basically to be honest this whole topic is because I need a new computer and have no idea what to get.

If you guys could just name a computer you have used for a while or one that you've heard is really good, that would be great.

Even better, if you can give a reason of why that comp is good. That would be amazing.

Obligatory 'Build it yourself because saving money and better results' answer.

Serious answer: Where you from? Can't give you reccomendations without locations.

The age of specific computer models (when it comes to desktop PCs) is over. It's all about the parts inside the machine now, and it is highly recommended that you build it yourself, or at least order the parts and have someone else assemble it for you.

Intel i5 or i7, or maybe an AMD Ryzen processor? NVIDIA Graphics cards are the most popular, but what budget are you on and what games do you want to play, and at what resolution? 1080p? 4k? How big do you want your SSD to be? Are you going air cooling or water cooling? etc etc.

Depends on what you're planning to do with that said computer. It also depends on how much money you're willing to spend. If you're a gamer then I suggest you buy one with an Intel I5 processor. This processor is usually ideal for gaming. However if you plan on using it for something else other then gaming then you could do well with an I3 too. I don't know much about AMD processors so I can't really say anything about them. Personally I stopped using a PC 3 years ago when I sold my old junk and bought a Lenovo laptop. It works very well but unfortunately it has an Intel I3 so I struggle with some games, especially new ones like 2015 and forward. However I plan to change that.

The processor wouldn't be the only bottleneck, @Vlad P. Onboard graphics cards are notoriously bad. It isn't until this generation of laptop chips, like the onboard version of the Geforce 1050/60/etc, that they've become usable for videogames without spending a fortune.

Well, I live in saskatchewan Canada.

I was interested in a new computer for the forums here and just typing stuff out like emails.

I don't do computer gaming, I mean I might now that you guys mentioned these different available computer parts.

It sounds like computer customization could be really cool.

Another question: how did you guys get introduced to computer customization?

oh yeah and computer budget is max 5k.

if you're not computer gaming there's little reason to spend nearly $5000 unless your job requires a high end computer, like a graphic designer or something. Even if you were going into the gaming scene, $5000 is overkill. 1000$ already gets you a very high end PC that will run whatever.

If anything, if you're only looking for a leisurely computer, you can probably build a decent one for 300-500$.

pcpartpicker.com is a great website if you want to get started. If you have no idea what you're doing, or just want to spend less time, you can search for other people's builds and just get a carbon copy of theirs.

Or you can choose to build a pc here, where it'll tell you the prices and what you need.

Check out that website too, that is where I get all my computer hardware. Been using this site for the last 15 years, and can vouch for their service and products.

@Gareth

And if you just wanna up your performance without building an entire computer, just get a graphics card (NVIDIA like those who posted above). And remember, if you up your graphics card, most of the time you need a bigger power supply as well.

And then you can get those copper processor fans too.

You can add little by little to your computer, and then transfer those parts over to a new case with a motherboard later, if you don't wanna drop $1,000 at once. That way you can increase your performance over time, eventually attaining a new badass dream-machine!
