Heroes of Waldenkore

"The lorekeepers tell me that the world was once green, and that people could walk around in only their trousers. The sun used to be a bright point in the sky, so bright that it would blind you if you stared at it for too long. I grew up fantasizing about living in such a paradise. But like the rest of the children, those fantasies were quickly shoved aside when I first stepped above ground. Arkadia was now a frozen hellscape, and it would never been green again."

"We're told three key tenants from a young age. Uphold the city's defenses. Abhor magic in all forms. And finally, prioritize humanity's survival over your own. Our people are at war, not only with nature. The Shotum raid our gates and pillage our outposts in the tundras without provocation. They are taller, stronger, and are perfectly adapted to the frozen landscape. The Shotum attack Waldenkore in hordes,
and are supported by fel contraptions, animated by magic."

"When the hordes attack, we answer. We are the Knights of the Waldenkorps. While every citizen aged eighteen and above must see to the defense of the city, the Knights are Waldenkore's true military force. They receive the best training, and are fitted with the best equipment the smiths have to offer. The knights are charged with ranging out into the tundras, and fighting the Shotum where they least expect it. Despite the low survival rate among the Knights, we constantly push forward to ensure Waldenkore's continued survival."

Welcome to Heroes of Waldenkore! This is a new setting that's been sitting in my head for a while now, and so I wanted to test the waters with an interest check! The RP will focus on a small-ish group (4-5 players), all Knights of the Waldenkorps, as they range out into the tundra. While the RP will have combat, the focus is around survival in the tundras. Humanity's technology is strictly medieval, swords,
bows, crossbows, spears, catapults, and all sorts of other machinations from that time period. Magic exists in the world of Arkadia,
but humanity has come to abhor its use. Humanity's bastion, and final city, is Waldenkore, a large underground city that stays warm by harnessing geothermal vents.

If you are interested, let me know! If I can get enough interest, I will start posting codex entries to expand and enlighten the lore of Arkadia. Until an OOC is completed, I will be posting what progress on the lore I've made here on the Interest Check. Be sure to check back as this codex will be seeing a fair amount of updates as time goes on.

I'd be interested, but my post speed is about once a week due to busy life.
So if that's a problem then I'll opt out.

Well it seems I've got 4 people interested in this! That's enough for me to want to put some work into the setting. @Februari, @Genbor, it has been a few days since any activity happened on this thread. Are you two still interested in pursuing this RP?

If everybody is still on board, I will take some time this weekend to develop an OOC.

EDIT: Don't feel so stressed out about how many posts you'll have to pump out a week. I'm pretty casual with that stuff. All I ask is that if you're going to participate in this RP, that you are able to commit to it and at the very least communicate with the rest of the group if you're going to be able to put in a post.

I'm working on the OOC now. As of this moment, I am building the Codex to flesh out the lore of Arkadia. I will post sections of the Codex here on the interest check as I complete them so you all can get more of an understanding of the world. The OOC will be a short while before it up, so I'm sharing the information as I go so you can brainstorm for your characters when a CS template is made. ^^

Working on the History of Arkadia, this will most likely be the most time consuming part of the world building process. I will share what I have finished thus far. It includes information on the time before Arkadia entered its Ice Age, and the empires and events that were prominent during that time.

The Ancient Shotum section of the History tab has been completed, and I am now working on 'The Winter War'. Following that will be the Altioc Empire, then the Mythshan Empire. With those lore pieces done, I will then finally be on the lore pertaining to the current, frozen over world of Arkadia.

@Whoami

I have a few question about the Kurgan and Triarchan war. The Kurgans seemingly won easily because of their anti-magic equipment. Is there anything we could learn about what this anti-magic equipment is and how it works. If not, can you elaborate on why the Kurgans had it and why they only just now started using it?

If the Triarchan Republic fell so easily because of their reliance on magic, which was their undoing against the Kurgan's anti-magic, and they were said to be the strongest of the nations, why did anti-magic only surface recently? It seems incredibly powerful, and I'd think people would have experimented to find defenses against magic, so I would think it wouldn't come as such a big surprise for everyone.

@Genbor Hm, could've sworn I put an explanation for that question in the Kurgan Dominion codex entry. But looking back, apparently I've got that information in my OOC WIP. The reason why anti-magic wasn't explored by more nations, was because nobody even knew it was possible or existed. The First Magi's Tome had information on how to defuse mana. The Kurgans secreted away this information and used it to develop the anti-magic equipment that they used during the Kurgan Crusades and Winter War.

Information that I haven't elaborated on yet, is that the knowledge was lost when the Kurgan Dominion froze over, and nobody of Kurgan descent that lives in Waldenkore today has that information. Since Waldenkore is in ancient Altioc's land, the Kurgan Dominion is a long way away. However, the Lorekeepers and leadership of Waldenkore are aware of the First Magi's Tome, frozen underneath kilometers of ice and snow. Expeditions have been led through the Triarchan tundras to attempt to reach the Kurgan homeland, but they have all failed. That said, anti-magic would be extraordinarily helpful against the modern Shotum.

EDIT: Also, welcome aboard @VoiD!

Added the codex entries for the Winter War and the Mythshan Empire. With these entries complete, I can now move onto into more recent history. The events after the Great Gates of Waldenkore closed.

As a heads up, tonight and most of tomorrow I will be busy. So writing for the OOC wont be happening today or tomorrow. Just wanted to let you all know that I am still very much actively working on the setting for Heroes of Waldenkore. :D
