Victory: The Cost of Freedom
INTRODUCTION
World War II. Those three words summon up so many different emotions to so many different people and for many of us today it is only something we read about or watch through the magic of Hollywood. There are undoubtably millions of untold stories from that war and we, the writers of today, have often imagined just what those stories might be.
If you chose to embark on this writing journey with me, please know that we are here to remember the men and women who served on all sides of the conflict. Not everyone who followed evil was evil. Some had no choice, some believed in something greater then themselves, some did it for their country, for their King, but all, in the end, did it because they felt they had no other choice.
The stories I hope to see here are those we have drawn from history, those we think might have happened, and those that we believe have, thus far, gone untold. Please DO NOT attempt to write the history of known people. We will use fictional characters to relive historical events, thus ensuring we do not accidentally damage the true legacy of a person who served in the war.
JOINING THE ROLEPLAY
Joining this roleplay is really quite straight forward. Please submit to me your first post as a sample of your writing. Because combat is widely written about already, I am going to ask you to write a piece on a character of your choosing, from any major combatant, choosing to join as a volunteer the day after the declaration of war. You can chose which declaration you wish to write for, be it Britain on Germany, Japan on the United States, Germany on the Soviet Union, etc.
HOW THE ROLEPLAY WILL WORK
This is going to be a slow burn roleplay. I will introduce a battle, or an event, at which time we will all write a 3-5 posts over a period of two months for that battle/event.
Your characters will be created for each storyline; though some may involve older characters depending on which campaign we're involved in.
Rank, age, etc, of your character will be up to you. I don't feel the need to drive plotlines as you can easily research how each battle/event is going to end.
Once the final posts have been made, I will introduce the next battle/event. We will continue in that manner until we are all bored, depressed, or feel we should write a book.
EXPECTATIONS
This is an advanced roleplay. I will not be counting words, or copy pasting your posts into Word to see how many pages you write, but I would hope you can police yourself on length.
Quality is important here. Spelling, grammar, etc, is going to be important. Please feel free to point out my own errors. I am english second language and don't mind the tune up!
Knowledge of the topic is important. If you're writing from the point of view of a Japanese soldier, don't use US Marine Slang. If you're a Russian foot soldier, it is unlikely you can identify types of German aircraft. If you're an infantryman I doubt you could just hop into a tank and drive way, likewise a bomber pilot isn't going to hop into a fighter plane to become an ace.
Ask questions! Research stuff! Make the rest of us want to read your work.
Collaboration is welcome, but, we will still expect three posts from all participants.
Please "like" your fellow roleplayers posts. It lets them know you have read them and enjoyed them. It helps build relationships and a sense of purpose in the roleplay.
