Well, I mentioned this in the chat when you presented the question to me in real time - but I am not sure that you saw it. If anyone were to cast a curative spell or use something like a potion or an elixir on Raithen it would not be the same as if they had used it on a typical character. While Raithen is not on the same level as Gi Nattak (pheonix down = death), any healing magic or curative item would work on a limited scale at this point. Without any consideration on my part think of it like, 50% effective given how the genome has taken over his body. It may reach a point in this role play depending on how long we go where curative measures may not work at all or may actually hurt him. But that will have to be dealt with down the line. For now, just know that they are not 100% effective at this point.

Timeline

Over 2,000 years ago...
The Cetra are on their long journey to cultivate life on the Planet. A being known as "Calamity from the Skies" crashes into the Planet's northern polar on a meteor, gravely injuring the Planet. The Cetra gather at this location to heal the Planet. The Calamity from the Skies emerges from the crater bringing with it deceit and treachery as a great pestilence falls upon the Cetra and the Planet. The Planet creates six powerful Weapons to combat the Calamity from the Skies: Jade Weapon, Sapphire Weapon, Diamond Weapon, Ultimate Weapon, Ruby Weapon, and Emerald Weapon. Having nearly wiped out the entire Cetra race, the Calamity of the Skies is defeated and sealed in a geological stratum. The Weapons remain dormant in the same stratum as they have never had to act. The Cetra's numbers continue to dwindle, being swallowed up by the ever-growing human population. The Cetra assimilate into human civilization, but maintain their ancient knowledge and powers.

Welcome to Final Fantasy 7: SOLDIER. This game follows a timeline based on a little FF7 fandom, but as you read over the timeline post you notice that none of the famed characters from the series are mentioned. The reason why is because YOU are the main characters in this tale. This game has an overall guided plot with missions that reveal pieces of the main plot as you go. There are many roles writers can take on in this game. I want writers to bring their imagination and creativity to the game without going overboard. As usual with the fandom games I run, you do not have to have played Final Fantasy 7 in order to write in this game. You just have to have a passable reading and reading comprehension ability. I know it sounds silly, but it's a deteriorating skill on this site. Because of this, I am keeping this OOC post pretty short and straight to the point. There is enough material to read.

Please be sure to read the Timeline post, which lists the events leading up to where our game begins. You can use these dates to gauge your character's age. Overall, Final Fantasy 7 is a high fantasy game. You can find all genres coexisting peacefully in this setting. Magic is cast using crystallized Mako orbs called Materia. There are various kinds of materia throughout the series that perform different functions. For a run-down of the types of materia, refer to this article: Materia.

In Final Fantasy 7, there exist special red-colored materia that allows characters to summon divine beasts. Unique to this game and unrelated to the canon, the Shinra Science Department has been conducting experiments on SOLDIER candidates and have been experimenting with the DNA of these divine beasts. By imbuing the SOLDIERs with the genes of a summon, they create a frightening bio-weapon. SOLDIERs who show distinct potential are placed into ranks: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class. Only SOLDIERs are imbued with the summon genome and use the materia naturally granted by their parent celestial.

In Final Fantasy 7: SOLDIER, writers are allowed to make characters in multiple roles. The current playable roles are: SOLDIERs, Turks, and Shinra Troops to include Roboguard pilots and operators. I will give a brief explanation of each groups differences in regards to materia use and skills:

  • SOLDIERs, in this game, use only the materia naturally granted by the summon genome they are imbued with. They will use no other materia due to power balance.
  • Turks specialize in natural martial skill and advanced weaponry; however, like SOLDIERs, they are restricted to one type of combat. Their weapons can be augmented with materia up to 3 materia slots. They are often identified by their iconic unisex business suits. Currently, there is an open role for the leader of the Turk division.
  • Shinra Troop are capable of using materia slotted into their gear or weaponry. The tree most common spells Shinra troop use are: Poison, Silence, and Stop. They are the infantry and the closest thing to a classic soldier specializing in multiple weapons unlike SOLDIERs and Turks who only specialize in one primary weapon. Shinra Troop also carry items that deal devastating damage such as dynamite and grenades. Some Shinra Troop are also trained Roboguard pilots and remote operators.

