The year is 20XX. You are a regular high school student living in Tokyo, Japan. Your life is nothing spectacular for the most part. You go to school, hang out with friends, indulge in hobbies, and get wrapped up in the occasional mischief. However, this monotony is soon destroyed by a popular trend that’s taken Japan by storm. The Digital Demon app was created by an unknown developer and distributed freely amongst all smartphone users. The game is praised for its realistic visuals, varied list of monsters to raise and fight with others, and mass appeal among all ages. Though it did garner some controversy for its use of religious figures as Ultra Rare demons, such as Shiva and Satan, it has been a smash hit in Japan.
This innocuous hobby, however, may be the key to surviving the upcoming week inside of Tokyo. Unbeknownst to anyone, Tokyo will soon be subject to a week long shutdown for unknown reason. Not a single person will be able to leave the Yamanote Line—that is, the circular train track that is by far the most popular method of traveling through Tokyo. All electricity is cut off, there is no form of outside communication, and worst of all, no way to get back home for most people due the closing of all train stations. The official reason for this lockdown is that it was caused to save the people from the effects of a chemical spill happening just outside—an explanation that is quickly scrutinized by the masses.
There are rumors floating about that there is a far more sinister reason behind the shutdown. Numerous gruesome murder cases have emerged in the past few days with no culprit or method to be found, leading many to suspect that the deaths are the work of some monster. The claw marks and entire missing chunks from the bodies of the victims have only given more credence to these rumors, though the police, of course, vehemently deny these allegations. Despite this, the rumors are still running their course, some even claiming to have seen the perpetrators of these crimes must be demons of some sort similar to the variety found in the Digital Demon app.
Regardless, at the present moment, you are a student who will be trapped in the line after meeting up with three other school friends. For some reason, right before news of the lockdown hits, all four of you hear a voice saying the same thing:
“Let the search for Kalki finally commence.”

Hey there, this is the start of my new SMT/Devil Survivor that will hopefully last for longer than a single page. If you are interested in joining please click this link for more information the games and its mechanics. This will hopefully be my first time GMing a roleplay so feel free to call me out if I've made any mistakes or if you have some questions you need answered. So after all that, here's the sheet.
Name: Age: Personality: Appearance: Backstory: (need only be a paragraph minimum) Stats: Weapon: (if applicable)
Note that you'll all be friends who go to school together, so if you'd like to plan out your backstory with one of the other players, I urge you to go right ahead. Please post any character sheets in the OOC and await my approval before moving them to the character tabs. Additionally, if you'd like to lend me a hand with GMing this thing, just hit me up with a PM.
Cool cool! It's been... a while since I joined an RP that had stats that weren't just fluff and for show, so this should be fun.
And to let other players know (to maybe help with planning backstories that work together), my current idea for a character is a rather tomboyish girl who's a star volleyball player at the school the kids go to. I haven't really thought about her personality in-depth, but I do know that one of her defining traits will be her desire to be looked up to, as a sort of role model or hero.
I should have sheet up within two days~. Speaking of, @Matador, should there be a 'Personality' section on the CS? Not sure if you meant to omit it or not, so just want to ask to make sure.
Writing up a character now, he's going to be a strength-based guy. I'll leave some of his backstory a little open in case anyone wants to tie in their character, but I plan on making him the president of the Kendo club if that's okay.
I think this much (mechanic wise) is too much for me to handle right now. :|. I think I might pull out.
I really don't think it's that complex. It's just talking, fusing, cracking, and some stats. But if you feel that way, I understand and wish you the best of luck.

Oh, I just added that. Sorry, just me being stupid there.

Sure, that's fine, dude. Do as you please for your backstory.
Personality: If you had to describe Juichi at a glance, most people who didn't really know him would say he is boisterous, animated and arrogant. He demands recognition, and is always trying to show off his strength to others. He seems greedy for attention and respect, often seen when he exaggerates his abilities and feats, along with those of his companions and friends. Despite this, however, Juichi is a man of determination, refusing to give in, no-matter the odds and displaying a high degree of honor. He shows great loyalty to others, even if he has just met them, getting him in more than a few negative encounters. In addition to this loyalty, however, he has an immense force of personality and charisma, which he has developed and uses in order to encourage and train the other Kendo club members. This makes him able to inspire people easily, and he does his best to keep his friends and loved ones constantly doing the best they can.
