As for this? I do. I do greatly. Given the atmosphere, tone, and general decorum of GCS I would never in a million years suggest that it should become the replacement for the main chat—not because the main chat has a good utility or is needed, but moreso on the fact that it is endangering the brand. There’s a reason @Mag Lev and the other mods have an “agreement” with GCS but not an actual partnership.

From my point-of-view it is a colossally inane and stupid idea.

honestly, i think the chatbox could do with either some sort of activity boost (don't know how the fuck that would work), or just deleting entirely. you see 4 people online, at best, these days.

Owning an official discord is a helluva lot of work. Being a part of a few 'official' type discords, the moderating and the entire building of that discord seems incredibly time consuming.

Honestly, if there's to actually be an Official Guild Discord Server, it'd have to be run by a mod who's been solely tasked with discord admin duties. Probably more than one, to be honest. And I'm not sure that's high on their priority list unless everyone suddenly wants a more active discord.

I think @Inkarnate suggested it'd have to be like how Iwaku runs things. I'd agree entirely on that. But, since there's an unofficial GDS, I honestly don't think an official one is going to crop up any time soon. It lessens mod work load if they don't have to pay attention to it, imo.

The moderators do not run GCS, dedicated members of the community do. It is not an officially made or officially sanctioned channel to represent this website by the administration. Any behavior that is out of tone or spirit with this website jeopardize the integrity of the brand; especially on a server that is the equivalent of the wild west.

I must admit I see little problems in this given that the moderators themselves have already stated they want self-governance in terms of reporting. I'm sure that the GCS in itself is not much different from that, especially if we can select a few trustworthy and involved people to lead the GCS.

Although I understand the concern, I honestly think that you're putting too much thought into it in this case. If someone posts some shit on RPG that is out of tone similarly, that doesn't jeopardize the integrity of the brand right away.

It might mean the moderators have to clean up their act a little bit and actually enforce the rules we have, but I was advocating for that for a long time already anyway.

It'd be nice to see it active again, honestly. But it's got built in visibility, and it's there if people want to use it. I honestly go to other chat sites and see their "shoutboxes" without a ton of activity either. I think Skype/Discord is where most people naturally gravitate, and maybe that's okay. Can still do what you can for the chat room, though.

yea, i do get where buddha is coming from with the discord thing, though, as it's probably the main reason for chat's inactivity.

I think it's at least partially an issue of functionality. Discord has way more functions, and if you wanna make your own Discord server, you can.

Keep in mind when Mahz designed and coded it that the chat was meant to replace the IRC, not a Discord chat. Different functionalities there.

yeah, definitely. to be honest i'm glad the chat's there instead of the irc, because jesus christ those things are hard to use. discord is just the way to go, i guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Speaking of; the suggestion of a second admin has been brought to Mahz's attention and will be further looked into in the next few days. Rest assured with the knowledge that he thinks it's a good idea.

in fact, actually got a suggestion (partly in honour of fallen comrade @raddum, partly because it's a good idea due to so many people just disappearing off the face of the earth): maybe have like a farewells thread? or at least a tab for goodbyes in the "introduce yourself" section? i dunno, it's not really important but it would be a neat little feature.

fuck me for trying to keep things on topic. anyways, the discussion has moved past that now. mahz was actually here for a brief moment, which means we might have made some progress, but not much can be said until he actually issues a statement or whatever.

There's an idea that I thought of while scrolling through the Arena's commentary in regards to Buddha's suggestions - What if more sections were to include a similar "hangout/chat thread" similar to what Arena has? It's true that OOC/Off-Topic exists and anyone can make a thread chat there, but they're often shut down due to inactivity or become "clique-y". I think it could totally have some merits of uniting parts of the community with similar interests/Roleplaying styles.
