This is highschool dxd inspired roleplay. It is set in an alternate universe in which some events may run parallel to those of the series, but the story will not follow the set events of the series’ canon. That being said, players are likely to and (within reason) encouraged to take creative liberties. Use of canonical characters or items may be permitted. However, this will likely be taken on a case by case basis as we utilize what we need to build our own narrative.
The world as we know it is broken. Blissfully unaware to the truth of the existence of supernatural beings, humanity makes its way through the course of history. Unbeknownst to them, there was a war, long fought between three powers; God and his Heavenly Army, the Fallen Angels, and Devils. It raged for centuries with no end in sight. However, as time passed and each side suffered great losses along with the appearance of unprecedented intrusions on this great war, a treaty of sorts came to pass.
Humanity would be left to govern itself. No interference would be made by God or his heavenly army, though humanity would be free to choose who to worship and praise as they pleased. The fallen angels would be left to their own devices provided they refrain from any heinous activities. Devil would continue to rule over the underworld, although they would be able to play with the human world, much unlike the heavenly army.
This treaty, weak though it seemed, would come to uphold piece in the coming years for the three great powers. Still, this would do nothing to stop infighting among the devils. With so many of their royal and pure lineages having been destroyed or otherwise broken down, there was a struggle for power. Above the strife and anguish rose the Five Great Satans; Lucifer, Leviathan, Beelzebub, Asmodeus and Belphegor. Although not the originals, these five took up the positions, bringing order to the world of devils. In order to better manage their land and people, they split the world into five parts among them in which each Satan could assign smaller sections to peerages under their rule. And so order has been maintained, although for how long nobody can be quite sure.
This roleplay will primarily take place in the fictional Hiyo City which will be the primary area of interest throughout this roleplay. All names and places as of this roleplay will be treated as fictitious with no connect to real world people and events. The key location of the roleplay will be that of Shitenhoji Academy. More specifically, its high school branch. This will be the primary location for the rp and the tempoary location of the Heiress of the Naberius pillar clan.
The uniforms of this school are as follows:
In this roleplay players, myself included, will be taking the roles of the Naberius Clan. As you may have guessed, this peerage is comprised of the King, who has been tasked with gathering various evil pieces in order to build some sort of higher social standing. Together the characters must grow closer as well as stronger and traverse their new lives and find balance with their old lives. As such the core members of the family, revived through the evil piece system, take the roles of chess pieces; rook, knight, pawn, etc. Each holds its own purpose and abilities.

Nothing really magical or special about it.} Sacred Gear: {Does your character have a Sacred Gear? What is it? What does it do? What are its limits? Keep in mind that as far as DxD lore goes, at least to my knowledge, only humans can possess Sacred Gear.} Magic: {Does your character use any magic? What is that magic? What does it do? What are its limits? The criteria is essentially the same as a Sacred Gear. } Strengths: {Give three strengths. That is NOT a maximum, but don’t go overboard. How was your character brought to the brink of death? How did they come to be a member of the peerage etc. How long have they been a part of it; a day, week, month, year, etc. I’ll generally be lenient and leave you room to work here, but honestly, it should be coherent and consistent with not just who your character is, but also who my character is. If you wish, feel free to work with me, at least on the how and why they joined the family part. Everything else is all you.}
"My Allies will keep attacking until you fall unconscious... so knock yourself out."
Appearance: Standing at 5 foot nine inchs. She is a woman of average height and her weight though she prefers to not tell anyone is actually reasonably light. She takes good care of her own body and thus she can be seen as a symbol of beauty in the underworld. The only thing that tarnish's such beauty are the scars located on her person. She is very sensitive about them preferring to hide them as they are aren't attractive in her eyes, hence why she dislikes wearing revealing outfits and prefers to be very conservative in her dress. Name: Mercelia Phantomania II Age: "Should you really be asking for my age? Have you no manners dear?" Race: Demoness (Priorly a Demoness/Human hybrid.) Evil Piece: Bishop Notable Skill's: Sewing and knitting: She is an extremely good at creating and repairing clothes, to the point where all of her own outfits are actually made by her own hand. Most of them have simple magical properties like keeping the wearer warm even though the fabric appears thin and the like. Speaking: Her speaking skills are her true personal merit, she is capable of soothing a raging beast with her words alone simply by offering it compassion, hence why she is such a powerful summoner for her very words are the reason she has convinced them to contract with her. Knife Combat: When it comes to wielding very light and concealed weaponry, Mercelia is surprisingly good at it. Perhaps it stems from an idea of appearances where if a lady was actually showing that she was armed she wouldn't be very good at diplomacy but yes, when it comes to wielding a knife or multiple knives. One would be hard pressed to find someone as deadly and efficient as a pissed off Marcelia. Equipment: A specialised combat knives (she usually carries three on a leg sheath hidden under her dress.): These are her custom choice knives that are extremely potent cutting tools to the point a light drag of ones finger can cause bleeding. The knives have a special property to be able to harm the spirit as well as the physical body which is why shes fine with going into locations filled with evil spirits, even though she is effectively a magnet to the dead.