Juichi will do everything in his power to protect not only every student he can, but also any human he finds in the tunnels. He prefers diplomacy to combat, but his strong moral compass will cause him to take the side of the victim if he finds people being attacked or harassed. Despite his reckless actions and bold personality, Juichi mainly uses his personality as a front in order to help support other people and encourage them to try as hard as they can, as well as a mask to hide his own anxiety and douobts. While he hates that some of the "wild" demons can be aggressive, he recognizes that they are useful tools. Juichi prefers supportive demons that use healing and buffing spells, but is complacent with any. His favorite demon from the app was Alice.
Appearance:
When he got caught in the tunnel, he was wearing his usual outfit: A leather jacket, the shirt of his school uniform, the pants of his school uniform, dress shoes, and his infamous blue sunglasses. Tobei stands at 6'2, weighing about 195-200 pounds of mostly muscle. Tobei is of African-Japanese descent, and is prone to striking poses to complement his personality.
Backstory: Two Moroccan citizens move to Japan in order to pursue their careers, eventually having a daughter, Chinatsu Tazi. Chinautsu later married Ito Nakada, giving birth to Juichi Nakada a year later. From a young age, it was clear that Juichi was meant to be an athlete. He developed extremely quickly, and always loved spending his time outdoors. However, at an early age, he has shown a difficulty at delicate tasks and things that require intelligence, preferring to use brute force to succeed. While this was well and good for sports, he has shown difficulties in the classroom, struggling to keep up his grades. Juichi always idolized Shounen heroes as role models, marveling at how everyone loved them and that they were always protecting people who couldn't protect themselves. Because of this admiration, he soon adopted their over-the-top and meant for comedy personality, emulating it to this day in order to encourage his friends to try their hardest at anything they do. His favorite character and personal role model was Feather Owl of the "Phoenix Ranger Featherman R" Series.
By the time he entered Middle school, his grades weren't much better, but he was far stronger - He had started weightlifting in order to try and get a sport scholarship to a college. He was extremely popular among most of the students, mainly because of his exaggerated personality and impressive charisma. Some students, however, seemed to dislike Juichi - maybe they didn't like that he was always yelling while they were trying to study, or maybe they were a little racist or something. Either way, middle school saw a significant increase in the number of fights that Juichi participated in. Luckily, however, Juichi was one of, if not the strongest person in the student body, and he was always able to repel his attackers. Eventually, he graduated middle school, enrolling into the local high school
Juichi's life continued monotonously, and besides from the occasional scolding for bad grades, it passed without much incident. Juichi, after much deliberation, finally decided on a sport to choose for scholarships: Kendo. In his freshman year of high school, he entered into the Kendo club, rapidly gaining reputation for his impressive strength and natural talent. In addition, since he didn't seem fond of the idea of finding a part-time job, Juichi also joined the Disciplinary committee, viewing it as a way to protect the innocent like the heroes he respected in his youth and accepting that he couldn't become a hero in the real world. Juichi retained his explosive personality, which led to a massive reputation among the student body. A friend of his even recommended that Juichi sign up for student council president, but Juichi felt like he wouldn't be smart enough to manage the plethora of responsibilities that came with the title. As time went on, he eventually made it to his final year of high school. His senpai passed down the title of Kendo club president when he graduated, and Juichi accepted it somewhat apprehensively. He still didn't feel good about being in a position of authority, but everyone else in the club agreed that he would be the best choice. His position in the disciplinary committee didn't really rise, mainly due to his low grades, but he was well-respected for his ability to convince the school delinquents to follow the rules.
Meanwhile, the stress was slowly building up. With higher rankings in both of his clubs, Juichi had barely any free time to himself, and the time that he did have to himself was taken up by his father lecturing him on finding a job and his mother complaining about his grades. Nevertheless, Juichi's personality remained the same, with very few, if anybody, being able to tell that he was severely stressed. While lying in his bed ready to sleep, he decided to check the app store for something to relieve stress and, after searching for awhile, he found it - The Demon summoning program. Despite the strange name, the app itself seeemed to be a game, and there were tons of positive reviews, so Juichi downloaded it onto his phone. He didn't have much time to spend on it between clubs and household chores, but it was doing a good job of relieving stress whenever he played - The game play was addicting, he could conect with a lot of students at school over it, and the games graphics were incredibly realistic, almost too much so considering it was a phone app. Time passed on for about three weeks, until Juichi was called out to Osaki station.
