Maykxor,

The audition is mostly just to judge if you have good spelling, punctuation, and setup. I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi like that. I will waive it for you since you seem to be short on time and the Bio is in reasonably good order. Welcome aboard!

For anyone else who wants to come aboard, I'm going to say the ship will leave port either Wednesday or Thursday!

So, I commented in the interest check a few days ago, but sadly being sick has kept me from showing my face again until now. XD

If no one has dibs, I could make the Magician. Aside from being the Engineer's assistant, what does their job consist of?

Magic and aiding me keep the ship in tip top shape so we all don't die a horrible death.

Sounds more or less like what I expected. Do we have any idea how magic works here? I mean, obviously the specifics haven't been nailed down (Or at least revealed. XD) but has a general guideline, or a comparison to another fiction's magic, been made?

Krayzikk,

Welcome aboard! To answer your question, magicians are your typical Red or White mage. Elemental magic mostly. Historically the kings of Europe used them as another tool to keep the peasants in line and while I was planning to go into it in more detail later, the French Revolution was a response to King Louis overusing his magicians against the people. So there's some historical animosity there to add tension.

Aboard a ship, magicians usually keep the boilers running without coal, using only their magic (Though on a Man o War, there is usually a team of magicians working round the clock).

Feel free to write up a CS and ask any other questions!

That actually answered the vast majority of my questions, which is great because I'd been thinking very hard about exactly what I was going to need to know so I could avoid pestering you with waves upon waves of questions. XD

To clarify a few points, however; On a ship like the Pegasus, would there normally be a small team? Or would there be some kind of system built into the boilers to prevent them from needing constant attention? I ask because it'd probably be hard to keep them going and act as the engineer's assistant if they required constant attention, to say nothing of when the magician had to sleep. XD

I think that's all I have for questions right now, but I'll be sure to PM you if I have any while writing my CS. I should hopefully have it done tomorrow evening at the latest.

Wow, I was worry that my char would have to face the hardships of being the only colored person on the ship, I would have said the only woman but I doubt that Steampunk would have sextist.

What are the odds the crew would accept a former pirate as a doctor? In the event that I were to join this, of course. The liberator kind that took over slave ships and freed the people?

My char was a thief that went to prison, I say that as long as you don't have a high amount of Renown as a pirate, and don't mention your past to anyone till your liked by everyone, you should be fine Ermine.

I'm going to wait for Trinais to post before I do again, both because I don't want to do too many individual posts with how wordy I can be, and because the Captian's reaction will weigh heavily in how the Chief responds.

I don't imagine that steampunk has a whold lot of gender issues... Y'know with it being Victorian Era based, and y'know... Queen Victoria... I'd imagine that skin colour matters less when there are vampires, werewolves, and fairies in the world. Though, based on the Chief's character concept, he's probably holding back out of professionalism, not open mindedness.

Yeah that's why I said, I would've or would have said that about the female gender, there is still racism, but in this case it's probably gonna be like Mass effect's racist system where everyone believes everyone is a stereotypical racist.

Ah ha! It's back. I shall be writing up a character shortly. You seem to have the same idea as me Ermine in the matter of a ex-pirate crew member.

I'm waiting for the poor overwhelmed Captain to acknowledge Richard
Oh and the Victorian Period didn't begin til 1832-37, the Napoleonic war occurred during the Georgian period under King George III and is finished under the Regency period when Prince George of Wales takes over in 1811 due to his father's illness.

It was also near the end of the Industrial Revolution in England
Oh and I must ask; Am I to assume that there will prevail an informality aboard ship which is not as would be expected by the standards of the time period?

I ask this because if it is a less formal social structure then Richard will only be mildly annoyed by comments on his uniform, if it is formal then I must weigh the response to the insult

Under the codes outlined in the "II Duello" or "The Courte of Ciuill Courtesie" if a gentleman is insulted then he is obliged to challenge or his honor is in question then an forever more.

In the 1780s, Research shows that the largest group of later duellists were military officers, followed by the young sons of the metropolitan elite.

Pistols were common but the sword still saw it's use as well

Richard wouldn't demand immediate satisfaction due to the ship's mission but would want it known that on completion that he be given satisfaction or apology

Damn, I just went with my common history, I'm not gonna think too much about the main points in the history.

____

So your saying that if your insulted by your outward appearance, then you'll duel someone

Oh boy... I wasn't intending for Garrett to duel anyone this early on . I guess I should have done more research on the time period...