Magic:
As a Summoner she is capable of calling people to her location at her beck and call whom she has made a contract with, it is possible for her to make a contract with the living in order to act as a recall point.
All of her summons are lectured to not use lethal force unless directly commanded to do so.
An archaic soul of a knight from the medieval periods trapped within his animated skeleton, he is a chivalrous individual whom as he puts it would "Guard the mistress until I am nothing more then fertiliser". He is an extremely skilled swordsmen wielding a both the sword he wielded in life and the sword that his summoner granted him in order to give him an edge in combat, his menacing height of seven foot makes him look fearsome but in actuality he speaks with a polite and respectful tone, like one would speak to a lord or to a squire. He dislikes fighting weak opponents, but will not hesitate to subdue them if the lady feels agitated by them.
Ghosts don't have sexual organs so they look more like dolls
Nulia is a poltergeist that stumbled upon Mercelia when the latter had entered the former's haunt out of curiosity, the haunt was actually a theatre where Nulia had died on stage due to a faulty stage light and she found herself unable to pass on because she still believe she hadn't given her best performance she could muster. She is generally more a support summon where her innate invisibility and ability to pass through objects as well as interact with the environment makes her both a good scout and an extremely viable distraction.
Marcelia likes to watch her dances every so often in downtime so sometimes she summons Nulia just to see her dance.
Note that this particular lich isn't very strong compared to others due to his young age (compared to other lichs) and the fact that he is a human based lich meaning compared to a demon or an angel his magic is going to be weaker. Thats not to say you should let your guard down though.
Note that the stitching is apparent on all of them as their bodies had to be repaired, they no longer rot due to sustaining off Nicholas's magical energys, and thus really all they need to worry about is becoming damaged. It can also be noted that they are well washed and smell particularly nice as a result of the bathing and perfumes and cologne. They smell better then a lot of living people. Something the Cadavers themselves have greatly appreciated as it makes them feel more alive.
At her residence, Nicholas takes the role of head butler, he was once angry and troubled lich whom simply wished to prove to his fellow wizards that he was powerful enough to be accepted into their groups but his spell had misfired and the fact he still felt he needed to prove himself coupled with his latent magic power led to the birth of this Lich, at his rebirth and his new necromantic powers he raised the dead from a nearby crypt. The difference between the dead he raised and the term zombie is simply that he raised dead with intelligence and they were non-infectious, they simply were obedient to his will.
When Marcelia had found out about this new Lich she ventured in alone, ducking between the cadavers and only incapacitating them when necessary in order to reach audience with Nicholas. What she offered him was unknown but he says she offered him a chance to prove himself via helping her help others. So when she managed to convince him to work for her, he bought the 30 or so corpses he animated with him, and while he takes the head butler role, the animated cadavers work the other jobs learning skills they didn't know in life and they were generally allowed to roam.
On the battlefield they are Marcelia's general multi-purpose squad. While Balthazar is good in one on one engagements. Nothing beats having what is effectively a small army detachment and while the cadavers aren't spell casters (much to the cadavers own annoyance in some cases) they are very much able bodies able to wield weapons, generally the weapons they have access to are standard issue concealable hand-guns that they can hide in their outfits. So the Cadavers can put up a pretty respectable hail of bullets when working together or when coordinated by Nicholas.
Nicholas himself supports through the usage of his extravagant magics, which are much more offence orientated then Marcelia's own though that is not to say he doesn't have his defensive magics. His magic is also one of the reasons the Cadaver's look pristine and lifelike, the only way one would have to tell they were a corpse was the stitching (because they don't heal regularly they have to have grafts stitched on so it creates patchs of miscoloured skin.) and the fact they don't feel pain or bleed. Yes thats right, these corpses blink.