To his surprise, the Kendo club was planning on throwing him a party for winning a recent match against a neighboring school! They said that after they went to a restaurant and ate, they would head to an actual dojo and practice with real blades! Of course they would only be cutting tatami mats, but It still sounded like an awesome time, and Juichi was extremely thankful to the group. Juichi grabbed his favorite katana from his collection (Which he only had because his father was merciful and convinced his mother it was okay), being sure to put it in it's casing and taking his carrying permit for good measure. Just wait until the guys in the club saw it, they'd be super jealous! Of course, Juichi did plan to share. Hell, he took his sharpening stone as well so that they didn't dull the blade and didn't need to use the dojo's katanas. He didn't live near Osaki station, so he would have to take the Yamanote line to make it there. Deciding to waste time, he opened the demon summoning app, only to see that all his demons were gone, vanished into thin air. Before he could comment, the tunnel was encased in darkness as the power cut out.
(I can change or add stuff if anybody wants to tie their characters into his backstory.)
Weapon: As the president of the Kendo club, Juichi owned numerous swords at his home. Luckily, he was bringing his favorite with him to show off to some of his kouhai. He has a sharpening stone which he planned to use to show his friends how to sharpen a blade. Other than that, he's only got his fists.
@Matador Nah, I just named an NPC We'd probably never see. I could edit it out and leave it as nameless guy if you'd prefer.
I'd just come up with another reason for entering the Yamanote Circle or utilize the NPC in a different way so he isn't one of the main 4 people meeting up together. Otherwise, you'd basically be giving an NPC a slot that's meant for a main character.
Oh, and I've been thinking of how to further involve players in the plot and decided that everyone should have the spotlight at one point or another. Since Nakada's such an able sword-fighter, he might get a demon rival very early on...
@Matador I'm still here! Just hit a bit of a writer's block with my character. I'll do my best to at least get something up for tomorrow evening, since I'll be busy much of the weekend.
Personality: Hotaru is a quiet, soft-hearted person around people she’s unfamiliar with. She hides it well, but it’s not hard to make her cry, and bullies have learnt to take advantage of her apparent spinelessness. The reality of the situation is that she believes that if she fought back she’d be the one who would get in trouble. When at school, she mostly tries to keep her head down and out of attention. She has a few close friends she feels she can be open with and is much more relaxed and cheerful when it’s just the small group. She often feels sort of aimless in life, not being really excelling at anything academically, or being particularly interested in any given subject.
Appearance: Hotaru is 175 cm (5’9”) tall, but slouches a bit to hide it, and has an average build. She has a pointy face with sharp, narrow eyes and high cheekbones, and she tends to get mistaken for glaring at people. Her black hair is naturally curly, but the schools she’s attended have made her straighten it, so it has some heat damage. Despite the damage, she keeps her hair long enough that it almost reaches her chest, but doesn’t otherwise do much with it. Because of her height, she wasn’t able to get a girl’s uniform that fit and instead wears a male one, although it doesn’t seem to fit quite right either. Her casual clothes tend to be very plain.
Backstory: Hotaru’s mother abandoned the family when Hotaru was only a couple years old, so she has no memories of the woman. In fact, Hotaru sometimes jokes that she has more memories of the housekeeper her father hired to take care of her when she was a child than her actual mother. Once she started going to school, the housekeeper wasn’t needed and is no longer working for the family. She’s not really sure what she’s should feel about her mother, not knowing anything about her. Hotaru’s father hardly talks about the woman he had married, only that his parents didn’t approve, resulting in a falling out between them. They’re part of a branch of an old family, but Hotaru and her father have next to nothing to do with the extended Fujioka clan.
Even with just her father around, Hotaru has a good home life, and she trusts him enough that she’ll go to him with problems. Although, she’s become more reluctant to tell him about the bullying she’s received, since all it does is worry him, and his complaints to the school haven’t gotten any results.
She’s part of the school choir and enjoys singing and is pretty decent at it, but doesn’t make an effort to stand out. Hotaru started playing the Demon Summoning Program on a whim when she saw it advertised on the app store as something new. Although she normally stuck to rhythm games, she got the hang of the rpg gameplay. She mostly just tried to collect demons she thought were cute and was vaguely disappointed that there weren’t any frog-like demons.