  • Be Respectful. This game has a Discord Chat. I do not tolerate blatant or passive aggressive disrespect to any of the writers. I encourage you to avoid bringing subjects you are passionate or sensitive about into the Discord chat. If you are unable to respect others with differing opinions than yourself, then not bringing the subject up is the best deterrence to that problem. As a GM, I do my best to be respectful. I do have an assertive and military personality, because I am military. I try to avoid treating writers like soldiers, but if you see it happen, grain of salt. Seriously, take it with a grain of salt.
  • Activity. We're all busy. We all have lives. But what we all don't have is patience. If you can't see yourself continuing with this game or if you see yourself as the kind of person to bail on a game that hasn't moved in seven days, then do not join this game. Usually by the seventh day, I am prodding people, but we're not going to rush people. During missions, I will often set a Posting Order (P.O.) with a three day movement period. This means if the person hasn't posted in three days, then they forfeit their turn. Again, this is only during missions to keep the game from stagnating. What your character decides to do outside of missions is up to you and your writing partners. If a player is inactive for 14 days, I will PM him or her. If a player is inactive for 30 days, I drop them from the game.
  • Drama. Do not bring it here. I will be the first person to not tolerate any whining. This is a No Whining Zone. I have yet to have any problems with this in any of my games, and I like to keep it that way. It takes a group effort to facilitate a positive environment and my games mostly are full of mature and respectful individuals.
  • Summons. Did someone pick the summon that you wanted, and are unwilling to give it up? I'm sorry. Choose something else. You are allowed to choose summons from other Final Fantasy games as long as they have materia/magic spells.
  • Huge Pics. Scale those suckers down or link them. There is no reason why you should have a picture that takes up the entire screen.
  • Neon/Somber Font Colors. If you're the type of person who likes to use colors, avoid neon colors and dark colors. Neon colors burn the retinas and dark colors cannot be seen. No one wants to strain their eyes to read your posts. If I see it, I'm going to ask you to change it. Please google "HTML Color Codes" in order to find a link to a website that gives you variety of color codes to choose from.
  • Max Character Limit is 3. I want to give every writer a chance to make either of the three character roles. You can play whatever role you want more than once. However, you max out at three characters.
  • NPC/Support Characters. Yes, they are allowed. Let the GM know if you create a named NPC. This named NPC has to be someone that you think other characters would meet. Other players are required to respect your creations. You can make NPCs of other roles, however, you cannot RP them in a mission.
  • Bring your imagination. I can only do so much as a GM. I cannot hold your hand and make you have fun. You have to do that. I encourage you to interact with other writers. Take advantage of the Discord Chat to be able to directly communicate with your partners and set up some interesting stories between each other.

The Turks act similarly to an intelligence agency or investigative bureau, engaging in reconnaissance and espionage, or even black ops, including kidnappings and assassinations, on behalf of the corporation. They are consummate professionals, adhering to the mission no matter what. Due to the nature of their job, members are privy to numerous company secrets, and as such, become security risks should they resign.

They are well-known for wearing business suits even when immersed in bloody combat. Unlike the Shinra military, Turks wield various weapons—ranging from katana to fire arms to shuriken to martial arts—each operative specializing in one type of combat, and being capable of augmenting their weapon up to 3 materia slots. Like all character roles in this game, they too have limit breaks.

Currently, the leader of the Turks, the Head of the Investigative Division and General Affairs is an open role that can be claimed by a writer. If a writer does claim this role for him or herself, then I would want there to be an alternate in case the writer disappears.

The Security Department is in charge of the non-Mako-infused troops - The Shinra Troops. They make up majority of Shinra's military force, and are deployed more often than SOLDIER. This department has a rivalry with SOLDIER and extends challenges in the form of training sessions. The Security Department is a fallback for SOLDIERs deemed unfit to undergo Mako infusion. Within this department exists The Roboguard who was remote piloted as well as manually piloted by operators from the inside.

Rank System

The FF7 verse labels Shinra Troops as they would minions; therefore, the troops don't have a legit rank system. For this game, if the Shinra Troop are infantrymen, then use standard U.S. Army ranks. We're not going to go specifically into rank details. It'll be simple, Private and Sergeant. Their superior is the SOLDIER 2nd Class. If they are a Roboguard Operator it'll be Guardsman and Elite Guardsman. If we need to go into Navy or Air Force terms, then we'll worry about that if it ever comes up.

Midgar is the capital city and power base of the Shinra Electric Power Company in the world of Gaia. This is the primary setting at the start of this role play. Midgar embodies many themes in FF7. The greedy capitalism of Shinra and the authoritarian power the company can project, the environmental disaster that faces the Planet, and how new is rapidly replacing old, displacing the lives of many people. Midgar is the most technologically advanced city on the planet. Its large circular structure is supported above the ground by 8 Mako Reactors and a central pillar with various other supports around the city. On top of the structure lies the city proper, divided into eight sectors, while underneath it lie the Midgar Slums where the poor and downtrodden make their home.

