He carefully begins rubbing her hands, with soft and gentle circles with his thumbs.

Mary lost the fight and faintly smiled.

"There's that smile." His smile seems to deepen as he squeezes her hands.

Mary turned redder. Her eyes met his again. She fought a slight laugh.

He laughs softly. "Can you dance, Mary?"

Mary shook her head no.
"I've never danced before, though I had enjoyed watching others do so."

"Would you like to learn?"

Mary blushed again at the thought.
"I...I suppose."

He leads her down the hall, and pushes open a large set of doors, leading into a large, empty ballroom. It's well kept, but evidently hasn't been used in a long time. He walks her out to the middle of the room, and gently places her left hand on his shoulder, his right hand one her back, and takes her right hand in his left. "Walk in a slow circle. Like this." He begins leading her in the basic dance steps.

Mary took a deep breath, her cheeks a very bright red. She nodded once.
"....ok."
She found herself following along with him, learning the steps. She nearly stumbled a couple times, bumping into him a bit.

He smiles, and steadies her when she stumbles, his cloak flowing around with his moments like a red banner. He doesn't say anything when she bumps into him, though he silently enjoys the brief moments when she's pressed against him. "You're good at this for someone who's never danced like this before."

"I...I did watch others."
Mary looked away and bit her lip.

He nods in understanding. "From the town dances? Were you too shy to join?"

Mary sighed.
"I was never asked."

He looks surprised. "Why not? I'd think the men would fight to dance with such a radiant woman." He watches for her reaction.

"my father for starters, he worked closely with the former mayor."
Mary sighed.
"they also preferred girls who were more confident, and less independent. Not to mention I was not as pretty back then as you think I am now."

He smiles, spinning her in a slow circle. "Bloody fools, the whole lot of them." He grins. "There's an old saying that fits you quite well. 'The flower in the greenhouse is never quite as beautiful as the blooms of the wild'."

Mary blushed again at the compliment.
"...if...if you say so."
She bit her lip.

"You, my dear, are a étoile radieuse." He smiles at Mary.
