Wait. I mean, sorry, comrades. Yes, it is at max speed. Reason being it's dampener thrusters are keeping its acceleration controlled so the ship can turn-and slow down- as it needs to without it taking years to catch up to the accumulated thrust of the main back thrusters.

I would add something, but there’s nothing I can add to that. It’s pretty much what I was thinking in the first place but far more comprehensive, so I’m afraid I’ll have to concede the point here.

Edit: as an addendum, yeah don’t worry I’m aware that there’s no maximum speed in a vacuum, was just wondering if he ship had stopped firing the thrusters or was keeping on with it. If they’re keepin on keepin on, then you’re fucked.

This RP is teetering on the edge of death. I tried my best and I'm going to keep trying, but if we lose one more person to even the, motherfucking, claws of reality inconviences or lullablye of boredom our crew will be too small to continue forward.

but if that happens I might put Cordial in dormant for a while before I start recruiting a new zelta crew. It's a bit of a blow to have to start all over again so quickly if that happens.

If that happens though I'll link you guys to any other ICs I got going on if you need an RP fix.

Not to be all, motherfucking, black paint and cigar burns on this but we've already lost like 3 guys-more if you include those from the IC- so it seemed all sonic waves to sound off the alert at worst possible out come rather than leaving you guys in the dark about it.

I'll continue on as normal for now though. Next sim coming up.

Also star won this round.

The goal of all the questions is to survive or prevent any danger the scenario presents to you.

Do not use any data you have in your PM for classes as such data may be exclusive to you for a reason.

You are a: Military sent into a derelect gas fracking station on some irrelevant moon.

Down the dark hall you see several dead bodies, their sign of death evidently penetration of the skull, they look like they've been rotting for a few weeks. The fracking pipes are still hot and harvesting. Several large tanks and unknown devices are around you in this tight hallway. You see a vague shape that is definitely not human rear on the corner. You know that if this thing can sprint anything like a human it can up to you before you can get off 2 shots.

Assuming you even hit it a potentially sprinting enemy in the panic. You know if you prepare to shoot as soon as it shows up a clean laster shot will kill most enemies.

What do you do?

If I can see it doesn't look human, I'll keep unloading into it until it either kills me or it stops moving, then I'll give it a few extra for good measure. If I'm trained military, I see no reason to assume I'd be in a panic, but let's roll with it. If the target is vague, what I do also depends on ROE and mission objectives. Cleanup duty? Fire without challenge. SAR? Call out to it, shoot it if it dosn't respond in at least a vaguely human manner. I wouldn't alert other units (if present), as warning them would give that thing plenty of time to scram or attack, neither of which I want.

It's worth remembering that no trooper with an IQ of at least 70 would be alone. Worst case scenario, you'd have your buddy with you, if not your fireteam or entire squad. This is especially true in urban and generally close quarters combat. Cemeteries are full of lone wolves, and having someone with you boosts confidence. I might not be able to hit it, but the others significantly increase the odds of that thing going down.

Regardless of whether I am alone or not, the question mentions a laser shot ((I'm assuming that's what a "laster shot" is supposed to be.)). Lasers are recoilless, making followup shots easier than with projectile weapons, which feels worth noting.

Also, going into a derelict station without image intensifiers or at least a taclight is begging for trouble, and I can't think of a taclight that wouldn't reach as far as a human can sprint in a second or two. Seeing your target is half the fight. As the surrounding machinery is stated to be hot, I wouldn't use thermals, as the hot surroundings are probably going to be hotter than whatever the target is.

Given the scenario as stated, and assuming that I really am on my own here, then I’m honestly probably going to die here. The authority militia don’t have the training that the security corps do and they’re usually much worse supplied, I’m gonna have to rely on my wits and the fact that I’m used to witnessing horrors to get me through this.

I may not know a lot about heavy machinery, but all things hot must at some point be cooled, and the water that cools it is gonna either be under pressure or exist as steam. That stuff’s gotta be piped and stored, and even the authority aren’t quite dumb enough to not label pressurised steam pipes. My first shot is putting a hole in a steam pipe somewhere between me and that thing, so slow it down or block it’s advance, the next shot I’m gonna take the time I’ve bought to aim and go for the head. Or whatever passes for a head.

If I have pals with me, all the better, but with the treatment these soldiers get from the party you can’t guarantee that they’re up to scratch with a modern military - if they were, they’d try to overthrow the government more often - and even so I can’t guarantee they won’t break and run when it charges. Everything I do must be based on the assumption that I can rely only on myself.

Interesting idea, using your surroundings like that. Shooting pressurized pipes or tanks might not be smart in normal circumstances, but if it's do or die I supoose that could work.

Also, upon seeing the word "military", I assumed trained forces (what the 1st OOC post describes as "security guard"), not militia. My head automatically went "military > security guards" and didn't bother to check, so good job spotting/remembering that.

It’s a bit like the Authority in this setting have taken the Imperium of Man and inverted it - instead of using Terminator Space Marines to clear space hulks they send in the Imperial Guard, who are a red army analogue for a reason, and when they’re keeping the peace and protecting the status quo they start deploying super soldiers.

Edit: Aye, I figured that just shooting a random pipe on a fuel refinery platform would get everyone in a ten mile radius incinerated, but even in the modern day you can usually see steam pipes labelled. Breaking the circuit of coolant will be bad in the slightly longer but still immediate run, but if it’s that or receive instant cranial vault penetration, I know what risks I’d rather take.

Bazmund wins this one. His use of enviroment and what he had on him would dramatically increase his survival odds.

Militia are more comparable to canaries. Logistically it's not realistic to send out sec because of the reality of time in space travel, especially since a lot of time nothing happens in space while on stations and planets stuff is happening all the time .It's better to send the trained, normal humans-which we have in abundance- to see if the space hulk if safe or not with their accompanying crew.

Thanks my guy. I figured that if I didn’t have time for two shots my best chance was *making* the time.

Sorry, brother. Should of broadcasted earlier.

I hate to admit it but this RP is dead. It just, motherfucking, had too much flesh fall off as time went on. If you guys are still into it, I can send a flare if I reopen this at a later date. But right now I'm going to chill a little as an RP'er and not a GM before I give cordial another shot.
