The Hylians are the original race of Hyrule that worship the goddess Hylia, from which their name derives. It is said that they were created by the Goddesses and lived atop the clouds before the kingdom's founding. Physically, Hylians resemble the other races of humans, and the only difference appearance-wise between them is the Hylians' long, elf-like ears that supposedly enable them to hear special messages from the goddesses. Their heritage also gives them unique psychic and magical potential.
The Gerudo are a reclusive tribe of humanoids hailing from the Gerudo Desert, from which their name derives. The tribes consists entirely of women. According to ancient legend, every hundred years a man who is destined to be their king is born. The Gerudo race have round ears, dark skin, golden eyes, red hair, and sharp bird-like nose. Gerudo warriors frequently wield glaive-like weapons and scimitars which suit their physical builds, but it is not uncommon for Gerudo to posses magical abilities. Males, or "Voe", are forbidden from entering their settlements, though exceptions are made for for notable males given honorary membership.
The Sheikah are an ancient clan of ninja-like warriors sworn to protect the Royal Family of Hyrule, even after death; as such they came to be known as "the Shadows Folk". They are generally skilled in magical and combative art. The physical appearance of the Sheikah is similar to that of the Hylians, only being distinguished by their red-colored eyes, white hair and extended life spans. Most Sheikah live in the Hidden Village.
The Kokiri are a child-like and secretive race native to Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods. Each Kokiri is accompanied by a guardian fairy that functions as a friend, parent and teacher. These fairies also help the Kokiri to stay in contact with one another and find their way in the Lost Woods. The Kokiri believe they will die if they leave the forest, and therefore, they usually never leave their safe haven and know nothing about the outside world. The protector and father of the Kokiri is the Great Deku Tree. All Kokiri are ageless, and while they appear as Hylian children, most have existed for centuries. They are well-known for their distinctive and traditional green garb.
The Gorons are a humanoid, rock-eating race that dwell in the mountains. Despite their hulking appearance, Gorons are a relatively peaceful species. They are usually considered, perhaps superficially, to be of low intelligence. Gorons are shown to be resistant towards fire, lava, and magma. Gorons can curl up into a fetal position and roll at very fast speeds; in addition, Gorons with magic can even sprout spikes if rolling fast enough.
The Zora, sometimes referred to as "Sea Zora", are a race of aquatic creatures. While still generally humanoid, the Zoras resemble various marine creatures in their body structure. They are generally covered in silver scales, which give them a pale blue sheen from a distance, and have dark blue spots on their extremities. Where humans sometimes have long hair, average Zoras have rear-hanging caudal extensions of their heads shaped like the tails of dolphins. Compared to the other humanoid life, the Zora are long-lived, sometimes living several centuries.
