Species Description:
Race Name: Trangkar
Race Information:
Average Lifespan: Provided they are not given life extension treatments and do not undergo periodic rejuvination the Trangkar live for about 120 years as an average. This can be significantly extended by the rich, some of whom have lived for centuries through periodic rejuvination and the use of drugs that slow aging.
Physical characteristics: The Trangkar are a very humanoid race, going so far as to be rather close to humans in general appearance with their two legs, two arms, head, and general body shape and other attributes. It is noteworthy that their skin is at least slightly bioluminescent and that most of the Trangkar will glow with a faint light from beneath their skin. This light changes colors and intensity depending on the mood of the Trangkar in question and serves as a very effective tell in determining the mood or emotional state of the Trangkar in question. This effect can however be controlled with effort and training, something that many Trangkar undergo so as to make themselves less easily read by those who would seek to manipulate them. The neutral glow for one of the trangkar is a very faint white coloration. It is also important to note that the changes are subtle and occur within the color that humans would describe as white rather than within a range that is actually distinguishable to humanity. The Trangkar see in such subtleties and within the color white particularly there are thousands of subtle variants.

Description of Government:
Regional Governors- The position of regional governors is only done by appointment and it is completely non-hereditary. These regional governors have authority over the planet/moon/asteroid/space station in question and are the supreme force of law and order on those worlds. It falls to them to create the court system for their world and as a result of this the laws differ wildly from one system within the Trangkar Imperium to another and often from one world within a system to another world within the same system. When the current governor of a region dies the position is auctioned off to the highest bidder out of the desire of the state to milk as much money from the process as possible. This leads to planets dominated by coporations, special interest groups, military juntas, and other forces that can amass the necessary funds to purchase the esteemed position of governor.
The Chancery- The Chancery is the legistlative branch of the government, functioning as the forum in which laws can be worked out and other issues can be resolved. The Chancery was founded in the early days of the empire as an effort to ensure that the people would always have a voice in the government. It is composed of representatives 'elected' by the residents of the various planets and other holdings of the empire. These representatives' numbers are based on the percentage of the total population of the empire that resides within that area, higher population regions having larger numbers of representatives and less inhabited areas have substantially fewer representatives. While this body was to serve as the voice of the people, and once did its job, it has become increasingly corrupt over the centuries. The rich buying homes on outlying worlds and getting themselves elected in absentia without ever setting foot on the planets they supposedly represent, corporations bribing the legislators with promises of profit and guaranteed returns through bribes, and the military gaining seats in the chancery as well through the use of loopholes that never specified what the populations had to be composed of.
*The loophole in question relates to the fact that it was never specified what a population had to be composed of. This means that an army if large enough is allowed to have representatives elected and sent to the Chancery.
Regional Archons- Each regional governor has a counterpart in the form of the regional archon. Notably this position can also be held by the regional governor if the regional governor happens to be in the military. Also of note is the fact that while the regional archon is theoretically under the command of the regional governor there have been many instances in which the regional archon has disposed or troublesome regional governors. This means that most often the regional archon is paid handsomely by the regional governor for his or her services and his or her loyalty.
The Emperor- While it is true that technically the Emperor is the supreme authority within the Imperium it has been a very long time since such power was actually utilized by the Emperor for more than small changes or petty celebrations. In the early days of the Imperium the Emperor was truly the ruler, and great Emperors such as Vorth Nis'Visnath Nis'Eisnven Nis'Volrin Nis'Lordrac commanded and ran the empire with an iron fist and a keen eye for what needed to be done. In the old days Emperors would command wars themselves, often serving as the supreme commander of the military in truth, now such is left to the generals and the Emperor mainly serves as the rubber stamp to approve actions and the figurehead to which the nation's masses of people pay homage to.
Type of Economy: Mercantilism
Economic Prosperity: The Trangkar Imperium is an economic juggernaut, but one that is unstable and teetering on the edge of collapse. It lurches from one exploitation to the next, swallowing and assimilating worlds into the endless cycle of exploitation and profit. Without almost constant growth the issues inherent to the system would begin to become more clear as only the steady influx of new markets and new resources has managed to kep the bloated giant that is the Imperium's economy profitable. The rich are growing ever richer and the poor grow ever more destitute and exploited. However due to the constant expansion there is little need to raise the taxes above their already high levels and the influx of new markets allows for it teeter on without putting quite enough pressure on the system to cause it to break down.
Description of Economy: The Trangkar Imperium's economy is something of an oddity in that it is a true example of mercantilism and classic imperialism in space. Primitive societies are forcibly conquered and integrated into the empire and forced to serve as markets from the advanced manufactured goods which are churned out in bulk by the non colonial worlds in the empire. Further these worlds also serve as mines from which natural resources of various kinds are extracted so that they can then be processed and transformed into manufactured goods. Colonial worlds are prohibitted from trading with any sources other than the non colonial worlds of the imperium and this helps to ensure that there will always be a market for the goods that are produced. Due to the fact that in time colonial worlds do eventually reach a point at which they are no longer colonies, a steady influx of new colonial worlds is always required.
