Colonel Aditya Sabbadin slid the dataslate softly onto the small, round, table beside him and steepled his fingers as he gazed with hard brown eyes into the crackling fire of his personal quarters; outside the weather raged, the wind howling and the rain pouring down in slanted sheets, drenching whomsoever should find themselves abroad on this cold night. His mind worked over the events of the day, and both eyes and mind went back to the dataslate - blinking upon its luminous face were the exploits of the Tanith First and Only, the so-called 'Gaunt's Ghosts' of yore - thoughts of the now entirely deceased regiment of superlative light infantry only casting doubt into his mind about the future of his own specialists in light and reconnaissance warfare, a regiment he had been gifted command of that very day!
The (Fifty-Second) Uzanian Rifles, a fresh founding on the orders of the Lord-Protector himself, and the cream of Uzania Primes youth and PDF experience ground into a new formation, sat in their barracks and awaited his order to embark into the unknown - they were not, and would never be, the Tanith...but he knew they had the potential to be.
As his chill glass of amasec touched his lips once more he allowed his mind to wander, to think over Uzania Prime itself - a world very like Ancient Terra, before the oceans evaporated, the central and inhabited world of a small sector of several planets - the society inhabiting it being very much what one would expect of a planet classed as 'Civilised' by the powers that be. True, it was more stratified into rurals and urbanites (or farmers and blue bloods if you like) than some planets, but this only made the forming of regiments and their officer cadre easier.
There we those among his regiment from all walks of life - from the rugged highlanders and mountain men and women, to the amphibious experts of the ocean-dwelling nations - Uzania Prime being a planet split into many locations.
They had all come here to the capital city of Ancerora for basic training over a nearly eight month period - something almost unheard of among the ranks of the Guard - specialising in different environments present on the planet, and specifically in irregular warfare.
Yes, tomorrow he would take them into the stars, and from there who knew to what end?
You're fresh, you're (mostly) prepared, you are (mostly) proud men and women of the Uzanian Rifles!
You are a part (the 3rd platoon of the 2nd company) of the fifty-second tithing of a regiment known for their abilities to operate in most climates and weather conditions as light infantry and reconnaissance troops.
Trained to be individualistic and trusting in ones own abilities in the heat of the moment, as well as the soldier beside you, the Uzanians (Oo-zarnians) take to the field clad in standard-issue 'Cadian pattern' uniforms (for now) though patterned in woodland camouflage and armed with a slightly altered pattern of lascarbine, being less of a carbine and more of a longer-ranged and more accurate las-gun packing a somewhat stronger punch than usual.
After thirty-two weeks of basic training, and piles of paperwork for the Administorum, the Fifty-Second is now ready to engage the enemies of the Imperium across the blighted landscape of the divided Milky Way in His glorious name!
Okie dokie, firstly welcome, now I'm going to try and make this as short as I can.
I have no rules (minus the obvious ones commonly used throughout most role-plays) apart from notifying me/a co-GM of either an extended absence or if you intend to leave. This is simply so I can carry on and know who is where and so on and so forth.
Right...
The only other thing is probably initiative, meaning the initiative of players; while not an entirely sandbox experience, I do like players to think for themselves. I shall be guiding things along but 'in the field' so-to-speak I do find it acceptable for players to forge ahead, as long as it doesn't damage the overall plot.
For example, you're in a village and get ambushed โ now I'm happy for their to be as many enemies as you wish to kill, for the players to pretty much defeat the enemy as they see fit, and to ultimately carry the day, so long as they don't carry it beyond that.
If in doubt about what you can and can't get away with, just ask me. It makes things much easier.
On the issue of Character Sheets, I don't want any, however what I will ask is for each player to just post up the basics of their character in the following format;
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Former Profession:
Rank:
Specialisation:
That's all.
Almost everyone will also be starting as a simple soldier, though some may have a little more experience than others. The highest rank is likely to be Sergeant, so if you'd like a higher rank (not that it will make much difference IC), please give me a message.
I believe that's it (for now), so if you do have any questions or queries then feel more than free to ask.
