Over a hundred years ago, the mindless humanoid abominations known as the Titans appeared. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, humanity was nearly pushed to the brink of extinction upon the arrival of the Titans, whom devoured humans without mercy to feed their apparent endless appetites.

In an attempt to safeguard the remaining survivors from such beasts, humanity constructed three walls: Wall Maria, Wall Rose and Wall Sina, which would gift humanity with a century of peace away from the Titans. Nonetheless, this would not stop the Colossal Titan, far larger than any other Titan seen before, as the being would breach the farthermost wall, sending humanity into havoc.

Yet, despite the catastrophe, humanity is not without its heroes. Among the survivors of the Shiganshina disaster, a small group of teenagers emerge from the wreckage to take the battle to the Titans. Battered and bruised, these young men and women will become fearless leaders of humanity, and perhaps uncover the hidden secrets of a world long gone.

This will be a reboot of Attack on Titan: Somnium from the ground up. Those in the previous rendition will be automatically grandfathered in should they chose to join, while the rest will be subjected to an application process. If you decide to join, please be aware that there may be some lulls regarding posting ability, and that you are okay with this.

The roleplay, like it was intended before, will be following a group of kids as they live through the Shiganshina event, whom later become full-fledged cadets, and then eventually Scouts. Other characters a part of either the Garrison or the Military Police eventually will be allowed for character creation, although the Survey Corps will be the sole focus of this roleplay.

Death will be a possibility in this roleplay, and you should not be afraid to ax your character given circumstances. The GMs may ask for your consent to kill off your character for story progression, and PvP deaths should be considered with consent as well (should they happen). Mature scenes can and will take place, however, intimate scenes should fade to black or be taken to PM.

Bastien is around 6'4", clocking in at 156 pounds. His skin is covered in freckles, and he has a faint two inch long scar on his left wrist. He's rather wiry, with an average amount muscle on his arms and chest from weight lifting. His legs are long and allow him to run very far, very quickly.

_Biography

Bastien was born as Dimitri Martin, and was raised in a poor part of the Shiganshina district, beaten by an abusive father and with no mother to know. He had no siblings, and was sealed away for much of his life. It was because of this he suffered from depression. One day, after a beating, his father left a knife on the kitchen counter when he left for work. By this point Bastien had given up on escaping or making his life better for himself. He waited until his father came back, then killed him, stabbing him six times in the stomach and chest. There was a fight before he managed to gain the upper hand, and the commotion drew the neighbors to inquire what was going on.
They saw Bastien trying to slit his wrists and almost succeeding. The husband tackled him, attempting to knock the knife out of Bastien's hands. Thanks to this, he only managed a shallow cut in his left wrist, still bleeding exponentially but not striking the arteries. After they nursed him back to health they began to take care of him, never speaking of that day. They were still poor, but were far kinder to Bastien. He learned to open up to them, telling them of the atrocities his father committed. Just as he began to recover from the horror he experienced at home, the titans broke in.

Bastien is an untrusting individual. When offered the opportunity to work with someone or by himself, 10 times out of 10 he'll choose going solo. He stays silent most of the time, opting to listen and observe rather than actively participate in the conversation. However, he does occasionally engage in conversation with other soldiers and cadets, telling the nightmares he experienced when the colossal titan broke through. Despite Bastien's stoic silence, after a few smuggled drinks he opens up, sometimes more than you could have ever wanted him to. He'll share laughs, maybe even confide in you, but once he's sober again, it's back to the normal quiet. He ignores everything that happened, opting to never speak of it again. Bastien could care less about his teammates, concerning about whether or not they get the mission done. He suffers from PTSD thanks to the titans breaking in, and often wakes screaming in bed.

Originally mysterious to her fellow comrades, Tanner has since then opened up more to the world. While Tanner still tries to hide her obsession with the woman that haunts her dreams, she is–to an extent–capable of freely conversing with her friends. Nonetheless, despite Tanner withdrawing from her secretive nature, there is still some confusion surrounding the cadet, namely with her friends and superiors still identifying her as a male, when in fact she is truly a female.