Mercelia is very protective of her catering staff's appearance and does not tolerate people makling jokes about it to their expense (doing so repeatedly is the fastest way to get kicked from her home.)
A malediction she became afflicted with the moment she slew a rather insane and rather evil Wight King, it is a curse that is inflicted upon those whom kill those old and powerful spirits. It comes with its own set of boons and banes but it is generally not a good thing to have.
Boons + She is able to essentially see the spirits of the dead with utmost clarity. She is essentially warmth to the coldness of undeath, which makes her a beacon to any undead in the area as the curse essentially makes her become what the dead desire most, something warm that they can touch to remind them of their time in life. This can also be seen as a negative as it will attract malignant spirits as well. This beacon can't be turned off, but its effects can be mitigated.
Banes - Spirits for all intensive purposes of touch are treated as solid which means she is effectively liable to be killed by even the weakest ghosts, which is a terrifying prospect as ghosts are very hard to place obstacles in front. However this can also be a boon as cause of the fact she can touch spirits she can interact with their bodies in turn as if they were alive which has numerous benefits. Sunlight is an irritant to her skin as a result of the curse making her be easily sunburnt. Light based magics or holy magics are even more effective against her then they would normally be. Even the simplest blade of light can cause her to receive catastrophic damage if she is not careful. The malediction causes a scar on the spiritual level meaning that no matter what type of healing is preformed the scars will always remain as a mark.
As a summoner one would expect her to have support spells. Which she does, some of them are healing spells varying from a way to simply heal small cuts and injuries, to stabilising a critically wounded individual and restoring them to fighting shape within the hour. Others are ways to enhance a persons characteristics (very useful to cast on either herself and others). She also has some support spells that focus on negatively impacting the enemy in order to better support her allies, some of which include ways of blinding, deafening and binding opponents among others.
Finally, her last bunch of support magic are utility spells, such as spells that can produce small floating orbs of light similar to a touch or a spell that simply helps her locate the nearest water source.
Personality Her personality can be described simply as selfless and driven, She feels it necessary to give everything all she has and she is willing to sacrifice everything for those that she cares for. A trait best exhibited by her refusal to deviate tasks that she can do herself, even if the list amounts to almost insane odds. Something that contrasts with her role as a summoner as she prefers to be very hands on getting into the thick of it to protect others around her in order to set a good example.
When it comes to people she has a few certain quirks. One such quirk is her borderline obsession with romance, she simply wishes to be married to a saintly individual whom shares much of her same merits and ideology, safe to say among demons her wishes are particularly conservative. So when she is acting with new people whom have shown a good first impression she can be quite flirty at least she hopes she is, because she can have a hard time formulating her words when she is flustered.
When interacting with people that shes not interested in romantically she acts rather motherly and concerns for their well-being, perhaps that what makes her remain popular among her undead servants, and why she is so good at diplomacy acting like a concerned yet intelligent mother that mediates two angry children. That is the tone of authority she usually uses when talking to people and it is generally effective at placating people as she speaks with both kindness and firmness befitting a mother.
She dislikes direct violence and confrontations, as she sees such things as unnecessary. Therefore she will attempt to avoid fights if possible, either by avoiding people or bargaining with them instead prefering to use her charisma instead of her fists in order to deal with the situation at hand. Of course this is all thrown out the window if someone triggers one of her blind rages...
Strengths + A pretty amazing Seamstress + Is an excellent hostess and carer of children, this makes her rather good at diplomancy. + Has very strong and noble values, she wouldn't betray you over a dinner of course, in fact she wouldn't betray you at all while you were in her home. + Is an extremely powerful summoner and fighter although she prefers to use diplomancy and peace talks instead of fighting.
Weaknesses: - She has tunnel vision towards people that damage her clothes or harm her those close to her, to the point where she'll personally throw away the entire strategy just so she could lay the smash-down on her enemies. - She can be a bit overbearing on her teammates, preferring to shove all the work onto herself to the point where she'd work herself into uselessness. - She is a lover at her core and her daydreams of love can sometimes (Alot of the time) distract her.
Born to a human mother (Whom was an Ex-monster hunter go figure) and demonic father during the Victorian era, inheriting the name of her grandmother form her mothers side per her wishs to keep the identity of her father a secret from any prying eyes. she lived a relatively simple early childhood in fact she didn't know much if any of her demonic heritage due to her mothers secrecy. The only peculiar thing about herself from looking in the mirror was the shade of her eyes, a rich unnatural purple.
