In Search of Gaea: A Seafaring Fantasy Adventure

A long, long time ago, mankind lived on the land. Man built great cities which climbed to the heavens. Man was beholden to the earth and sky, but they could not control the mother sea. Man grew greedy, and coveted more and more, until he was finally punished for his greed. The mother sea took the land and sky from man, and brought all life back to her bosom. The technology and power mankind held before was lost, but mankind survived. People were forced to live in harmony with mother ocean, and while many built villages on the small islands remaining, some took out and built great floating cities.

The Imperial City of Galma is one such place. In 1652 AF, Crown Emperor Gaius Starwind set the world ablaze with adventure, promising untold imperial riches to those who could find the lost city of Gaea, the old capital city of mankind, long lost and buried under mother ocean’s waves.

Hello! Welcome to In Search of Gaea! This rp is based off of many fantasy stories and games that deal with a more beautiful post-apocolypse: the waterworld theme! Of course, we won't have any Kevin Costner walking around with gills or any Dennis Hoppers with eyepatches in this RP. I mean...maybe. But this is more inspired by JRPGs and anime than by famous Hollywood flops. Go ahead and click on the hider to get an info dump on the world and how it works!

I hope that my info dump helped! If you're interested, go ahead and drop a post! If you have questions, and I expect there to be a lot, go ahead and ask! I'm always happy to help ease out the wrinkles of world-building and make this a more understandable world. Just consider this: characters on ships sailing the seas, searching for ancient artifacts, learning magic and battling huge and sometimes horrifying sea monsters. The landscapes, the places we visit, will be alien, awe-inspiring or nightmare inducing. And that's half the fun!

I'll have to consult with the world codex about cute mermaid girls. I'm going to go with a maaaaybe since this setting is more anime than grungy Kevin Costner.

(Also, you just HAD to skip over me sandbagging that movie, didn't you)

I had to instantly reply after seeing waterworld. The "paper scene" was all I could think of.

Wow! I’m floored and humbled by all of this interest already. I’ll try and get a cs skeleton out soon, and I’m willing to build on any questions or answer anything about the world and lore from questions anyone has.

Thank you all for expressing your interest!

@DruSM157
Questions:
Is Aether restricted to Sun and Moon, wind and water respectively?

The Aetheric Engine. How exactly does it work? I don't need a scientific explaination for this magical object, but I'd just like to know how exactly it aids the ships in this world.

Adding onto that: Ships. How advanced in seafaring tech are we talking here?

Also,

I await confirmation on waifu. It will determine whether or not I run goil or boi

Yes,magic is strictly between the sun and moon. I want to keep the magic system simple and difficult to abuse. Mind you, wind and water have multiple applications.

Most ships that sail the seas have sails and an aether engine, these engines provide momentum up water boundries, protect the ships from beasts and can even hide the ship if its being stalked.

The engines are powered by aetherite, crystals found in the water that have strong aether in them. Aetherite can be used to power ships and create aether-forged weapons.

Hmmm. How does the engine protect the ship and hide it? Magic, I'm guessing, but how does the application of it play out? Does it blast the beasts with pressurized water or something?

I'm guessing that aether-forged weapons are greater than their metallic counterparts, but how much? Is it just a durability difference, or do they have special abilities tied to them because of their aetheric nature?