Since joining the military, Tanner has become a sucker for romance, most notably after falling in love with another cadet during the dangerous mountain expedition. The cadet, known as Gabriel Moreau, happens to be someone Tanner is confident she can confide in. While her friends are more than capable bringing laughter and smiles to Tanner, Gabriel is surely the one that brings out the most. Despite being inexperienced in matters of love, Tanner prefers Gabriel and wishes to spend all the time she can spare with him.

Tanner Harwell was born as an "only child" to the Harwells. Despite growing up in a single child household, Tanner always felt that there was more to life than she was seeing. Tanner vaguely remembered an older woman watching over her as a toddler, and the picture frames within the house included someone she struggled to remember, but felt as if she knew them. Her parents would never tell Tanner who exactly the woman was, and tried to keep their daughter focused on her studies to take over the family bookstore. Nevertheless, the woman wouldn't disappear from her thoughts, and Tanner was willing to go the extra mile to find out who this person had been.

Feeling that the soldiers in Shiganshina would cast her off as a nuisance if female, Tanner adopted a male persona to investigate rumors and interview any soldier she could find. Tanner wished to find out who the female happened to be, but all her searching was to little or no avail. Most soldiers would give her vague information or none at all, especially those of the Survey Corps, who would rather keep their mouth zipped for reasons unknown. Regardless, Tanner refused to let her struggles bring her down, and she gathered all her notes in a journal in an effort to make any connections she could.

That was, until the world had been torn asunder. On a fateful morning, the citizens of Shiganshina were reminded that they were trapped in a bird cage upon the appearance of the Colossal Titan. Witnessing the disaster first hand, Tanner watched as her neighbors were devoured like cattle while fleeing from the Titans. Hoping her family was still alive, Tanner rushed home, only to see the bookstore crushed under a large section of the wall. Blood coated the rubble like splattered paint--a sure sign Tanner's parents were deceased. Hysterical, Tanner dug through the ruins as fast as she could, until someone had screamed for their life nearby.

Locating the screaming with ease, Tanner watched in horror as a Titan picked up a woman as if she was a snack. However, what struck Tanner the most was a young girl stare in fear at the colossal beast as it went to chomp down on her mother. Tanner knew she had to make a quick decision, and after summoning a mountain of courage, she ran towards the Titan, snatching the child in her arms as they made their escape. Together, the two managed to reach the gate to Wall Maria just in time to secure a place on the boats, only to watch the Armored Titan crash through the gate itself.

Now deep within Trost, both of them would had been doomed to a terrible life as refugees if it were not for the Harwells' connections. Seeking refuge within the Stuhr household, Tanner tried her best to act as a protective older sister for the child, yet the effects of Shiganshina continued to change her. Seeing thousands of refugees sent back to die in an expedition that everyone knew as another falsehood so those deep within the walls thrived and those further out continued to suffer had changed Tanner. Coupled with her burning desire to locate the mysterious woman, Tanner worked towards joining the cadets to fix the world as it once had been.

Keeping her male persona, Tanner was subject to the struggles many soldiers had experienced during their training. Despite the instructors ridiculing the cadets at every moment, Tanner pushed on, and in the process, had made a few friends. One of these cadets, however, was someone Tanner constantly had problems with. The cadet, Gabriel, had stolen her journal on a night fishing trip, and the knowledge that someone else knew some of her secrets was constantly nail biting for Tanner. The two struggled to get along, but by the time they were to suffer the wintry mountain hike, everything changed. Inquisitive as ever, Gabriel prodded away at Tanner, and the bond they had eventually became one of an awkward love when he had found out she was a truly a girl.

Tested by painful injuries and other circumstances, their feelings grew strong enough to survive anything the world could throw at them. While Tanner continued with her training, it slowly became more obvious that she was something else, mainly because of her girlish appearance that she grew less worried about each day. Still, all training must come to an end, and graduation was to be. Three long years of constant rigorous training had come to an end, and all her hard work earned Tanner the top place within her division. By then, Gabriel had changed Tanner's outlook on life, and she was ready to follow him instead of joining the Survey Corps, but the Colossal Titan once again had different plans for Tanner and the rest of the humanity...

