Equipment: On an average day Daisuke has his school and work uniforms with him, his school supplies, and his road bike. A bike isn’t an odd sight at Uchima Senior High, but Daisuke’s is always immaculate and well-cared for. His phone isn’t anything to write home about, a mainline smartphone a few generations out of date and in good condition despite its scuffed appearance. A friend of his once gave him a pair of old knuckle dusters as a joke, but the semi-reformed delinquent is surprisingly fond of them. He isn’t technically supposed to have them at school, but he tends to have them with him anyway.
Skills: The eldest Miyamoto child is a lot more athletic than you’d think, though if you were to think about it again it’d make sense. He can run pretty quickly, quicker than most people who don’t take it up as a hobby, but most importantly he can run for a
while. As for strength, Daisuke packs a
mean punch. He might not need more than the one, but if he does it won’t be much of a problem. Holding his own in a fight is something he learned, not something anyone taught him. His form’s a little rough, his technique needs polish, but he
wins. And in a real fight, that’s all that really matters. He hasn’t lost much, and while you could chalk that up to a lot of things, the biggest is that he doesn’t quit. Ever. Knock him around all you want, and he’ll just get up when you’re tired, kick your ass, and make it to work on time.
Speaking of, despite his reputation, Daisuke is a hard and loyal worker. He’s been the best employee the McDonalds in his neighborhood has since he was old enough to work, and a whole lot of his exercise comes from his almost supernatural speed at commuting from home, to school, to work, and back home each and every day. He’s quick, he’s efficient, and he’s dedicated. A philosophy he tries to hold to in all aspects of life.
Appearance: Daisuke could probably be a handsome fellow, if he tried. It’s not so much that he doesn’t, either, but the vast majority of people take a look and see the face of a demon. It’s the irreverent, devil-may-care smirk that does it, underneath the bright green eyes that glare out a challenge at the whole world. His brown hair’s usually a little too long, and a little messy, but that tends to come across as stylistic rather than negligent. He’s surprisingly muscular for a guy his age, too, something augmented by his taller stature. Not that the school uniform tends to show it. The uniform he wears with great irritation and reluctance, the jacket never fastened for long, and never
on him for long. It’s usually draped over his shoulder, since as much as he hates it he can’t really afford to lose it.
His uniforms, work or school, are always well maintained but his casual clothes usually seem a little worn. Not to the point of being torn or ratty, but colors are faded, sleeves and hems seem a worn out, and nothing is as vibrant as it may once have been. His sneakers are scuffed and weathered, but given the same care as most of his possessions. It’s clear they’ve lasted a while. If he isn’t forced to wear his uniforms, he tends to pick out a pair of jeans and a shirt to go underneath a well-loved black jacket. It’s not too uncommon for his shirts to have simple graphics, but they may just as likely be a plain color. The jacket almost always has a pair of sunglasses tucked into a chest pocket.
Daisuke’s neat appearance for work is seldom seen; he intentionally works at the McDonalds closest to his home, and furthest from the school, despite the commute so that his classmates will not happen to walk in while he’s on the clock.
Personality: Delinquent is what all the teachers at his old school would’ve said, and some of the ones at Uchima Senior High. He doesn’t talk a whole lot in class, doesn’t seem that interested, and moves with a sort of barely contained energy. Like he’s always ready for a fight, or looking for one. He’s been known to silence irritations with a glare, and move on like nothing happened. Only the teachers that have him for class and pay close attention, or the select few that get close enough to
really call him a friend, know any different.
Daisuke is undyingly loyal, if you’ve managed to earn it, and will never back down. From anything. Not a challenge, not a fight, not a problem. He doesn’t really know
how to run away, or if he does he abandoned the idea a long time ago. Helping someone out isn’t a question, it’s just what he needs to do. Above all, he
despises a bully. And as hard as it is to say, he tries. His grades are better than they’ve been in a long time, and it takes a lot of effort for him to keep them up
and keep up his job.
There’s a certain friendliness to him, if you really try and talk to him, and a soft side that only ever really comes out for his family. Or friends close enough that they might as well be family.
Biography: If the Miyamotos were ever wealthy, it was a long time ago. That’s not to say they don’t get by; Daisuke’s parents work hard, and they make enough money to support their family. Their frugal spending ensures they always have a little to fall back on, but even the most efficient expenditures can’t make more money out of thin air. Daisuke and his little sister, born three years after him, grew up in Shikatsu’s lower income districts. Neither their neighborhood nor their school were the nicest of places, and if you didn’t keep your wits you were liable to lose your money. The first time someone tried to rob a young Daisuke of his money, he capitulated out of fear for the consequences. And the second time. And the third time. Then he started to decide he’d had enough. His sister went to the same school, and he realized it wasn’t the example he wanted to set. Timidity, he decided, had never gotten a Miyamoto anywhere. The fourth time he refused, and earned himself a bruise or two and a trip to the headmaster’s office with his would-be robber. The fifth time he hit back. And after the fifth, despite some disciplinary action, his lunch money was never unsafe again.
That time as a little kid pretty much set the tone for the rest of Daisuke’s life. Bold, stubborn, and the antithesis of timid. He had a little sister looking up to him, and that made the almost larger than life refusal to leave bullies be worth it. Not that it was all sunshine and roses. Those visits to the headmaster weren’t the last, and as he got older playground scuffles turned into schoolyard brawls.
Which he just couldn’t keep up. He had a job to hang onto, almost the instant he was in high school. The fast food industry wasn’t much, but it paid. Education was paramount to the young Miyamotos’ parents, too, and they started pressuring him to perform better in school. So he forced himself to mellow out a little. Employ a little more diplomacy before he jumped straight to “punch the problem in the face”. His parents’ frugal habits had paid off, too, enough for him (and his sister, when she was old enough) to get into Uchima Senior High instead of the closer, less prestigious school he had been attending. Keeping on top of it all tends to take a lot of his time, but hey.
