was trained the hardest from his father out of all the siblings. His father was the pack leader and made sure his first born son wouldn't be weakened by anything. Which backfired at the young twenties.
Him and his father got into a major fight, transforming, growling, biting, punching, wrestling. Aries didn't want to become the leader of a pack and refused to ever be something like his father. His father was not pleased with his sons refusal. After the fight Aries went to the hospital for his left knee was completely shattered by his father's jaws. As he went to the hospital and they began surgery as soon as possible.
Once SCION was back in town. Aries Father didn't want to deal with him and kept pushing him to join the SCION. Which Aries also still refused his father threatened with leaving the pack all to Aries or him joining Scion. Which Aries picked SCION for he didn't trust the pack under his control. He felt weak as he had a big heart, his ribs were floating and he had a bad knee. He didn't feel like he could become the leader his parents wanted him too. After joining Scion he has kept where he comes from secret, telling no one of anything. Not telling anybody of his pains and weaknesses, he rather does not deal with the judgement of others. So, he usually is in his own little space if he's not out on a mission with everyone else.
@VitoftheVoid And because I'm feeling ambitious, what would you think is the reasonability of a werewolf/vampire "mix" of sorts? (Edited out "hybrid" since that has genetic implications.)
@VitoftheVoid Do we have to be something from the list of creatures, or can we be something more "out there"? [Spring-heeled jack, frogman, lycan-not-werewolf, ect.]
@Juicy In the sense of one of the species who was bitten by the other? That in itself happening is probably not unheard of, but the two conditions don't really play very nicely with one another due to the serious opposition in their ideal body environment. Vampires have low body temperature, slow pulse, longer digestive tract, werewolves high body temperature, rapid pulse, short digestive tract. I suspect that a crossover wouldn't live too long, or one 'condition' would overcome the other. Of course if you can come up with a reason a character might've ended up a stable cross, I'd be happy to give it a look.
@Spinosaurus I'm happy to accept different species, so long as they fit the 'could conceivably blend into normal society if they tried' rule. That said, for the sake of this canon's simplicity, 'lycan' and 'werewolf' are just different terms for the same creatures.
@Spinosaurus Well that would depend, the creature would, presumably, have had to come from somewhere. Something being the last of its kind would make sense, but aside from primordial things like demons that aren't welcome in the organisation, things must have been created at one point.

A tall, lanky man with bifocals figuratively thicker than his biceps. He's got a mop of disheveled brown hair and quick blue eyes which are magnified by his glasses to nearly owl-like proportions. His skin is pale from lack of sun exposure, but a dusting of freckles dots his cheekbones. Silas has gangly arms and a tendency to swing them about when he speaks. His outfits typically consist of button up shirts and sweaters, often accented by a stray gecko or two hiding under her collar or the roll of his sleeve.
Personality:
Silas is a proponent of the "knowledge is power" philosophy, and embodies this ideal with his actions: He is quick and exuberant, with an insatiable thirst for information. He enjoys the company of others, but tends to trail off on tangents mid-conversation. His curiosity is excitable at best and uncontrollable at worst, as he is prone to sudden ideas and will often lock himself in the study for hours on end when he is confronted by a question he has yet to explore. That being said, he has come to accept that some phenomenon have no answer, and embraces the mantra of, "I can't know that which I don't know."
Silas is empathetic, despite being fairly socially inept, and is always willing to lend a listening ear. He is slow to hold a grudge, but strong in his convictions. He believes the answer to most problems lies in communication, and the rest are simply reached through persistence.
Skills:
Photographic memory, MENSA genius, and esteemed supernatural lore expert, fluent in Latin, ancient Greek, Old English, Hindi, and Gaelic, with multiple degrees (Bachelors in History with a focus on European tribes and a minor in mythology, Masters in archaeology, Masters in ancient history, Masters in linguistics with a speciality in dead languages, Doctorate in linguistics, Doctorate in in ancient history with a focus in mythology and ancient lore).
Also capable of understanding a large number of reptilian tongues, and gets along quite well with most scaly critters.
Weaknesses:
Silas is poor in combat, boasting no more ability than a mortal human. He's also curious to a fault, and is easily coerced into doing otherwise foolish things in the hunt for new information. He also serves as the host for an ancient reptilian deity, commonly referred to as a Naga, that spews a constant stream of useless ideas into his consciousness.
Brief History:
Since a young age, Silas was always a bit "different:" He preferred books over video games and documentaries over action films. He started college at age 15, and went on to study with several universities, acquiring three Masters and two Doctoral degrees by the tender age of 26.
Silas published multiple papers, but was best known for his work in ancient history and the mythologies of ancient peoples. At 27, he lead an archaeological expedition of students and peers in India to investigate a recently discovered temple to a previously undocumented local deity. While inside, Silas happened upon a patch of unstable ground, lost his footing, and tumbled into a subterranean tunnel below the temple's main floor.
He toppled into a secret chamber and broke his leg, and more importantly, unleashed a curse upon himself in the chamber.
The spirit of the temple deity, a powerful Naga, manifested in the young Doctor Whitmore, cursing him to be forever surrounded by, and able to understand the whispering of, reptiles.
Which, as far as curses went, didn't seem the worst possibility.
Unfortunately, the deity also took up host residence in the young academic. Silas was rescued by an excavation team within two days of his incident, being pulled from the tomb hungry, dehydrated, and with several geckos in his pockets, but physically intact.
The curse, however, had shaken him to the core and served to confirm a suspicion he had held for many years: The subjects and myths of his research were more than fairy stories. Between his new possession and this realization, he took to incoherent babbling. That which did make sense seemed nonsensical, leading him to voluntarily commit himself for mental treatment.
Hearing this story, SCION moved in to adopt the doctor and introduced to the reality of a supernatural world. With this new understanding, and after he had adequately geeked out at the actual existence of cryptids, Dr. Whitmore managed to learn to live with his new state. He was offered a position as the chief historical and lore expert, and has been cheerfully researching away in the rare archives ever since. He doubles as an adjunct professor at a local university, teaching multiple anthropology courses online (as the last time he set foot on campus, the snakes from the biology lab had a sudden and violent escape.)
@Spinosaurus It's fine to have a background that's shrouded in mystery from an IC perspective, but from an OOC point of view, something that's a big departure from the norm would need a clear reason, not in the least because SCION would be rather unwilling to accept an agent that they felt was withholding information from them, if that makes sense.