Midgar was once eight individual towns but their names have been forgotten in favor of referring to the different areas as sectors. Governed as a police state, the city is home to some of the richest and most powerful people who run most of the city’s affairs from the central Shinra Building, which dominates the cityscape. Construction of the city began in 1976 to provide residence for the Shinra Electric Power Company’s growing investment and employment base. Because of the eight Mako Reactors, the city’s massive power demands are met, but at the cost of the surrounding countryside, which has become a barren wasteland due to the city sapping the surrounding life energy. Because of this, the city and its reactors are a prime target for terrorism by rebel groups like AVALANCHE who seek to restore the planet to its former state and to stop Shinra from sapping its life energy.

Midgar is considered a technological pizza in design. Although it was previously mentioned that there are 8 sectors, there is actually a ninth sector called Sector 0 at the center of the city. Sector 0 is the central district which holds the main headquarters of Shinra. Each sector has a Mako Reactor that provides it with electricity.

The Midgar Slums, the projects beneath the plates of the rich and wealthy, can be accessed via city train or hidden paths throughout the city’s sewer system. The train can be a risky method of travel for stowaways. The train will pass through security checkpoints between each sector, and the entire train will pass through a scanner that scans the train passes of all personnel aboard. Most stowaways try to ride the train and dismount before the train reaches the security checkpoint. This illegal act has allowed for criminal types to traverse the plates of the wealthy and prosperous and cause trouble. Street gangs tend to venture to the top, rob from the rich, but they do not give to the poor. Street gangs will also target innocents of the plate and harm them through assault and nonconsensual acts. Shinra Troop actively patrol the city by foot, vehicle, or roboguard, but they can’t always stop the crimes from happening.

An AVALANCHE safe house is rumored to be in the Midgar Slums but has yet to be found.

Writers can create common locations, whether they be movie theaters, restaurants, cafes, bars, fight clubs, etc. Whatever location a writer creates will be listed here for all writers to refer to. These locations will be able to be visited and appreciated by all characters. PM the GM once you create an establishment or place. I won't always see that you've done it.

Writers can create NPCs that are either well-known owners or workers of the locations listed above, or a face characters may commonly see around the city. The NPCs of writers will be listed here. PM the GM if you want to add a NPC to this list.

  • Writers are free to explore the 8 (or 9) Sectors of Midgar and make what they want of them. You can create drama for yourselves, but don't try to destroy the world or Mako Reactors. Leave that sort of drama to the GM as the GM uncovers the plot.
  • I expect the GM events and the free-flowing time that exists in Midgar to happen at different times of the year. Your character can be in Midgar doing a personal plot, and also in a GM event at the same time. The idea is that they happen on different dates.
  • Street Gangs, Mafias, etc. are people worth adding to the "Notable Characters" list. Especially if they're a big problem.
  • Font Color Discipline Again, do not use neon or somber colors. We want to be able to comfortably read your work, so don't do it.
  • No Large Pics If you want to use pics to jazz-up your posts, large pictures that take up the screen are not permitted. They look very bad and they don't make your posts look better. Shrink them, link them, or hide them. If they are hidden, they still better be small.
  • No OOC in the IC No OOC chatter in the IC. We have an OOC for a reason. Keep your fourth-wall dialog out of the IC. Thank you.
  • Police Each Other If you see a player violating these rules, please inform them that they are doing so. If they blow you off, then tell me. I'll deal with it. That's what I'm here for. My purpose is to make sure this game moves and is enjoyable for the players. I get rid of drama queens in a heartbeat. Also be sure to let me know if we have some "Bad Ass vs The World" types of writers. You'll know them when you see them. They are obvious, and I will get rid of them.

I'm still planning on having Lapin be at Bone Village, but I'm waiting on @Sarcelle Renard, since they've said that they want their character to be a subordinate of mine.

If they don't show up, I can probably whip up a RP post this afternoon/evening/night.

Hey all,

I am just putting an interest check out to see if anyone would be interested in playing members of AVALANCHE in the FF7 game. I RP 3 key members of the group, but having more player characters as AVALANCHE will make the game more interesting.

If you are interested, then let me know and I will design a character sheet for AVALANCHE members. In the discord, you'll have your own separate channel where you will receive mission briefs from the GM and be able to plot how to go about them with your group.

Hey everybody,

So this game has been running for two months now. There are a few roles that I'd be interested in seeing more of:

1. Turks
2. AVALANCHE (if there is an interest)

We're approaching the conclusion of two of our ongoing missions. If you think you'd be interested in this game, now is a good time to drop some CSes for review. Please let me know if you think you'll be interested in AVALANCHE. AVALANCHE is currently GMed by me, but having some players actually planning the sabotage I feel can make the game even more unexpected and interesting. :D

In the sense of the Turks, will you be wanting them played as classic Turks? Kind of like a Secret Service to the SHIN-RA Power Company? More like the separation of the CIA vs the Main Military?
