Welcome to FTL: Faster Than Light. You are entering a roleplay based off Subset Games’s widely received game of the same name. Here you will be taking the role as a crew member of the FSS Defiance, a Lanius Battle Cruiser. It is five years after the destruction of the Federation’s Home Base after the Last Stand Defensive Force was ultimately destroyed by the Rebel Flagship. Now the Rebel Fleet swarms over the known galaxy, raiding innocent star systems of their hard work and resources.
Luckily there is hope. The Deviance has a built-in A.I known as Val-9000 who has designated several critical targets for the Federation to attack. Val-9000 is also the ships piloting system, completely self-reliant, though other functions such as weapons and shield management are better with the aid of operator input due to processing restraints.
Sadly, the rebels have found the Lost Moon Base in which the Deviance was under construction, and as such, not all systems are currently online. You must act quickly if you are to be the last hope of the galaxy.
Rules: 1. While some of you may be amazing creatures set in the FTL Universe, you are still organic… organics bleed… organics die. 2. The idea of this RP is teamwork. That means that the RPers HAVE to get along, that doesn’t mean that the characters do. 3. As your evil overlord of this RP, my decision is final. Bad things will happen, don’t wear a red shirt… 4. Use common sense. 5. Lanius and Crystal characters are sadly not playable yet. (Yes, it’s a Lanius ship and we’ll explore that) 6. Your skills chart doesn’t 100% determine what you can and cannot do, it affects how well and quickly you do those things. A bad mechanic can’t fix a hull break with duck-tape.

Character Sheet: Name: Isslissk Race: Slug Sex: Male Age: 28 Backstory: Born into a slug controlled nebula, Isslissk grew up in openly treacherous space. His parents worked as guards for hire in a slug controlled shop. In that shop, all manner of extravagant and exotic goods changed hands. Isslissk, meanwhile, soon became quite the bookslug. He pored over just about any academic book he could grab and understand, though he had a distinct preference for engineering and tech books. By the age of 16, he could strip and reassemble just about any slug ship given enough time and the proper tools.
This aptitude made him both many allies and enemies. Opponents of his allies hated him for being able to sniff out tracking devices, sabotaged systems, and other means to cut corners and make money. His allies paid him handsomely for making sure their goods were always top quality, thus netting more profit. Isslissk took this money and started to save it. Eventually, he gathered a relative fortune to pay for and secure safe passage out of the nebula. Once away from the treachery and purely pleasure driven economy, he took to fixing ships as a relatively anonymous engineer. From hopping system to system, he learned to fix and maintain just about any ship short of piecemeal Pirate ships. He longs to find a crew to stick with and actually do something more than sit in a dock, but most races deny him a position due to his telepathic ability.
Appearance: Isslissk measures in at a surprisingly compact 6 feet long. His physique is muscular, though mostly lacking in tone. His coloration follows a sandy belly and a gradient of forest hued greens along his back and sides. He wears close fitting but simple clothing as well as a harness to hold his tools. Otherwise, he wears items that will assist in his job performance.

Short backstory but it covers the why and where of his ship borne abilities.
Sorry for my unannounced absence, antenna decided to give up on life. Will post CS later today.
Name: Granite
Race: Rockman
Sex: Male
Age: 47
Backstory: Granite enlisted in the Rock military at a young age and for several years served as a marine on a multitude of Rock transports and warships. His career fell apart shortly after the dawn of the Rebellion as pirate and slaver activity increased due to the chaos caused by the war and the Federation’s string of major defeats. The ship he was stationed on was raided and he and his brothers fought like many times before.
Except this time, they were defeated. Their ship was crippled, disarmed and blinded, leaving them unable to even ram the enemy out of spite and Granite and his comrades were captured by Slug slavers, adding to the irrational Rock xenophobia a very rational hatred of the Slug race.
Granite was bought by a band of human raiders operating a rock light cruiser a few months before the final defeat of the Federation because the Slug slaver made the humans think he was a former engineer. Though the humans soon learned they’d been scammed, Slugs aren’t known for a moneyback guarantee on anything. Though he despised every molecule in the bodies of his new “owners”, cooperation was the best way to ensure survival. Eventually, Granite earned the grudging respect of the raiders both as a valuable addition of their boarding party as well as their sentient fire extinguisher.
The raider cruiser ran out of luck when it came across a lone Federation starship in a part of space mostly unoccupied by the rebels. As far as the pirate ship was concerned, granite was the sole survivor, coming out of the ordeal physically damaged, but alive. Although the Federation captain offered him a place among his crew on an important mission, Granite has had enough of starships for a few years to come and asked to be dropped off on the nearest inhabited world, and the request was granted.
Following the defeat of the Federation at the hands of the Rebel Flagship, Granite blamed himself for refusing to join that ill-fated ship and not being there to help them after they had helped him. When he was offered to take part in the Defiance initiative, he joined without hesitation, determined not to repeat his mistake.
Like most Rockmen, granite just about fits the standard doorframe. His rocklike skin shows signs of previous battles and other damage, notably from the destruction of the raider light cruiser.
