Background:
Samantha lost her mother fairly young and immediately following the funeral, she began developing an introverted personality. When her father took notice of this behavior, he suggested that she try writing letters to her cousin for support. Samantha obeyed the request and kept in constant communication with her cousin, but soon that wasn't enough to keep her away from depression. On her eleventh birthday, Samantha was supposed to begin enrollment at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, her father's decision to relocate to America made this impossible. Samantha obediently followed her father to America and was unable to study at the legendary school.
Studies were still an important part of Samantha's life, though. She read ancient textbooks and practiced magic whenever the opportunity arose. Her father was encouraging, but refused to teach her by himself. He began hiring tutors for Samantha, fellow Witches and Wizards that he knew back in Scotland. Samantha was given the idea to start writing students at Hogwarts when she heard that her cousin was also doing the same thing. The pen pal she got was a ginger-haired young man in Gryffindor. They have been in frequent communication for the past six years, since she was twelve. Samantha considers him to be a friend, but they've never met.
