The mighty voidship Nova Dawn has known many masters and many crews, but for now you call her home. Many are the races and creeds of the outlaws and mavericks that sail aboard her, but they are united by the common goals of wealth and adventure. Each man his own master, and architect of his own destiny. While the Nova Dawn is a formidable vessel, her true value lies in her ancient star-maps ands aetheric lexicon, a trove of secrets and mysteries dating back to the age of Dreaming Gods, before the destruction of the Astral Gate.

Hi hello welcome to this thing that I am doing now yes. Essentially this is a science-fantasy, planet-hopping, treasure-hunting romp across a magical and mysterious universe. I'm drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources, such as Spelljammer, the live-action Thor films, Rogue Trader, the Elder Scrolls, Magic the Gathering, Outlaw Star, and many more.

Your character will be a crewmate on the Nova Dawn, an ancient and legendary voidship, its origins lost to the aeons. Somehow the captain of your privateer band has managed to get his hands upon it, and has recruited you, the dregs of the universe, to join his quest for fame and fortune. Given that this is a vast and infinite universe, the possibilities for your character are virtually endless. Magic and technology are one and the same in this setting, and there are many distant corners of the void forgotten or yet to be discovered. That said, I'm taking a loosey-goosey approach to building this setting. I'll present you guys with some starter ideas and the basic framework of the setting, but you're free to fill in whatever details you like.

Any thoughts on character ideas so far? As you might imagine there are a number of crew roles that need to be filled.

@Dead Cruiser You could make a list of crew roles you want / need filled and the number of free spots each crew role has? Maybe that will help some people?

Will this be a completely fictional universe? As in no earth? No milk street? Or rather like a parallel universe where our planets still exist but are somehow different? Or maybe just wayyy wayyy up in the future in a far away universe, but our universe technically is there somewhere, just out of reach? What's the idea for that?

I was considering a character that is like a savant/archivist. Someone rather intelligent and educated in artifacts, alien races, history, etc. that might be useful for a group intending to explore the unknown in search of ancient secrets and treasures. Perhaps they were a scholar or a smuggler of exotic items and artifacts previously.

If you're looking for more of a traditional crew member/space-farer type I can do something else.

@KahleenCuthald I have a rough, generalized list of roles that can be filled. Some can be combined or expanded as needed, I can be flexible about it.

And the setting will be wholly fictional. Sort of like Star Wars, humans exist but there is no Earth. Very little about the setting is really nailed down beyond a general primer I have prepared, so there's a lot of flexibility available for characters.

@AdvancedJ3lly That actually works quite well, as the crew needs someone to help research and decode the Nova Dawn's aetherial lexicon. Just ensure that your character has some business being aboard a pirate ship rather than on a research vessel somewhere, if you get what I mean.

And does the boarding party have a limit for how many may be that role?

No mention of 'toon' since I'll admit it def doesn't fit here at all.

Former would be Ordanence or Quartermaster, Latter, whatever.

@DeadDrop I feel like a lot of them are self-explainatory but let me know if any of them require specification.

Master-at-arms for instance would essentially be the leader of the boarding party, and head of physical security.

I could make do with about ten or so players. I plan to accommodate for inevitable dropouts.

@Archmage MC I'd have to see either. Though I wouldn't say there is a single, specific "space devil," though you certainly could have dealings with some kind of deity.

@Dead Cruiser I'd honestly prefer the robot. Heck, make it a robot that made a deal with the robot devil. I'm sure you'd like Dan Castilanetta as a character right? xD.

But its nanobots, so basically a walking talking 3d printer and decompiler that can kinda be gas or liquid and doesn't have joints and has a couple weird 'devil' powers I'mma steal from XCOM. Well, two to be specific.