It was only on the day of her 16th where her mother deemed her mature enough that she learnt the secret of her parentage, It was at that point her mother presented her with two options, pretend she never knew and simply live her life or try and visit her father. Natural being the curious young individual she was, she chose the latter option.
The next few years her mother imparted her knowledge of combat on her child and explained everything she knew about monsters. About what she should know about herself, about what she should generally try to avoid (explaining why she was never took to church like all the other kids.). Her mother also lectured her to avoid fights when possible, always use words but if push comes to shove end the fight as fast and as efficiently as possible with minimal damage.
So began her 50 year journey and yet she never did find him until she came back...
It was during her journey when she had stopped in a rural town in eastern Germany, The inhabitants of the village seemed to be scared of things, citing about a ghostly horde that invaded the town at night at took what they want. The local authoritys had said it was a hoax but... Mercelia knew otherwise. Ghosts were capable of being as smart and as clever as any human and because of the fact the supernatural was commonly thought of as a myth and the fact that ghosts could turn invisible well it only made sense they hide when the curious came prying.
So Mercelia stayed for a few weeks, always being careful not to be too suspect, she was simply a visitor and not there for any funny business. It was when she had lulled the ghosts into that false sense of security that she managed to follow them back to their base of operations. It was a large castle ruins where they seemed to be congregating around a towering crowned figure. She knew him now as one of the Wight kings. Immensely powerful ghosts that have been walking the earth for so long they simply become rulers of ghostly congregations.
She tried speaking up but she received no response. She tried to explain that the ghosts shouldn't be attacking the village but it didn't work, no instead the Wight King sent forth his champion. The hulking knight referred to as Balthazar (though she did not know his name yet at this time). He was silent with his soul was literally burning in his eye sockets.
Balthazar simply raised his sword and begun his onslaught. Quick thrust after quick thrust, it instantly caused Mercelia to have to go on the defensive with her knife blades, Swords were never usually fun to fight against. She was simply bidding for time, She needed to break off and go for the King. It was more then obvious this was a puppeteer trick for the Wight King never took his eyes off the dead knight. She just needed an opening...
And so their deadly dance continued Mercelia herself unable to make any ground against Balthazars centuries of expertise, She was literally expunging all of her efforts to avoid being butchered by his sword. She started to rotate around him edging backwards towards the Wight King, still doing all she could to parry deflect and dodge Balthazar's lethal blows.
Though it was all part of her plan to get close enough to the Wight King for when Balthazar went for another swing. She caught his blade and pushed it down in its cleave until it was embedded firmly in the ground. That would give her just a few moments which she grasped by turning around and throwing her blade straight towards the Wight King, a direct between the eyes hit more luck then skill considering but she had done it, she had weaved into a Wight Kings domain (he was probably one of the more weaker ones judging by the size of his host of ghosts.)
Though she didn't have time to dwell on it as his energies were lingering even though he techniqually was still fading and with a flash his remaining essence crashed into her body and she blacked out from the intense pain she was feeling as it felt like her body was ripping itself apart.
When she had came too in the woods outside the ruins her body had been patched up, not with proper stitching befitting a doctor no. But large rope like stitches used by a hand probably gloved with a barbaric nature that only reminded her of the ruddiness of and makeshift stitches of the medieval period. The fact that it was hastily done by a hand that probably only had a vague recollection of even doing it in the past sent warning bells, was she a captive. She took a deep breath as she pushed herself up into a sitting position heaving a little as she did so.
"Careful there madame." a voice calmly said with a tone of concern on his lips. His heavy German accent audible in his voice. Mercelia turned her head expecting to see one of the townsfolk but no for anyone it could of been it had to be him. The Skeleton saw the look of horror in her eyes and leaned against his tree with his arms resting behind his head. "I beg your pardon M'lady for not informing you before you gave yourself a freight." He said with a voice as smooth as ice. "Though I must say, that was a very noble thing you did there. freezing an entire repertoire of captured souls whom were finally free to go to heaven. Even at the expense of your own well-being both present and future." The skeleton spoke even though its jaw remained firmly clenched.
"Then why are you still here." Mercelia said spilling the first thing that came to her mind. "Myself? Perhaps I feel like I have unfinished business or simply it is because I fear death and what lies beyond. I place my trust only in that of a world I have trekked after all." The Skeleton said with what seemed to be a hint of a chuckle. "No matter, what happens next is that I simply wish to join you. To fight alongside you in the glory of battle, so that I may become a legend in death." The Skeleton said with a rather fierce tone as if it had been set on this goal for a long while. "And So Madam. Sir Balthazar, Knight and protector of the weak. Ask of you a simple question. What is your name."
