You’ve awaken in a small cave, illuminated faintly by strange crystals embedded into the walls and ceiling. You are not alone; among the others in this cave are strange looking creatures. As you try to gain your baring you notice something off about yourself; you are not longer human. Your features are different, you lack the attire you had worn before you blacked out. You don’t quite know what’s going on but you do understand one thing:

You have become a Pokémon.

Welcome to this Pokémon Isekai. I honestly can’t say I’ve really put much thought into this RP but as with all things I tend to do better once the ball gets rolling. So without further adieu let’s cover a few things.

Yes you were indeed human from a world where Pokémon did not physically exist, though your character may choose to know about them in some way via video games or whatever. The concept of an Isekai is also probably not unknown to you, so feel free to use either knowledge as you see fit. That being said,

This world is not 1-to-1 like it is in the games, anime, or the media per say. While it’s very similar to the mystery dungeon series (you play as Pokémon and the society is largely populated by Pokémon) don’t bother trying to correct me if something appears extremely bizarre if not impossible. That doesn’t mean you get to break all the rules established, just that the rules you know may not be the rules in which this world runs upon.

While most Isekai tend to go for darker interpretations of being dropped into a video game world or at least have the droppers use their somehow vast knowledge of science and such to jump start technological revolutions, this one will ideally be somewhat more lighthearted with slightly more cartoony physics, though that doesn’t mean there won’t be some bleak themes and sudden bursts of realism every now and again.

Lastly, and because I know it will eventually come up, death is a thing in this verse. Pokémon, much like regular animals, do prey upon each other and that typically means killing and eating them. I won’t spoil too much but just know if you’re a bug Pokémon walking through a birds nest, don’t be surprised if you don’t just faint.

Now onto the rules.
As always my word is Law. I carry the final say, even if I happen to be wrong. I’m always willing to discuss but if you can’t agree with me than you may wish to find greener pastures.

Respect and have some consideration for your fellow RPers, but of course this is a two-way street. Don’t insult, harass, or otherwise attack or bully someone just because you don’t agree with their behavior. At the same time however do understand that if your playstyle or attitude is causing problems, you’re probably the problem.

Keep me informed if for some reason you can’t post for an extended period of time, more so if you’re involved in a right high pace activity like fighting or collaborating with other PC’s. If needed we will move on without you, with all the consequence that would imply.

IC fighting will be inevitable in a Pokémon world, but as rule 2 states don’t fight OoC. I will have a separate section for how fighting, as well as stats and such, will be handled in a section below.

Obviously no metagaming, and for those who’ll enter this world with some Pokémon knowledge, this is especially important. As I mentioned before how this verse works is not exactly how things are in the games or show, and how they’re different you’ll need to find out IC.

You will all start at the lowest evolution of your given Pokémon line. Obviously no legendaries, and pseudo legendaries will be on a case-by-case basis. That is to say if I feel like I can trust you to play responsible I’ll let you. I’m okay if you want to start as a fossil Pokémon. If your choose of Pokémon has no evolutionary lines, I will allow depending on which you choose. If you want to be say, a ditto, go for it. If you want to be a Kangaskhan you’ll probably be the baby Kangaskhan. If you want to be something like a scyther, huwalucha, or generally any other Pokémon without an evolutionary line that typically looks full grown out of an egg, again these things will be on a case-by-case.

One character per player for now. I may allow additional characters if I feel it won’t disrupt the game too much.

More rules to be added as I see fit, keep abreast in the OoC got whenever I do an update.

Poké Profile

This is your character sheet, albeit in more ways than just one. Keeping somewhat like the games for the sake of simplicity, there are two Poké Profiles I want you to keep up with: You Portfolio and your Adventuring Log. Your Portfolio is your more traditional character sheet with your history, appearance, and so forth. Your Adventuring Log I want you to keep in each of your Ic post. Is much smaller but keeps important information such as your health, inventory, moves, status, and so forth. Examples are below.

Combat and Stats

Pokémon being a series based around monsters fighting, it’s inevitable that you’re going to fight and generally you’ll want to be the very best like no one ever was. And to do my best to alleviate the inevitable conflicts about fighting here’s how things will work.

First I’ll establish that yeah, generally speaking the power and accuracy of certain attacks will be based off the game in that an attack with 100 accuracy will generally always hit unless the target has an evasion boost or the attacker as an accuracy penalty. To that end if between two players I will allow them to determine out of their own will if an attack will hit or miss with factors like buffs/debuffs and their own personal decisions. If you want me to arbitrate a battle I will do so taking into consideration all stays at play, any mitigating circumstances, and possibly a dice roller. But the short of it is, if there isn’t any evasion buffs/accuracy debuffs, an attack with 100 accuracy will always hit. Anything less and the chances of it missing will increase proportionally to the attacks accuracy.

Stats will be based off your Pokémon species as well as your own IC efforts at training. And for those of you who think that you could somehow put out 300% more effort than everyone else and try to train every stat, congratulations you have Flat average stat growth. In this instance trying to do more will simply result in doing less than everything so it all evens up. Being a Jack of Stats isn’t a bad deal but don’t expect to become a master of all. And to that end pick your training carefully as there’s no way to reverse it reallocate your stats after the fact. Additionally don’t expect your growth to be immediately noticeable; spending all night fighting geodudes won’t make you a defense king in one day.

