I've been working 13 hour days all weekend. I only worked 9 hours today, so I was able to get up that "Reply All" post. I have tomorrow off, so I'll be able to do my Plot Moving post then. (Spoiler/Hint: Hope you all like montages, because I'm ready to get through bootcamp. LOL)

@Balthazar007 Quick question about the dice roll for Camden's latest battle:

How are the numbers broken down? My gut assumption was that the roll would favor Camden since he has 1) more Pokemon and 2) higher-level Pokemon, yet the roll favored Lutz with one level 9 Voltorb? (edit: also with Cherubi's grass-type resistance against electric-type moves)

And if it goes like this I might actually prefer to use Pokemon Showdown >_> I feel like sheer HP + Tackle power could have allowed him to win, fighting 2 level 11's to one level 9 haha

// edit 2: also forgot to put it in my end-of-post notes, but Dana deposited her Jigglypuff and put in a request for more Pokeballs. My bad there.

I see your concern, but I assure you. There is a method to this madness. LOL

So, the most important thing to remember is that your FIRST MOVE is critical to your dice roll. Your dice roll is based off two things: Your opening move and your Pokemon's level(s).

You want to use a move that gets a STAB bonus, and if you're able, you want to use a move that your opponent is weak against. In this case, your first move was Fake Tears. If you would have opened with Confusion (not used it as your second move), you would have had a higher dice chance.

The math is simple but would look long winded and confusing to write out. But, just so you know, if you would have started off with Confusion instead of Fake Tears, your dice roll opportunity would have been 49.

Basically, the logic here is that your FIRST MOVE gives a rough estimate of how well you will direct your Pokemon for the rest of battle. It's a gauge of how skilled a trainer is. As our Pokemon get to higher levels and we have more Pokemon on our teams, then levels will out weigh the opening move (AKA: Then brute force can make up for trainer skill.).

So in the case of this battle, Lutz won because he opened with a move that got a STAB bonus. I.e. he made up for his Pokemon's weak level with better strategy.

@Balthazar007 Okay, so the order of importance I'm getting from this:
1) Move typing
2) STAB + move power level (ie: 65 or 100)
3) level
4) number of Pokemon involved

Shouldn't the number of Pokemon involved play a greater role? Since I'm pretty sure that, if we'd done it on Pokemon SHowdown, Camden's team of two would have beat the level 9 Voltorb with tackles alone.

//edit: Also, am busy right now so my post will likely have to wait until either tomorrow (procrastination happens) or the weekend (if I'm a good human who has real priorities)

I don't deny your logic. So I will make an adjustment to my math that will reflect that. Per usual, I won't go back and change anything, but this change will effect future battles. If that is a major issue, I'll make an exception and go back to change it, but (no lie) that would be a headache.

That does remind me, did Crunch gain a level?

Not a whole level, since his opponent was weaker than him, but yes, he did gain experience. 20 divided by 34 is 0.588. So that's how much he gained.

@Balthazar007 For battles and whatnot, could I maybe write about a combo but give you a different move to calculate with at the bottom of my post? I'd prefer to be able to be creative with movesets, especially with Camden (seeing how he likes showiness over sheer power), and in my head using moves like Tail Whip before Tackle just makes more sense. This way, I get to maintain my creativity in my posts, and you get a realistic calculation (since the move would probably be used eventually, just not right away).

This is actually a really good point. Moves that lower stats usually are most effective when they lead.

In our last PKMN RP he did factor it in, I just can't member how he did, I think it affected the other Pokemon roll

I won't be doing as I did in that RP. I prefer the system I've built here, and that mechanic would complicate things too much.

Yes. I can do that. So, by default I will use the first move. However, if you explicitly specify another move in your combo, I will use that move. Not a problem.

@Balthazar007 Quick note:
Any time you defeat someone else in the league, they have to pay you 25% of their points (rounded to the nearest whole number), and vice versa. Furthermore, if you challenge someone that has more points than yourself, they must accept or take an automatic defeat, BUT if you challenge someone with less points than yourself, they may decline without any consequences...

Pretty sure Camden lost half his points, so maybe edit the post? And consider posting these rules in the CS tab with the rankings so I don't have to flip back when the time comes.

Also, Dana dropped off her caught Jigglypuff and put in a request for more Pokeballs at the top of my last post.

// Another thing: Would evolved Pokemon be able to use moves learned by their pre-evolution forms? For example, Clefable learns basically no moves after it's evolved via Moon Stone, and technically it should have learned the moves up to its level as a Clefairy anyway? So would using moves of prior evolutions be allowed?

Unless it's showdown your pokemon has access to all the moves they have ever learned, unless your talking bout evolving Clefairy and than it still learns moves as it lvls up that I am unsure

@Cerces22 Okay, that's good to hear. Am just checking because allowing Pokemon to use moves from previous evolutions is a bit iffy since prior evolutions can sometimes learn moves before their evolved form (especially the starters, which Dana has), so I just wanted to see where Balth stood on the issue.

Yea, you should have access to all moves the Pokemon knows as it lvls up. Excluding TMs HMs and egg moves those are a no go, but if you evolve the clefairy at lvl 20 idk if you lose access to any moves like minimize when it hits 25

@Cerces22 Ah, but I don't exactly know when which Pokemon evolved, and no one's keeping track, so there's the dilemma.

If you evolved a Pokemon (in this RP), you may still use all the moves it knew before the evolution. If you catch a fully evolved Pokemon, then it is subject to it's evolved form's level limitations. Basically, just use your better judgement; I can't keep track of everyone's move sets. BUT when I do notice something, I will kindly let you know.

Also, so that I don't have to keep track of everyone's Pokemon, you should alert me when you're Pokemon is ready to evolve. I keep track of leveling up as we go, but I don't always check to see if the Pokemon has reached the appropriate level for evolution. As for Pokemon that evolve through special means or items, I will work on that tomorrow.

Heard that, I will edit that tomorrow.

Also, so everyone knows. I'm going to try to put in a lot of time on this RP tomorrow, so if you have any questions, please let me know before then or sometime during the day. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I will be working 13+ hours a day again. And I work 9 to 10 hours Monday.

I'm excited for my "Plot Moving" "Montage" post tomorrow. :)