Mary Gardner was born sixteen years ago as the fifth child to the Gardner family. A family with large fields to tend to within Wall Rose, Mary's childhood was mostly helping her parents grow crops and livestock for the good of humanity, but her older siblings rarely had needed her help. As a result, Mary was usually seen playing with the ponies and other animals, or in rarer cases, sneaking away with a few apples or other delicacies to the nearby lake where she watched geese swim around. Her father often scolded Mary for her childish behavior, but her mother was always waiting for him to leave before handing Mary a pastry or a sweet with a smile. Some of it would often be fed to the animals, but Mary usually kept the sweets to herself--her sweet tooth certainly enjoying the treats.

By the time Mary had experienced her eleventh winter, the disaster at Shiganshina had happened. Thousands of refugees were flooding in, straining the family's ability to produce food. Resources were scarce to the point that even the Gardners were struggling, and soon her parents had to make a decision they did not wish to make. Being forced to lighten the load, her parents sent Mary away to become a cadet and join the military, where she might have some actual food rather than what they could scrounge up. It was a decision Mary lamented, but she preserved through the training and was soon ready to graduate. Or so Mary believed, when the Colossal Titan had come to threaten humanity's future once more.

Much unlike her younger sister, Marissa is a more friendly face around her comrades. Marissa rarely hides from socializing, and welcomes all those under her wing to come to her with their problems. As a result, Marissa has zero tolerance for hazing and would much rather prefer if everyone got along. This continues to result in a strong bond formed between Marissa and her fellow soldiers, and many jokingly call Marissa their mother for her tendency to look out for her comrades. Unfortunately, the world, as beautiful as it is, is also merciless, and the bonds often leave Marissa struggling to cope with sorrow despite all that she has seen.

Marissa Harwell was born as the first and oldest child to the Harwells within the Shiganshina district. Despite being born into a middle-class family, Marissa was often at odds with her parents and their choices. Marissa felt that the Harwells' were trapped with their social status, and she sought to find a way to elevate her family's lower status to, if luck permitted, similar of those deeper inside the Walls. While her parents tried to groom Marissa into taking over the family business, she had set her sights on the Survey Corps one day as they passed through Shiganshina.

Marissa's parents, of course, objected to their daughter joining the military, but it was a struggle, especially with another child soon on the way. Eventually, her parents had relented and allowed Marissa to join the military. Joining at an early age, Marissa experienced first hand the painful and deadly struggles that the Training Corps were subject to. Marissa saw the people leave terrified to return to their original lives, the gruesome injuries, and perhaps, the occasional person who could give no more, keeling over and resting forever. While Marissa persevered through the training, it was during this time she had met another cadet by the name of Mateo.

Mateo struggled to fit in, being alienated by military life. Nonetheless, Marissa saw to Mateo, and in the progress of training, helping him fit in with the rest of the cadets. This would form a bond between the two cadets--a bond that would outlast even the end of their training. While Marissa did not achieve as high a ranking as Mateo, she managed to finish her training as number four of the top ten. Rather than join the corrupt Military Police, Marissa followed Mateo into the Scouting Legion, and quickly made a name for herself. Her experience soon found Marissa a place in a specialized squad alongside Mateo, where she would follow in his shadow in terms of promotions.

The missions that the squad was given were high-risk. So dangerous that Marissa's and Mateo's squad was the last one remaining alive, but their luck would soon run out. Ordered to investigate an old fort visited by deserters, Titans slipped through their ranks, catching the squad off guard and obliterating the three other squad members. Struggling to survive, the duo were left with no gas after a long battle, only to be saved right before they became food for a fifteen meter Titan. Unfortunately, the squad that was under Captain McLocken had lost one of their men saving their hides, and Mateo and Marissa were court-martialed--discharged from the Survey Corps.

Left to split from their partnership, Mateo and Marissa went their different ways after farewells. Mateo returned home to help his nephew, but Marissa felt guilty when she thought of returning home after being thrown out of the military. Having gone against what her parents wanted, Marissa was afraid to return home like the few times she had visited in the past. As a result, it was a lonely two years for Marissa, who spent her days travelling the walls and moping inside taverns and inns whenever she could. During this time, Marissa suffered a momentary lapse of judgement, turning to the bottle as she felt responsible for her comrades' deaths.

However, Marissa's world would soon turn upside down once more. The disaster of Shiganshina had happened, and left Marissa in a worrisome state wondering if her family had managed to survive. It filled Marissa with a new resolve as she desperately struggled to reach the rising tide of refugees to find out the truth, but she was soon scooped up by the same military that she was discharged from. According to what she was told, a certain captain used his own personal opinion to sway Marissa back into service, and as a result of Johan's opinion, she reunited with Mateo.