Present and accounted for

I'll start to work on a CS and hope the guild doesn't eat it like the voracious lovecraftian god it is.

How will you be handling pokemon who evolve with stones/by trading?

Well, stones can probably be found as an item, and maybe a specific item for trade-evolving pokemon?
Then again, I'm not the GM, those are just my thoughts.

@Duthguy

Stones obviously need to be found, trade based evolution requires a pilgrimage of sorts. Details depend on what species you are. Friendship based evolutions are dependent on your particular bonds with others, and in this instance some of the more quirky means to evolve for certain Pokémon are actually enforced, like Magnemite needing two more magnemites to evolve into Magneton, and so forth.

Well, it's not as high-quality as some of my others, but I'll put something here.

If you'd like me to redo parts of it because of its poor quality, I'd understand.

Alright, here we go. A little light on the history and stuff but I don't think I need to go too much in depth.

@Rune_Alchemist

Most excellent. Yeah, a short history isn’t too much of an issue, I feel stuff like your backstory and personality gets more fleshed out through IC stuff. Post em into the character log.

@Lugia

Should probs wait for me own IC post first, as I’ll be setting up the exact scene and such if your arrival into the new world.

I think once we get four characters the RP can start. More guys can join in if I feel like it. Six pokeman’s max.

Seviper huh? While not a problem in and of itself, I should let you know that we're not using the Gen 1 version of Wrap. For consistency sake moves will be using the Gen 7 version, which means that pokemon can still act and attack while being Wrapped, though the length of time is fixed to 4-5 turns.

@Lucius Cypher I'm perfectly fine with changing it then. But since we're not running on 100% game logic, may I posit a realism world vs gaming scenario conundrum?

The old D&D style problem where a lower level assassin has an average dagger up to someones throat and ends up succesfully stabbing him through it. Does it do 4-5 damage to this tougher guy. Or did he just get stabbed through the throat?

Like if I used Wrap. I could fully see a scratch, bite and various other attacks being used as a counter. I just don't know how it would "look" if my wrapped opponent did a 'Hi Jump kick'. Like would it roleplay like..."Character used Wrap on Hitmonlee, holding you tight and squuezing you tighty." "Uh. Double kick?" "I for some reason let you loose enough to use that attack and you go back into the Wrap for a few turns."

I guess you mentioned cartoon logic, so maybe somebodies cleverness can play a factor in combat? Because unlike most of the games terrain and various other methods may play a factor. I'll edit the CS, was just curious how that would be handled.

@SleepingSilence

Well using your D&D example, under the perfect circumstances what you’ll be at is a spot to preform a coup de grace. It’ll be much different in a more active combat situation; you may attempt to stab them in the neck in the midst of heavy combat, but at best you’ll do a critical hit, or more likely just wound them. Worse, you might just miss because you were so focused on trying to slice their neck you weren’t prepared for their own ability to escape the situation.

Admittedly in the instance of Pokémon, what sort of attack you do can make things seem a bit weird when you’re wrapped up. But that’s also assuming you’re preforming a full body wrap; or that you have your opponent perfectly constricted. Like the assassin example, this is much harder to pull off against a prepared or at least reactive opponent. Take this image of an arbok using wrap on an Aggron for example. Likely aware of eachothers presence the Arbok May have been fast enough to get a wrap onto Aggron, but it wasn’t as if he was completely paralyzed during the whole duration of the attack; obviously he would be resisting in some fashion as seen in the image. As such, Aggron still has many means to fight back. He could use metal claw to cut into the arbok, his tail is mostly free so he could use tail based attacks like Iron Tail, and it’s possible or that during the struggle the Aggron could strike the arbok with its head. With momentum and/or leverage an Aggron could even just slam the arbok around with attacks like double-edge or Heavy Slam, simply by using its own weight in the enduring struggle.

The idea that you could get a perfect wrap onto your enemy to the point they can’t move their limbs to even struggle against you is like saying you, as an assassin, will stab someone so fast they can’t even try and parry you, At best it at least means that you’re trying to find an opprotunity or opening to effectively attack your enemy. At worse, you’re just hyping yourself up to godmode yourself into an automatic win with the excuse of “I’m fast so you can’t react”.

That’s not also including that while you may be a seviper and thus don’t have an evolutionary growth, you are for all intents and purposes still physically immature for your species, close to a child like size rather than a more conventional adult body. In other words you’re probably not even big enough to wrap around things that aren’t already pretty small right now, like most bug type Pokémon and baby level evolutions. You couldn’t, for example, wrap your whole body around a canine sized creature like an absol in any way that could be considered impending their ability to fight back at your current stage. At best you might be wrapped around their leg or possibly their neck.

@Lucius Cypher Oh I get that and agree. That's why I didn't add the whole "turns" aspect either. Because it would make more sense for more experience for the hold to last longer or shorter depending on the target. Aware realism goes both ways. Just thought it was worth bringing up. Suppose it's a "cross that bridge when we come it issue".

With the CS edited, is the sheet accepted?
