"Come on, just a little farther." A tear slid down the young girl's cheek as she ran, bare feet pounding against the frost bitten earth. Her breaths escaped her lips in small, milky tufts, hair raised on her arms betraying the chill she felt. But she couldn't stop moving... She wouldn't. A terrible shriek broke the silence, echoing in the forest behind her, urging her to run faster than she had ever done before. Her heartbeat matched her footsteps; quick but steady. It was fear that shone in her green eyes, fear that could be heard in her voice, but ultimately it was her determination that pushed her onward, running farther and farther into the night.
A luminescence around her neck caught her attention briefly as she pressed on. A black stone tethered to a silver chain had sprung to life, tendrils of a glowing green mist twirled around the object signaling the beginning of something much larger. The girl's steps did not falter even at this as she forced every ounce of her strength into a final burst of speed. A few more paces and she had all but reached her destination, crashing through the final lining of trees into an unusually rounded and even clearing. The moon, quite full in its current cycle, shone down unobstructed, bathing the girl in its light. As she neared the center of the clearing, she lifted her chin to gaze up at it, inhaling deeply and releasing a sad sigh.
By this point the mist had spread from the stone, surrounding the girl's body as she prepared herself for what was to come. The shrieks grew ever closer, glowing eyes seeming to appear from all sides, boxing her in to her current location. Creatures of darkeness surrounded her though they hesitated at the edge of the clearing, mindful of the light that would weaken their strength.
"You have me outnumbered, scores of you to one of me... Do you fear me that much that you would waste your chance now, when victory is all but yours?" She yelled out, addressing each and every one of the creatures that hunted her. Despite the fear that gripped her heart, she would not falter now. She would not give them the satisfaction. "It matters not, you will lose in the end. Just as you have now." As the words left her, nightmarish creatures charged at her from all sides, drawn in by her taunt. But all was in vain as the girl clasped a hand around the black stone, her eyes now mirroring the glowing green that had begun to fill the space surrounding her. "Éveiller!" In that instant, the mist appeared to ignite, causing the stone to rapidly expand. Any creature that had closed in met their end, the stone devouring each one it came into contact with as it grew. It planted itself into the ground, expanding outward some, but mostly growing taller until it had become a misshapen monolith. The same shrieks as before filled the air, now fueled with anger at having lost their prey; a girl they now assumed to be just as dead as their fallen comrades.
Responding to an unheard call, the remaining hunters drew back, returning to their masters so that they may await their next targets. Though it would be quite some time before the darkness would awaken, it seems their opportunity draws ever nearer.
All in all, I want this to be a fun and unique small group adventure. Casual, maybe even semi-advance when we feel like it... But as much as this is my baby, I do value the input and ideas of my RP partners so... If you think you might be interested in this general concept, but think of something that might add to its cool factor, then by all means please share. ^.^ I will also be hanging around (or will respond ASAP) to any questions about my current thought process on it, as well as details about the previous attempts.
Greatly looking forward to working with you, and touching up something that has been with me almost my entire writing career.