While Marissa was grateful to see Mateo once more, the constant watch over them for the first year made it nearly impossible to search for her family. Both Mateo and Marissa were sent out on various missions, although neither of these were deemed special or high-risk until they were trusted once more. During this time, Marissa heard rumors of a child prodigy within the 104th Training Corps that oddly looked like her, but before she could investigate, her superiors swamped Marissa with the paperwork of a Lance Corporal. Nevertheless, Marissa, like all soldiers, know that duty comes first, and she won't make the mistakes she made in the past again.

Narcissistic like most of Wall Sina's inhabitants, Jakob, in simple terms, is a pain in the ass. As he happens to be overly confident of himself, Jakob is more than willing to challenge anyone's opinion or belief on any matter. Sometimes this has turned out to be a simple verbal altercation, but Jakob has exchanged fists in the past to get his point across. While Jakob is skilled with the gear, most cadets and military personnel wish that a Titan would simply eat him due to the cadet being largely a nuisance. To those that would think such thoughts, Jakob casts them aside as if they were weaker than him during his loud boasts.

Jakob Henschel had been born as the only child to the Henschels, a rich family with a militaristic background. Residing deep within the walls, Jakob had everything in life and no fears, often boasting that he could take on ten Titans at once despite living so far from them and never seeing a Titan in person. Growing up, Jakob had a small clique of companions, where they would often showcase their strength and live as denizens of Wall Sina have done for years. The Military Police had often been involved because of incidents his clique caused, but most didn't dare to touch Jakob because of his family's status. Those that did were often met with fists, and their judgement challenged by people swayed by a large sum of money.

While Jakob had soon reached his twelfth birthday, his parents held him back to ensure Jakob's training would be perfect. However, by Jakob's thirteenth winter, Shiganshina exploded with Titans, falling as a result. His parents had been so arrogant that they held Jakob even further back to ensure his training was in good hands, going as far to call everyone in Shiganshina cowards. By the time Jakob had been allowed to join the rest of the cadets, he was a well-versed trainee, but his boastfulness had made all the other cadets not want anything to do with him. This lack of teamwork and respect for his comrades had shown on the day his graduation came, and Jakob failed to place anywhere on the top ten. Angry, Jakob was ready to contest the rulings, but the Colossal Titan had other plans for the cadet, as its appearance had with all of them.

The life of a young man growing up under the shadow of a military success was expected to be one of impressing. That was certainly the case for Gabriel, who struggled to keep in shape, both physically and mentally. His father expected only the best from his healthy and eldest of three boys. Many children didn't seek friendship in him, because he spent most of his time trying to perfect himself. His world came crashing down when his father was killed in action, however. The young Gabriel struggled soon after, trying to find a new meaning to life. He resorted to thrill-seeking, provoking the guards within Shiganshina by joining small gangs filled with troubled boys.

Gabriel's mother, a cripple bound to a makeshift wheelchair, was always troubled by his behavior soon after. She knew that his lifestyle even before his father's death was unhealthy and always sought to comfort the boy. When a scuffle broke out between the gangs of boys, Gabriel took a defensive approach to a new member, having grown protective of the few people he opened up to. Unfortunately, the gangs abandoned him after he received a large cut to the side of his face. After returning home a bleeding mess, his mother scolded him, and for the first time ever was able to reach through to the young man, who had finally poured out his true feelings. Life afterwards became better as he reached the age fourteen. Although he has a not-so-welcome reputation in Shiganshina due to his time with ruffians, some have begun to open up to him once more after leaving his old lifestyle. Some rumors have even spread of him looking towards a military career...

Gabriel can be considered by most to be a level-headed person, often using rational thought to work out an issue rather than take an emotional approach. While this may be mostly true, Gabriel is good at hiding his true emotions, only really breaking at times of major stress. His time in a young boys gang has led him to more fights than he can count, giving him a bit of scorn towards fights that don't lead anywhere or have no greater purpose, especially ones that involve a friend or two. Despite his tough up-bringing, Gabriel has grown to be a compassionate and soft individual, as evident as when he took a blow for a gang member, leading to permanent scarring on his cheek.