"Marcelia, Balthazar, its Marcelia" Marcelia responded gently as she got to her feet, her favourite combat outfit ruined. "Well then Lady Marcelia." Balthazar said as he took a knee. "I pledge my loyalty to your cause..." 5 years later at the end of her 50 year trek around the world During this down period of recovery from the wounds though she'd never lose the scars due the fact her spirit got blasted to the point where it had to remold itself back to her body therefore copying any physical ailments onto itself therefore causing the scars to never heal. She spent this time reading up on magic and its application, having already become aware of what the Wight King's curse had given her in terms of boons and banes to which she used to convince a few spirits calmly that heaven was better for them in the long term and of course it helped that the troublemakers were scared of the hulking skeleton with burning eye sockets.
Though soon she received a letter mailed to her residence in France where she was staying temporary after a trip to africa where she was cased out of a village for being seen talking with a skeleton. Safe to say it made her life interesting but even so family matters were important and the family letter in question detailed that her mother had become ill in her ripe old age of 90, the doctors theorised she had little time left and so she simply wanted to see her daughter again as her last wish.
And so the 73 year old with the appearance of a 22 year old got on the first boat back to England packing a very large trunk that could fit a human. She had find the right person on the boat in order to smuggle that thing on, but she wasn't gonna leave Balthazar in France. So after those few days of boat smuggling and then finally catching said boat she eventually arrived at her mothers door step.
Standing right there at the entrance of the door was a white haired man with eyes a brilliant shade of purple whom looked to be middle aged, though showed no signs of physical wrinkles in his skin. He simply showed a mature look with how he dressed and how she presented himself. "Father?" Marcelia questioned as she lifted up her dress to step up towards the door. "Marcelia!" The man responded with a joyeous tone and a bittersweet smile as he pulled her up to give her a firm fatherly hug. "Come Come. Liz doesn't have much time left." He said quickly as he led her to her mothers quarters (Balthazar staying outside out of respect).
What happened in there was a simple thing... They exchanged words and they spoke for hours until her mother drifted contently into the after life but it generally boiled down to what was going to happen to Marcelia. Her father after apologising for his absence informed her of the death of her half-brother a man she had never knew existed but it was more of the fact that her mother was actually her fathers second wife as his first had died from unnatural causes. So she was the last relative to her father in terms of direct descendent so she was set to inherit all her father had even though she was a half-ling.
The Next 120 years seemed to fly by, she spent her time adjusting to her life in the underworld having inherited her fathers old castle (it was quite derelict and run down but considering the fact their was only herself and balthazar she didn't need the entire castle up and running when she got it.) however over time as she got more summons and thus invited them to stay into her castle she and her summons renovated it into quite the spectacle, now it buzz's with life, ironic considering its inhabitants but generally she has never felt more at home then in her castle. Her study stacked full of letters and romance novels (a onset to look for love spurred on by her mothers words.) Her wardrobe stocked with clothes shes knitted, anything spare she sells for more money to sustain her summons (although they do some work themselves in order to help sustain themselves).
but now in the present day, the question is how. How did she come come to join this peerage. Well that is a short tale, She was simply going out to discuss with some malignant spirits that were haunting a warehouse in order to do what she did best and negotiate them to leave, Balthazar came too but he simply wasn't fast enough to protect her when the fallen angel's bolt of light pierced through her chest. Of course the curse came into play and she was keeled over in agony. Such an action against his lady caused Balthazar to go into a battle frenzy, breaking the bodies of those that had dared committed such harm to his mistress like fly's to a hulking metal undead fly squatter. Safe to say he chased them off.
Marcelia lay where she had been struck, surrounded in a puddle of her own blood. It was also the first time she had heard Balthazar curse the gods above. Her eyes were slowly becoming glassy at the loss of blood, much to Balthazar's best efforts to clog her wounds, she hadn't expected it to be a direct hit, and neither had she been expecting malignant spirits to mean fallen angels. She had become to placated and happy that she had forgotten basic fighting etiquette. So as the light began to fade from her eyes she noticed a figure entering the warehouse and Balthazar quickly standing up, though her mind was too weak to make out what was being said, as everything faded to black...
Other: "I Chooseth this fate of my own free will... to serve the King of this peerage with all the power I can muster!"
